Excellent book but...should be thicker !
The writtings are vivid and excel in their quest for the entertaining, clear picture of each brew analyzed. The pictures are wonderful - great idea showing bottles & custom glasses (filled up to the brim, of course) side by side. However, I wish there would be more than 500 brews in it. I did not think this way before browsing through it but changed my mind afterwards. The simple reason is that a great deal of brews (Harp from Ireland, a few Brazilian beers to name a few) were injustly left out.

The best overview of the worlds great beers.
If you like to Drink or Brew good beer this is a good book to read.It has great pictures and comprehensive descriptions of 500+ of the best beers in the world, and, and the traditional bottles & glass they are served in.I drink&brew and got this to give me inspiration for things to brew.It served that pupose well, and would be a good reference to inpress yer friends at the high end beer garden.

Celebration of the primordial liquid gold
Being one of the world's oldest beverages, beer was known to Egyptians and Mesopotamians, even written about by ancient Sumerians and still enjoyed to this day, the constant way of reinventing and flavor and introducing new brands can be overwhelming but not with this easy to read guide.

Sometimes there's more to beer than meets the eye. Like tea it's more of a simple, easy and relaxing beverage that lacks the arrogance of coffee and hard liquors and the overly sweetness of cocoa and some wines. Even thought I like all the above beer is still an incredible invention, it's perfect for a weekend afternoon or chilled one or two for dinner when I just don't feel like cooking. I really do drink it because it like everything about it, not to get tipsy and forget everything, people tend to look down on it for some reason, but beer deserves some love and appreciation. Apparently one beer a day is good for the circulation, the hard part is having just one!

This book is more of a large pocket manual, but too thick to fit into any pocket, with each beer in alphabetical order taking places on each page, showing beautiful photos of the bottle, the proper glassware for serving and all sorts of flavor and history information. I can count on this to inform, entertain and show me beers that I will probably never tastes or find but at least I know to be on the lookout! I tend to like lighter beers, and the Asian ones always seem to tickle my fancy, currently Tiger beer just has my heart, and its extremely simple and non fussy I even love the name, which represents my favorite animal. Fruit flavored beers are also fun, but when I feel like something sweet. Currently having discovered great strawberry ale I am in search of new and untested brews.

This is a fun, sort of a mini encyclopedia for anyone who's a fan of the beverage and fan of history and the way different countries can interpret hops, malted barley, wheat, corn or even rice into their own distinct beverages. So yeah you have to do a few more crunches but beer is worth it.

Out-of-date and out-of-place
Books that review wine are renewed every year or so. This is because wines change with the vintage and it's not much use knowing what last year's release of a wine tasted like if it's not the vintage on the shelves in your wine shop today.
Beer reviews need to be renewed for reasons. A particular beer is essentially a recipe and therefore it's reproduceable. Last year's Rowhouse Red should taste a lot like this year's. But recipes do change and in fact the formulation of a beer can change from batch to batch. In the case of hops-driven recipes, this is sometimes a simple matter of the changing availablity of ingredients although marketing decisions and shifts in public tasted can play a part.
Just as important is the fact that new beers are constantly being introduced and old ones being phased out.A list of beers from five years ago will have a few extinct labels, a ten-year old list will have a lot.
Beer is also more local than wine: shipping costs ensure that only some beers will travel far from home.So `World Guides' really need to be modified to `local guides' to be really useful.

Is this book out-of-date and out-of-place? Well, a quick check of my local Foodery shows that out of the first fifty beers, nineteen weren't in this book.
Michael Jackson virtually founded beer journalism and his palate was as sharp as his tongue, but this book no longer serves his public.

Looking inside MJ's Mind
I'm not sure what I had hoped to find in this book...maybe I thought it would finally show the world the "essence" of Michael - what made him tick, so to speak. Maybe I hoped for stories about the items, like who made them, or when he obtained them. There have been so many books recently published about Michael that one has to admit he affected THE WORLD in many ways, whether they listened to his music or not. Once and for all, I hoped it would be positive attention for the man that gave us so much.

This picture book opens our eyes to a few of the items the photographer had access to during his initial assignment to photograph the iconic white glove for which Michael Jackson was so well known. During his first visit, Leutwyler saw a "story" aching to be told. Although he waited years to tell that tale, he did a fair job of it in these pages.

Published with no dialogue, save the Epilogue on the last two pages, Leutwyler shows us the detail that went into Michael's costumes and gloves. He shows us a few of the pieces of simple art and magnificent jewelry that Michael owned -- and the care that went into each piece is evident in the crystal clear photographs. Some of the costumes show wear or makeup and that allows us to see Michael as more than a musical genius, more than an icon, more than a humanitarian. Perhaps, he would not personally have chosen these items for this book, but he was willing to part with them at auction someday (which means he was willing to allow us to see them in this state of disrepair at some point).

