4-0 out of 5 stars shirtless force of nature Salman Khan
To tell the truth, I've never cared all that much for Salman Khan, what with the muscles and all the posing and the tabloid stuff. But I'll say this, he's very good in WANTED and convincingly inhabits the part of the unstoppable Radhe. He makes you forget all the baggage. Salman Khan is in his 40s now but give him credit for still being able to pull off the really trying, physical aspects his role calls for. There's a lot of stunts in this one, and the guy does a fair number of them. Not to mention all the exhausting musical numbers.

The plot: As gang wars erupt in Mumbai, one man begins to make his mark. Radhe is a ruthless gangster, a vicious enforcer willing to work for whoever will pay him. He comes across almost as this elemental force, absolutely fearless and willing to tweak the noses of even the most lofty of underworld dons. But Radhe isn't all badass killer. He occasionally does exhibit a softer side, especially whenever the curvy and wholesome Jhanvi (Ayesha Takia) is around, and then he melts in her presence. When Jhanvi is harassed by a shady police inspector, Radhe is inspired to even more extravagant lengths of meanness and brutality.

It's not much of a plot and yet WANTED, with its polished look and breakneck pace, doesn't exactly lack for confidence. It's an unapologetic, freewheeling masala Hindi film. It flirts with a sweet romance, well-choreographed musical numbers, that intense gangster vibe, ridiculously over-the-top action, and some unexpected laughs (but also some lame stabs at humor, thanks to that chubby landlord guy). WANTED goes against convention in that the romance isn't more heavily featured, although we do get exposed to overwrought bits when Ayesha Takia's character struggles to come to terms with her having fallen in love with a murderous thug. Surprisingly, Ayesha and Salman's scenes together provide a good dose of levity.

It's been a while since Salman Khan got a chance to kick asss and take names, and he seems to relish getting back into the mix. The action sequences tend to be more outrageous and stylish than realistic, and there's a lot of wire-fu going on here. But it's fun watching Salman Khan bring the attitude and take goons out with impunity. Note that both the two main bad guys exude an impressive aura of menace, so it's even more gratifying when they get what's coming to them. Salman Khan, he comes on as so indomitable that I might even put money on him if he ever got in a cage match with Krrish. And, for the female audience, what's a Salman Khan flick without his ripping his shirt off? Salman isn't about to pass up a chance to flex his guns.

The film left me with the impression that it had more than the usual number of musical numbers. I was a little surprised to later find out that WANTED only featured six tracks, just about the normal amount in Indian cinema. Maybe it felt like there were more because the songs weren't spaced out evenly enough. Doesn't really matter. Thankfully, most of the musical numbers are dang watchable and catchy, especially the chilled out romantic song "Dil Leke" and the riveting "Jalwa" which features cameos by Anil Kapoor, Govinda, and the film's director Prabhu Deva. The few times I've seen Salman Khan onscreen, I wasn't too impressed with his dancing skills. This is the best I've ever seen him, and to see him bust out the dynamic moves in "Jalwa" (my favorite song here) was a bit of a revelation.

Disc 1 has the feature film and scene and song selections. Disc 2 has these bonus features: 5 minutes of deleted scenes (no sub-titles), including an extended train sequence (which begins with Radhe and Jhanvi exchanging numbers) and also new annoying bits with that fat landlord guy; the music videos "Mitti Ke Sine" and "Ishq Vishq" (which I don't remember being in the movie); the Making Of the music video "Mitti Ke Sine"; remixes of "Love Me, Love Me," "Ishq Vishq," and Jalwa"; and a 20-minute Behind the Scenes look at WANTED, enough of it in English that non-Hindi speaking cats like me can follow along.

5-0 out of 5 stars SK pleases again
A story about a man who kills anyone for money. A man who has no emotions in him.

Story starts with Radhe(Salman khan) who is shown as mafia killer who kills for money. As the story unfolds he becomes more aggressive. He has no feelings for anyone execpt one day his eye falls on a beautiful lady. He saves her twice and the romantic story rushes in. He has some secrets which he cant tell to her. He keeps on killing people. This thing provokes Ghanibhai(Prakash Raj) who does a marvelous job as main villian. He comes to India to find out who has killed his man that runs Mumbai(Bombay) for him. Then comes in a corrupt inspector(cop) Mahesh Manjrekar who does a humorous role throughout the movie. Vinod Khanna who does a role of a Gym owner has a typical role which I can't open here because of plot's secret story. Salman Khan is exceptional throughout the whole movie. After 2007's Partner. Salman gives Huge Blockbuster.

5-0 out of 5 stars Action, comedy, romance, musical.. excellent Bollywood hit is a keeper!
"Wanted" emerged as one of the top Blockblusters of Bollywood in 2009. It is filled with wall to wall action, song and dance, comedy and romance.Bollywood superstar Salman Khan(son of superstar sceenwriter Salim Khan), after years of mediocre movies, returns with a hit this time.He is badas* in this flick as a goon available for hire. The mafia wants him to do their dirty jobs, he falls for a sweet girl, and he has to deal with corrupt cops as well as gansters. The movie, like most Indian movies, is over 2 and a half hours long. But I was never bored.Towards the last hour, things starts to get exciting. I won't spoil the surprises. But I totally enjoyed this movie, even going back to watch parts of it.

