Not bad
I was really excited to read this book the minute I saw it. Unfortunately for me, I found it to be a bit slow throughout the first half. I kept reading a chapter or 2 and then putting it down because it wouldn't keep me very interested. I kept pushing myself and finally once I got to part 3 in the book it finally started to pick up.

WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!!!

I'm not really going to give away THAT much right now but I wanted to say that the characters kept talking about how long of a journey it was to go through the desert to get to the ruins and that mostly everyone who goes perishes. Then on their journey the only real danger they encountered was the deadly plant. After that they are magically at the ruins. The journey took only a couple chapters. Meanwhile the journey to get to Solas took about half the book. I felt like it was more difficult for them to get to Solas than it was to get to the ruins even though it was supposed to be the other way around. Not to say that I wanted lengthy chapters of them in a desert but why paint a picture of this supposedly deadly desert when really there's just one deadly plant to avoid?

Anyways, all in all it was a creative book and I will read the next in the series. I think this book was slow because it was the first in the series and the author wanted to really establish the world to the reader. I think the 2nd book will be much more entertaining. This is not a bad book though. Give it a try if it seems interesting to you.

Another WondLa-ful book!
Tony's work continues to inspire and excite. The story is very cinematic. And the ending will leave you begging for the sequel!.

Great Book for Children and Adults Alike
I was on the lookout for a book which we could read together as a family and happened upon "The Search for WondLa" in the store.The summary on the book jacket looked interesting and the illustrations looked like they would grab the kids' attention.I was not disappointed on either of these points.Each day, we would read a chapter or two together and would get more and more wrapped-up in the story to the point that nobody could wait until it was "WandLa" time each day!The ending was emotional and satisfying (even my 9 year-old son was in tears) while making us anxious for the continuation.

In all, the author has done a fantastic job of creating a tale that is simultaneously enjoyable to a 5 year-old, a 9 year-old, and two grown adults.

Magical and Wondrous!
I just finished this book and cannot say enough about it! What a wonderful story! I rarely comment on books that I have read but I think "The Search for WondLa" is something special. I work at a library and can think of a lot of young patrons who will enjoy this imaginative story.

This book didn't take me long to read, but I still felt it took me much longer than it should have. There was SO much description of the world around them that, for me, it really bogged down the story. I recall sitting there reading and realizing I'd just read several pages of nothing much happening other than the characters walking and describing the world around them in tedious detail. My biggest problem with that was that, despite all that detail, the world didn't suck me in. Tony DiTerlizzi is a MASTER Illustrator... one of my favorites... but as a writer? Not as much. ...