The child-like quality of some of the items lets us see into Michael's heart and how much he yearned for a more complete childhood than he had...remember, he worked on stage since the age of 5! Looking at his collection of Wizard of Oz characters and his dog-eared copy of Peter Pan, we see the tenderness his heart possessed. Viewing the actual gold pants and the glittered shoes, we are able to remember the moments we first saw him wear them, which takes us back to the days when he could do no wrong.

The throne and crown were definitely befitting a king; there will never be another King of Pop...and really, who could ever overcome this man's giant footprint on our culture? Michael Jackson was one of a kind, as many of the items in this book reveals. He had an eclectic taste that spanned all genres, all cultures, all ages, and strove to sustain them in his home - far from the maddening glare of the world's attention.

When Sneddon destroyed Jackson's blissful peace at Neverland, he took more than a house from Michael; he took a large amount of joy from him that could never be replaced. Joy that Michael had created to restore himself after tours and personal appearances; joy that Michael had provided for countless underprivileged children through visits to Neverland; joy that showed his goodwill to others even when they had not shown him kindness. After Sneddon was finished, the home was only a shell - a place that had been mercilessly ransacked and had issued -- nothing but innocence. That joyful peace was taken from him, as so much else was taken during the years through virulent media presentation. And yet, Michael still believed he could somehow Heal our World up to his last day.

Yes, he was rich; yes, he was famous; yes, he traveled the world freely; yes, he had the adoration of millions of people everywhere. But what made him happy? Perhaps, these trinkets tell a part of that story. After all, who among us does not collect something in our lifetimes? What would our books of prized possessions contain? This book makes you "think".

We can never know what might have been, but we can look back at the things that once gave him a smile. Maybe I did find what I was looking for when I bought this book -- a small peek into Michael's "happiness" wish list. Inanimate objects cannot lie about you or cheat you, and sometimes they can provide great comfort in times of stress...and we know Michael was given a lot of stress during his lifetime! As I looked through this book many times, I found something new with each viewing.

Neverland Lost does not show us ALL that was Michael Jackson, and there are no stories inside...but it shows us something many people forgot in his later years...that this famous, mesmerizing personality was human.

The book is not a portrait of Michael Jackson
I didn't like very detailed photographs of Michael's unwashed and/or damaged clothes. They make the book look like a tabloid and I don't buy tabloids because they invade people's privacy.
I highly recommend books written by Michael ("Moonwalk" and "Dancing the Dream"), as well as Adrian Grant's wonderful "Visual Documentary". These can truly be called "A Portrait of Michael Jackson". I'm looking forward to not yet released "Making of Thriller" as well as a collection ofMichael Jackson's photographs titled "Michael Jackson: Auction" by Arno Bani.

Holding Memories
Some say that inanimate objects have a presence or a sense of being.This photographer has captured a few of Michael's items and presented them on the pages in such a way that we are carried inside the beauty and being of each.A hat, a glove, a toy, each alone on the page.A nametag inside a shirt reminds that this once danced with Michael inside.The beautiful brooch once felt the touch of fingers as it was pinned to a jacket. One shoe's sole experienced so many slides and spins. Viewing these individual objects has allowed me to experience another layer of a precious story. I am thankful that there was a photographer that understood this story, and he could share it.

I am not sure that this book is really worth what is being charged for it.It had some great photos in it though.

Neverland- An Intimate Photo Essay
This is a beautiful picture book of extremely close-up photos of Michael's items- many of them pieces of his clothing.The famous "gold pants" and the gold "onesie" are even included.

I loved looking at the construction of these iconic costumes- makeup stains and all. All I could think of was that these held his wonderful, rhythmic body and I thought of all the performances I watched on YouTube of him performing in them.

It was also very sad to see items wrapped and taped to be removed from the house.Neverland was Michael's dream home.A place where he could have the fun he never got to have as a child.A place where inner city kids and children with terminal illnesses, could have one day of fun- even when he wasn't there.

IMO, it is a shame that the DA, Tom Sneddon, and his seventy some officers desecrated it. I think the term "overkill" could apply here. Their ransacking of Michael's home made it a place to which Michael vowed never to return- and he never did. His dreams had been shattered.

This book allows us to see the magic that was Michael Jackson. He is now finally free of the non-stop media/tabloid bashing. It is a scary world in which a human being could be so methodically and sytematically set upon to be destroyed as Michael Jackson was.I'm surprised he survived as long as he did and that he still ws able to keep his loving and giving heart. A valuable book for MJ fans!
I am very please to have owned this book. It is a very beautiful, informative book with lots of beautiful texts and pictures of Michael printed on quality paper with a nice hardcover. There is a close-up image of Michael's face (in a recent year) which to me is just so dear that just makes me want to love and miss Him even more... I love Michael and I love this book, that all I want to say, to share and let the world knows that We Are Not Alone!

