The Good Old Stuff
A rich eastern comes west and learns westerns ways.Max Brand wrote this story a hundred times, but rarely any better than Robert Horton does in FORGOTTEN RANGE.The last 70 pages drag, which is why I didn't go five stars.

Forgotten Master

Robert J Horton is a marvelous writer."Forgotten Range" was first published as "The Forgotten Hills" in Western Story Magazine in 1928 by Street and Smith.This is the 2nd appearance of the full story (the other being a Kindle, and perhaps a British version) and it is a good read.

Roger Hartland is a New York fish out of water.His journey to the Yellow Jacket Mine in Montana to inspect his investment is filled with adventure, romance, and danger.Far from the ivory halls, Roger and Fredericks, discover life in the west.Running a mine, butting heads with the locals, is not what he expected, but westerners are made, not usually born.Roger adapts, and the path to finding out what and who he really wants is exciting.Highly recommended.

As much as I like the photo cover, I think this 80 year old novel would have benefited from an 'old fashioned' painted piece.I think it is fair to give a warning though, while the fiction is good, the style does reflect the time period."Kiss me darling..." almost seems right out of a silent.