I do believe that I have purchased everything that has been written on Michael, and I must say that I enjoyed this book tremendously: so much so that it is now one of my favorites.It was very well written and the authors were very careful to bring depth to the facts of Michael's life.I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, and honestly it was very difficult to put it down.The first section is about Michael's life, and then the rest of it has some really awesome pictures of Michael.I would highly recommend purchasing this book.I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Michael Jackson-Legend, Hero, Icon: A tribute to the King of Pop
I was totally blown away by this book. This is the book that all Michael Jackson fans should have. And the price. I still cannot believe that it is being sold so cheap! If you are a Michael Jackson fan, this is the tribute book for you. This book is full of beautiful glossy pictures many close-ups and all clear. The author doesn't spend much time on the negative things in Michael's life, so that is one burden you don't have to deal with with this book. What he does give you is a beautiful hardback book that will remind you over and over again why Michael was the best entertainer of all time. The book also comes with a beautiful poster suitable for framing. If you're looking for a tribute book that makes you smile when you think of Michael, this is the one for you!

It's Okay - Beware of Poster

I received this book (twice due to ordering it two times), and I have just glanced through the book, as I am currently reading two other books on Michael Jackson at the same time.

The book looks to me, however, to be just more repetition from what is written in other books, but the pictures are nice and up close and of good quality.

My one BEWARE is that the poster accompanying the book does NOT have Michael Jackson's autograph on it - it's a FAKE.He signs his name differently.Too bad.

This Book is a Wonderful Tribute to Michael
I ordered this book from amazon, after reading the two reviews from the people who highly recommended it. I can't believe I never heard of it before March of 2010, because I searched many many sites since June 25,2009, the day life as I knew it ended forever, looking for tribute books about Michael. It is extremely important to me to own only the finest books, that contain no slander or lies or unflattering photos of Michael, who is a Human Masterpiece to me. This book is a wonderful tribute to Michael and it's obvious the author loves Michael, as Michael followers do. I highly recommend this book. This would be a great book to donate to your local library, for children and adults, as tribute to Michael, where many people would enjoy it as well for many years to come.

nothing new
Small in dimension, nice pictures, but nothing new.Pass this one up unless you want the smallest of books.

Beautiful Book!
This book is amazing......I have a lot of books on Mj and this one I LOVE IT!I love all the photos they so good!As far as the aurthor stating he used cream......well we all know he had a skin disorder and Mj did use cream to try to even out his skin tone and we all know as Mj Fans......He was proud to be a BLACK MAN!!!!!!If you have not gotten this book?Get it before it goes out of print......you will enjoy it so much!If Amazon runs out you can go [...] and order it, as that is where i got mine. But hurry, you don't want to miss out on this great priced book of our beloved "King Of Pop" :)

AMAZING photos, but...
There is NO doubt that the pictures in this book are AMAZING.
However, the introduction contained some misleading information. For example, it stated that he "...used skin bleaching creams"
It has been proven that he really suffered with VITILIGO. He didnt WANT to change his skin color.
If this book had brought awareness to his skin disease, I would have given it 5 stars.

really nice
This book is an excellent photo history of Michael's remarkable career.I wasn't expecting such high quality photos for the price. All the pictures are glossy pages,and span his career from The Jackson 5 days, to the Coranation of the King of Pop,on Motown 25 to the rehearsal pictures of This is It, and every concert tour in between. It also has some pictures of the memorial, and is nicely put together. This is a must have, for all who admired the Man in the Mirror.

I have read all of the books and mags out there- This book was a good tribute to his life-It was more real than the rest. It did not try to make him a saint or a sinner-just a human being, just a man. His talent and his love are truly awsome and he gave all of his heart and soul to making others life better. Arguably the best book one could write about "Thriller"
First of all, although the book is called "The musical life of Michael Jackson", it does not cover Michael Jackson's whole musical career, it's mainly focused on Thriller album. In the very beginning the author explains that the book was conceived even before Michael's death as an extensive look at the best-selling album of all times. After the tragic events a few chapters about This Is It and Michael's last years were added, but the main subject is still Thriller. So it doesn't look like the author disregards Michael's post-Thriller work, it just seems to have been out of the original scope. And I don't have any issues with that. While in my opinion Thriller does not surpass Michael's later albums musically, it's hard to overestimate its cultural phenomenon and significance. The album certainly deserves a whole book to be written about it.

On the other hand, writing a book about Thriller is a tricky task. What can one say about the record that is owned by every 70th person of the world population? Criticizing it against the 110 min sales figures would be ridiculous. Praising it would be boring. Everything that could be said about this album has already been said. Instead the author chooses another approach - probably the only winning one in this situation - he provides a cultural background for Thriller. Instead of decomposing each song and trying to find pieces of genius inside, Nelson George describes the cultural conditions the album was created in. He starts with the training Michael got in Motown school, then proceeds to the years of "The Wiz" and provides a colorful picture of the NYC musical society of the late 70s. You get to know what music was on heavy rotation on the radio stations at that time and what was happening in "Studio 54" club where Michael used to hang out at nights after shooting. Those were the places where he might have drawn ideas for his future Off The Wall album. Then the author discusses the role of Quincy Jones and the LA black musical community. He talks about musicians who contributed particular songs to Thriller, their past and what led them to create the melodies that ended up being on the best-selling album of all times. In the "Beat It" chapter, for example, while talking about the significance of the song for black rock music, Nelson George gives an extensive review of the African-Americans rock scene and answers my long-time question about why hard rock is so unpopular among black population (I'm not American and this situation always puzzled me before). In later chapters he looks back at the coverage of Thriller in the media. And again, not just by providing examples of critical reviews of the album, but also reminiscing about what was occupying the minds of musical critics at the time, what other events were happening in the musical world and how Thriller fitted in that environment. In other words, the book adds the only thing that could possibly be added to the modern discussion of Thriller - the context. That's exactly what I'm always trying to fish out in various old publications and reports. To enjoy Thriller we only need to pop in the CD, but to understand why Thriller caused such a massive and exceptional social reaction, we need to know the context. And Nelson George did an excellent job in providing it.

That said, the book could use some editing - the author did mess up the names of Michael's wives and a few dates here and there, and his notions about Michael's private life are obviously based more on rumors and distorted public opinion than on actual facts. He didn't research this topic well, and I'd rather that he didn't step into the private life territory at all - the book would only gain if it was sticking to music. This is why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5. However, these mistakes and misconceptions are few and far between, and in my opinion some reviewers tend to overemphasize them. Mainly this book is about music. It's interesting, insightful and easy to read. I share the author's hope that it will help future generations discover Michael's art in depth and get a glimpse into the times when a genius was rising and mega-stardom was still possible.

If you are looking for a sound biography about the Thriller years...look elsewhere.
The book is full of personal opinions and lacks interesting or informative content.
Not worth your time.

A quick read, just scratching the surface of Thriller
In this book, Nelson George gives a little insight into black music history of the time...50's, 60's, 70's. He sets the stage well for the entrance of Thriller on the world stage...poised between the analog and digital age.

Mr. George touches on the Jackson5/Jacksons timeframe. He gave a little different point of view about Joseph Jackson's actions which I found to be very reasonable and definitely put it into the historical context of a black man in America at that time.

I did enjoy the song by song descriptions of the Thriller album. It gave more detail on where the inspiration came from for each, who wrote the songs, who played on the songs. It did focus on the creative team that was assembled for this historic endoeavor. I think this could have been taken even further. I did learn a little more about Prince's early career from parts of this book.

There was a reference to keeping the company of boys which I felt was not needed. Although, later in the book when talking about Chuck Berry as an early black rocker, Nelson George referenced the unfair application of the Mann Act that derailed Chuck Berry's career. It seemed to be an attempt put events that happened to Michael Jackson in a racial context which many people believe to have been the reasons for the lynch mob mentality for the last 15 years of Michael's life.

Mr. George obviously had issues with MJ's skin problems. He discusses it in the book but doesn't really talk about the reasons for the skin lightening (ie. vitiligo).

The author does discuss the relationship between Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson. Quincy Jones served as a mentor to Michael. When Michael was ready to update his sound and move on to new things, Nelson George suggests that Michael had reached a point in his life where he wanted to be a mentor. Then, the author goes on to discuss the Dangerous album produced by Teddy Riley. I had often thought this myself as all young people outgrow their mentors and want to move on to a different role for themselves.

Overall, it was a quick read and kept my attention. There were many editing mistakes especially getting the names of Michael's two wives incorrect. I expected the book to be mainly about the Thriller album and it was. The author should have spent more time on this album and not even tried to look at others. It would have been a better book. But, the author clearly admires Michael as a gifted singer, dancer, choreographer, producer, songwriter, and creative genius.

MORE, PLEASE.
I purchased this book on the strength that Nelson George was its author.I've read some of his articles and music writings and even a couple of his fiction novels; though with the novels, I wasn't as impressed.I devoured this little book very quickly which wasn't hard to do at only 216 pages, excluding the index.With Thriller:The Musical Life Of Michael Jackson, while not a bad book, I'd say George leaves a lot to be desired.

Nelson George writes that this is not a biography.It's not.Nor do I think it's about MJ's musical life.In the introduction it is 1971 and George is 14 going to a Jackson 5 concert.He successfully describes the dynamics of MJ as a performer and how watching him gave him hope for his own future.Later, he reflects that writing a quickie book biography on Michael Jackson in 1984 is when his career began to take hold.In Thriller,he does brief you to certain facts about Michael Jackson, his childhood for example, but there is nothing new and if you already know the details, you should be fine with this. George proves that you don't often need many words to make your point and he successfully does this with Joe Jackson, the man that he has the most contact with.He explains Joe Jackson and in my opinion, nails MJ's father with his analysis.There is not a lot of personal judgement going on here, but George does say that he was disturbed by Michael's physical transformations.Still, the purpose of this book is to honor the music.

If you're going to critique Michael Jacksons music, you're taking on a huge committment.I really wanted these songs to be dissected.Since Thriller: The Musical Life of Michael Jackson, really is just about the Thriller album, I don't understand why a more in depth examination wasn't done.If you ask me, these are just notes on the songs, little drops in the bucket, little musings.In other words, tell me something about these songs that I don't already know.Perhaps, I'm being too greedy.Maybe there is nothing more to say about Thriller.Maybe everything has already been said, every quote already been taken.Maybe it would have been better if more information came from Michael himself, (via personal interviews, quotes etc...) than others, (tiresome anecdotes that we've heard over and over) perhaps, that would have given the book more depth.I'm not saying that Nelson George doesn't offer up anything insightful about these songs, he does manage to serve up some information on background players who may have written a particular song.And then, there is his perception of them.There IS other filler in this book.If it were solely about MJ's Thriller, it would be an even thinner volume.

Should you read this book? If you're prepared to accept that the author did the best that he was capable of doing.His work reveals that he held respect for MJ and his musical career.There are a few things that make you go "ahhhh" and "what if?" I just don't think George is the best choice for what this book should have been.Inside, the author states that his book is more of a blend of memoir, cultural history and music criticism.That's what it is, written in that quickie, bio style format.

Interesting but flawed
I had higher expectations for this book. I was hoping for a deeper examination of Michael's musical career. The book, indeed, does focus on the music and the context of Michael within the music world in the 70s, 80s and a bit beyond. It also provides an interesting examination of Michael's race in the context of how he was perceived by the black community. However, the content of the book is rather thin. It almost seems hastily created even though it clearly wasn't something dashed off to cash in on Michael's death. The glaring mistakes such as getting the names of both of Michael's wives wrong (he refers to Michael's brief marriages to "Priscilla Presley and Debbie Rows"), although not central to the purpose of the book, are inexcusable and seem almost deliberate, either as a publicity stunt or as a snub to these women. If not deliberate, how could such a mistake slip through the editorial process? Such things diminish the author's efforts to be taken seriously. That said, the content that is there is well-written and provides some insights I have not seen elsewhere. It is also a very quick read. I just wish it delved deeper into more of Michael's music. ... Good but not great
It's a paperback and by Adrian Grant, so you can trust it will be facts and not fiction. There are quotes by MJ along with lyrics to some of his songs. The photos are nice, but the resolution is not very good and they are images we have all seen before; so nothing unique or original. However, it is WAY better than the hardback book "Michael Jackson Before he was King" that cost 3x as much. The seller, though, did not shrink-wrap the book to stiff cardboard like the "Visual Documentary" paperback by Adrian Grant so it came all bent and crumpled, which really detracts from a "picture" book.

Nice in theory, poor execution
I had high hopes for this book, but I have to admit I was a bit disappointed.

My major complaint, aside from the fact that this is not a very long book, is the major amount of typos. I mean, yes, Michael is beautiful (just as he always is), and the pictures are nice (though not original). The fold out poster is a nice touch. However, there are so many spelling errors in the text of this book that I wondered if this ever passed an editor's desk prior to publication.

bought this for my husbands birthday and he loves the book. We already have some other books from Michael Jackson but this one seems to be the most comprehensive one.

Great info on most beer styles
As a homebrewer, I found this book to be very helpful in creating recipes for various styles of beer. He goes into good detail about them and provides descriptions of a few primary examples of styles. If I have any criticism it would be that I would have done away with the "cooking with beer" articles at the end of the book (you can find better and more comprehensive info elsewhere) and instead added more info about obscure beer styles such as American Stock Ale, Baltic Porter, Kellerbier, Finnish Sahti, Kentucky Common Beer, etc.

Just what America needs: Beer Education
Author Michael Jackson is probably my favorite beer writer and critic. He has traveled all over America and the world, attending events, visiting breweries, and tasting beer. He has extensive knowledge on the subject of beer and he shares that knowledge in this book.

Jackson writes this book in a very simple, easy to understand manner. He doesn't use long words that require the use of a dictionary to understand. He keeps it simple while he educates the reader sbout the subject of beer. He begins by talking about the history of the world's greatest beverage, from the ancient days when beer was discovered all the way to the present day and the resurgence of craft- brewing. He talks about the various ingredients used in beer and explains how best to match beer with food. The bulk of the book covers each individual style of beer, with facts, trivia, and full- color photographs of beer labels, breweries, and other beer- related things.

Speaking of the photography, I found that it really adds to the enjoyment and understanding of the subject matter. It would not be very exciting to read a book about beer that contained nothing but text. The pictures really make a difference with this type of book. They keep the reader entertained and informed about different aspects of beer and the brewing industry.

Overall, this is one of the best books on beer I have ever read. Grab a copy and see for yourself how much there is to know and love about the greatest beverage known to man- beer!

Essential
Michael Jackson has long been considered one of (if not the) world's foremost experts on beer (so much so that those who love beer think of this Michael long before the putative Pop King Michael).And this book only adds to that well-deserved reputation.

Jackson's "Beer Companion" is loaded with color photos of many beer styles, labels, breweries, and watering holes and gives a decent history of the various brewing styles and tastes (very fascinating!).Mr. Jackson provides advice for what beers go with what foods (and it does matter) and suggests some good drinking establishments (and breweries) to visit if you're a world traveler.A good drinking companion indeed.Unfortunately, the book is somewhat large (and annoying to travel with) so you may be better off reading it first, taking some notes, and bringing the (also essential) Pocket Beer Guide with you instead.Enjoy.

Great overview of beer styles
Most of Jackson's other books are organized by region, shopping guidescountry-by-country. What makes this book particular useful is is attentionto various beerstyles, with history anddefinition for each, along withlistings of the classic examples. It's also a gorgeous book, withmouth-watering photos of beer and the geography of beer.

On another note,it's interesting that the only "reviews" that dismiss Jackson asa hack are unsigned. No e-mail addresses, just "a reader". Makesyou wonder, doesn't it?

Not convinced at all
This book was a bit silly and gave no credible proof for its premise.I thought the author's detailed list of MJ's porn collection was unnecessary and pointless. Further, the author seems to resent MJ's affiliation with white folks which I find insulting and a bit racist.MJ himself said he didn't hire color he hired competence. Many of the links are not working, but those that were, are far more interesting than this author's commentary. Save your money and search any documents yourself on goggle, bing, or youtube.

Mesmerizing and well researched !!
I purchased this emovie book and I couldnt stop reading it.Pearljr seems to have done some in depth research.I found the book mesmerizing and shocking.I do believe that something is amiss with Michael's death and I know that if no one else, Pearljr will get to the bottom of it.Pearljr I cant wait for Part II.

Well....
I enjoyed the book mainly due to the flavor the author developed through a down to earth sista girl approach. Overall she used hoax work from you tubers (and I admit that some of the hoax videos are compelling) along with other articles which are on the internet. Several of the links no longer work so I would have preferred that she included the actual articles along with the link. I think she mixed a little gossip and rumors in as well. I don't agree that we should smoke him out if you believe he hoaxed his death. I feel if MJ is still alive he wants PEACE, he gave the world 45 years he deserves PEACE!!!! She drew some common sense conclusions based on the information that she referenced. It was a fun read but I am looking for a book that will give me insight on Michael Jackson the human being and not so much about Michael Jackson the brand. I will give Pearl her props, she did debunk some of the outrageous information that has been laid out for public consumption. Overall I gave her book three stars but I recommend you read it with an open mind and don't be afraid to do your own research. Remember, just because it is in print does not make it factual truth.

Miss Pearl jr's take on the possibilities of what actually happened to MJ, allows the reader to do exactly what she intended-draw your own conclusion(s).Although, it ventures off on to a myriad of yellow brick roads, the reader is left with the distinct feeling that MJ could very well be under the FBI protection, etc.I recommend it.

I'm very impressed with the work that Pearljr has put into this E-book. Not only does she keep it REAL when it comes to some 'taboo' subjects (i.e. the children's ethnicities, Michael's habits and the women in his life), she has adequate proof to back up her statements. Some of the book may be hard for some people to swallow, but if you look at Michael as a human being, her statements and insight really aren't far-fetched at all. Pearl has no reason to slander or disrespect Michael(she's one of his biggest advocates), and contrary to what some believe, she hasn't. Furthermore, I'm a member of the DeathHoax community and I stand by this book. We have been searching for answers ever since 6/25/09 and Pearl has given credit where credit is due. In addition, its her insight and connection to Michael and his family that make many pieces of this puzzle fit, in my eyes.

Whether or not you believe Michael staged his death, or is indeed deceased, we ALL have to admit that there are so MANY things that just don't add up. Pearl does not try to convince anyone that Michael is still alive; she just presents the facts and evidence as it is for people to draw their own conclusions.

this is a great in sight into the life of micheal jackson,it covers the two trial he had to endure,and how he was pursecuted during this time.it covers his sad life until just before he died. a great read

If the Mask Was Removed, It Revealed Nothing
Ian Halperin is a Hollywood gossip blogger who correctly predicted almost to the day that Michael Jackson had six months to live.Gossip and juicy rumors are to be expected in a book written by Halperin but, at least, the author is critical enough in his analysis to dismiss some of the more outrageous claims as lacking credibility although he does seem to accept others that seem equally suspicious.This review is on the audiobook read by Richard Allen.Allen has a wonderful smooth voice that he changes when reading dialogue (feminizing his voice when quoting Jackson).There is a little sarcasm in his voice at times though, especially when he says the often-used term "special friends."Dialogue is a little tedious to listen to as names are giving each time a speaker changes even if it is just to make an insignificant one-word comment (editing the dialogue or paraphrasing it would have been better for the audio version).The audio book is on eight discs in a binder style case.

Halperin claims to have started his Jackson investigation because he was angry at MJ's 2005 acquittal in the child molestation trial.Convinced of his guilt due to the stories he heard from Hollywood gossip mongers, Halperin believed MJ got off like OJ.His intent was to create a documentary to prove MJ's guilt; however, the results of his research brought Halperin to the opposite conclusion.In coming to this conclusion, Halperin rehashes a lot of stories that MJ's fans have probably read before.The Jordan Chandler case is described in great detail. Halperin especially examines the motives of Jordy's father who used sodium amytal on his son to get him to "admit" to MJ's wrong-doings (Disc 2, Track 7).A seemingly endless list of ridiculous accusations made by MJ's servants (i.e. he was too lazy to use the restroom--that is just stupid) are mentioned.Halperin does not believe they hold any credibility though he chooses to site them anyway.The author did speak with a few of MJ's "special friends" (kids who stayed with MJ at Neverland) which gives his book at least some fresh investigative quality.Halperin concludes that it was MJ's insurance company that spearheaded the settlement with the Chandlers.

Television appearances that most MJ fans have already seen many times are discussed including some dialogue of the interview of MJ and wife at the time Lisa Marie Presley with Diane Sawyer and the controversial "Living With Michael Jackson" BBC documentary.This reviewer was intrigued by the connection between the marriage to Presley and the Church of Scientology (Disc 5).The Church, according to the author, has a history of "curing" actors of homosexuality.This revelation opens the door to Halperin's insistence that MJ was gay.He even claims that, when meeting Jackson, the pop star hit on him by staring into his blue eyes (give me a break).He discusses the usual MJ topics like plastic surgery, the unusual situation with his children, and drug use.He offers an easy explanation for the Berlin baby dangling incident--MJ was high.The Arvizo trial is also discussed including the lack of credibility of Gavin Arvizo's mother.Finally, on Disc 8, Halperin talks about what this reviewer was waiting for all along: MJ's failing health near the time of his death.

Some of "Unmasked," though, seems like the author is promoting himself.He discusses his research of the Kurt Cobain death and how Courtney Love's attorney offered him a music contract (he's a saxophone player) to keep quiet.Investigating undercover, he got work as a model (he must be really hot, right?).He was "the only journalist to successfully infiltrate the Church of Scientology" (Disc 5, Track 6).He likes to drop names as well.His friendship with Eva Gardner is significant because it helped in his meeting with MJ, but his story about becoming friends with Liza Minnelli seems unnecessary.She did not reveal any useful information and all it seems to do is show how cool Halperin was smoking a joint with Minnelli and her fellow dancers.Then, of course, his seems eager to mention MJ flirted with him.

The book was obviously rushed to get out as quickly as possible in the wake of Jackson's death.Just as "Unmasked" was at its most interesting with a discussion of Jackson's sickly condition (perhaps it was the medication that allowed him to perform in the rehearsals for his London shows) and the insistence of 50 concerts by his creditors and advisers (even people connected to the nation of Islam) who wanted the money the shows would generate, the book ends.This reviewer believes this audiobook needs a Disc 9 to examine MJ's final day.It was a disappointment. If the mask was removed, it revealed nothing.

I Didn't Get It
At first I thought he was against MJ by the way he was talking about him in the beginning. And I still don't know. It got so boring afterwards, and I stopped reading it. I doubt I will ever pick up that book again. It really didn't talk about what he said it would, and the facts were wrong.

Worth reading, but still doesn't "unmask" Michael
This book was a good read, and well researched. It reveals a bit more than what I knew about Michael Jackson, but mostly sheds light on the many rumors and misconceptions about him (about 1/2 the book covers, and debunks, the child molestation cases). For that, it was worth reading.

However, it really doesn't "unmask" Michael Jackson as much as I'd expected. Most of what I'd hoped it might reveal about Michael he discusses (his emotional turmoil, his health, his time spent with youth, skin bleaching rumors, plastic surgeries, his real financial situation, etc.). But he doesn't make any new convincing conclusions about any of that, or reveal too much about his final years, other than addressing the many rumors surrounding his persona.

I'd hoped it would reveal a bit more about the Michael Jackson behind-the-scenes, instead it mainly serves to exonerates him from being a child molester, using facts about the behind-the-scenes legal investigations. For that it was worth reading, yet the title should probably be something along those lines instead of "Unmasked."

Highly recommended book and seller
This is one of the most awesome books I've read during these 6 months. It really gives an insight into Michael's life and how people can be so despicable, jealous, and greedy as to bringing him down with all sorts of false allegations. Michael is a victim to all these jerks!!! ... Read more

There are pictures in this book of mj that i havent seen and i am a collector!!
If you want close up pictures of mj, then this is the book to have. It will take
a while to get through all of the book in one sitting so pace yourself and enjoy.

Fabulous Pictures, However....
I have recently checked this book out from the public library system again, for the second time.This is an incredible collection of black and white photographs of MJ.Many are unique, even if taken at familiar occassions, award shows, public appearances over the many years of this man's carreer. Mr. Galella's camera found Michael's eyes quite frequently.His camera captured moments of candid history.It is an absolutely beautiful collection of visual stories of Michael's life.The words printed off to the opposite side of the photos allow the reader to focus completely on the picture, then read the words, or vice versa, as the cse may be.

I personally would have purchased this beautiful book except for one glaring problem.Ms. Shields writes a profoundly moving introduction.Mr. Galella takes shocking liberties in his own personal introduction.I was stunned at the tabloid-ish, inaccurate, self-opinionated comments Mr. Galella used to dishonor the life and humanity of Michael Joseph Jackson.It truly is a shame because the words are hurtful, disrespectful and in my opinion, serve a grave discredit to Mr. Jackson. It astounds me that Mr. Galella can profess to so many years of studying this man with his camera, and come to the personal conclusions he did regarding Mr. Jackson's personal life and decisions.I tend to rate a narrative re Michael's life according to the ability of his three children to read the contents and feel pride and honor for their father, not shrink away from the words because of their hurtful, and in this case may I say cruel, personal opinion.

What a huge disappointment to see the incredible beauty in these pages, only to be tarnished by the author's own bias.

AS A PHOTO ALBUM, THIS IS A GREAT BOOK. IT SHOWS THE PHOTOS WITHOUT OR VERY LITTLE COMENTS. AND THE COMENTS COME AT THE END OF THE BOOK CLOSE TO A SMALLER VERSION OF THE PHOTOS. CHRONOLOGICALLY IS A GOOD COLLECTION OF PHOTOS OF MJ. AND, OF COURSE, ONLY FOR HIS FANS AND ADMIRERS.

Man in the Mirror is a wonderful book, I absolutely love that it is done in black and white. Ron has captured Michael Jackson, the boy, the star, the man..I feel Michael was misunderstood most of his life. Ron, as usual has captured Michael in many aspects of his dramatic life. Husband's Happy
Bought this as a Christmas surprise for my husband.Bought the original one for him years ago as he is a serious single malt kind of guy.He loved it but couldn't help himself and loaned it out multiple times to friends.Last time it didn't come back and no one can remember who that last person was!

Back to the book - Roger loves his Scotch and loved this book.He agreed with the reviews and assessments on the various ones he had tasted and used it for guidance on others to search out based on his personal tastes.

Can't go wrong with this as a gift for a Scotch-aholic!

Nice book.
This was a pretty good book.
It goes through many, many varieties of scotch. It is bit overwhelming. However, good introduction to how scotch is made.

Single Malt Bible
This is the newest edition of this book which has been in print since 1989.We have the original as well.The quality of this newest 3/10 edition is as good as the original even though Michael Jackson died in 2008.Great job by the editorial staff.

6th edition for 2010: Definitive Scotch guide
Although Michael Jackson has passed away, the update of the classic guide to single malt Scotches has gone ahead. The 2010 update looks very good and includes most all of the (extensive!) Macallan information from The Definitive Guide to Buying Vintage Macallan (The Macallan Single Highland Malt Scotch Whisky). This is the book to get, even if the reviews themselves sometimes seem less than internally consistent (high praise but lower score, or vice versa). Still, the reviews do carry with them a lot of the character of the Scotches being described. And for the more collector oriented, nowhere else will you get the vintage-by-vintage tastings.

A good attempt at updating the classic
Michael Jackson died in 2008 and his book had not been updated since 2004.The malt whisky industry has changed greatly since then.The goal of these three editors was to update Michael's classic book while trying to do it as he would have himself.

The layout of the book is in alphabetical order by distillery.There is a short half-page introduction to each distillery, a sentence on the distillery's house style, followed by very short reviews and ratings of several whiskies from the distillery.Many reviews also include a picture of the bottle label.The beginning of the book starts with a general introduction to whisky, left mostly untouched from how Michael wrote it.

The goal of the editors was to keep as many of Michael's original reviews as possible, while updating them with reviews of new whiskies and removing outdated whiskies.The introduction says that two-thirds of the reviews are new, but I also found many of Michael's iconic tasting notes still in the book.The authors have intentionally changed very little in The Macallan section due to Michael's special affection for The Macallan, although they have added reviews of the Fine Oak series.

I listened to a recent interview with the editors.When it came to reviewing the whiskies, the editors say that they tried to stay true to Michael's style.This means that the reviews are terse, ratings are rarely above 85, and also that the editors tried to put aside their own opinions of the whiskies and tried to rate them as Michael would have (based on their reading of his past reviews).They spent 18 months updating the book, each working on reviewing separate distilleries without consulting each other on the reviews.

Overall I am satisfied with this book, although I do not own the previous versions.Many recently released modern whiskies are reviewed now, while I was also able to find some reviews that I know to be Michael's originals.

The editors hope to continue to update this classic and release new editions, but there are legal issues regarding Michael Jackson's estate.Therefore future editions of this book are still uncertain.