This movie is the Hindi remake of the Tamil movie of the excellent blockbuster Telugu movie "Pokiri"-written and directed by the talented Puri Jagannadh.Prabhu Deva is a famed dancer/choreographer turned director who directed the Tamil remake("Pokkiri") as well as the Hindi(Bollywood) version. He makes an appearance as a dancer in the song "Jalwa", he's the last guy who appears and dances real good next to Salman.

I dug up the original "Pokiri" and it is nearly identical to the remakes, scene by scene, line by line. They are smart not to mess up a good thing."Wanted"(also known as "Wanted Dead And Alive")is a little more glossy but the other two are quite polished as well. The major difference is.. Salman gives a superb performance, and takes off his shirt at the end.

Fun and exciting, I highly recommend this DVD. ... Read more

This is compared to 'While you were sleeping'. It isn't a complete match but the overall drift is the same. A girl is rescued from a car accident and ends up in a coma. The rescuer pretends to the family to be her husband and comes to be accepted by them. He falls mutually in love with her best friend/almost sister. What happens when the rescued girl wakes?
If you like Bollywood romance musicals you'll probably find this acceptable and average. Preity Zinta and Rani Mukerjee are watchable as usual.
Salman was mostly fine. However I did cringe at a Michael Jackson -like high pitched shriek he did at times which was sounded oddly girlie coming from behind the crafted muscular 'alpha male' appearance he was also going for.
There are a few catchy songs that I bothered to download and a few reasonable group dance sequences.
There is also 2 brief cameos from Shahrukh Khan that have nods to other movies of similar theme points from his other movies.
There was also a little 'comedy' here and there in short bursts that didn't fit the general feel of the movie and sat uncomfortably with it from my point of view - though the Indians do see to like this sort of over-the top interlude (usually around deceit and scams).
Elsewhere on the Net it seems to mostly rate around average (5 out of 10)
So this was fine and I'll hang onto it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Bollywood 'While You Were Sleeping'
I bought this movie because I love Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta. My two favorite Bollywood actresses.

I'm not really a fan of Salman Khan, and this movie didn't really help. The character was supposed to be a fun happy go lucky guy who just wants to be a star, but he came off as manipulative and annoying. He would lie, cheat, and steal to get to fame, and that's exactly what he did. But he did it in such a way where the audience was supposed to be on his side, when really I just couldn't stand it.

Overall the movie wasn't that bad, but because I couldn't stand Salman Khan's character and couldn't understand how the other characters could come to love him, it lowered my rating to three stars.

Aside from loving Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta in this movie, I also loved the two random appearances by Shahrukh Khan (complete with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai references).

And the 'Piya Piya' number is stuck in my head. I loved that song and dance number.

3-0 out of 5 stars "While You Were Sleeping" -- The Hindi Version
OK I haven't actually seen this film yet, and will do a real review after I do.But from the synopsis, this film is apparently a complete plot remake of "While You Were Sleeping," a fabulous romantic comedy with Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman. It's going to be tough to beat the original.Salman Khan's not my favorite actor but I like Rani Mukherjee and Preity Zinta so I'm giving this 3 stars on approval.:)

Here's my question:did the producer clear the rights with the copyright holder of "While You Were Sleeping"? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Two thumbs up for Salaam - e - ishq
This is a very enjoyable and well made film.A really great cast and several different storylines make the 3 + hours go by quickly. The music is wonderful, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must See
Smart, funny, and expertly crafted, this modern masala weaves together six love stories. Each is stylistically distinct and focuses on a different challenge that couples face. The happily married Ashutosh (played by John Abraham) and Tehzeeb (Vidya Balan) overcome family disapproval because of their religious differences but then face an even greater test when tragedy befalls them. Middle-age couple Vinay (Anil Kapoor) and Seema (Juhi Chawla) grapple with boredom and infidelity. Shiven (Akshaye Khanna) gets cold feet before his wedding to Gia (Ayesha Takia). Taxi driver Raju (Govinda) falls in love with an American woman (Shannon Esra) while helping her find the Indian lover who dumped her. Newlyweds Ram (Sohail Khan) and Phoolwati (Isha Koppikar) have a hilariously difficult time trying to consummate their marriage. Each story in this grand multistarrer delivers, but the best one is that of B-list starlet Kamini (Priyanka Chopra) and mystery-man Rahul (Salman Khan), who stage a fake romance as a publicity stunt and find true love in the process. - The Bollywood Ticket: The American guide to Indian movies (http://www.thebollywoodticket.com) Subscribe: The Bollywood Ticket

4-0 out of 5 stars Muy entretenida!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Bollywood Hit that Delivers
To be fair, this is the second Bollywood movie I've ever watched and one that I only bought because of one dance scene. I'm a big fan of Aishwarya Rai who stars as Nandiri, daughter of a well-respected singer. An Italian named Sameer comes to intern with him and falls heads over heels in love with Nandiri.

The dances scenes are reminiscent of Busby Berkley, with overhead shots, lots of color (not applicable to Berkeley, seeing as in his times, it was all in black and white) and great choreography. It's worth buying just for the dancing.

If you like a lot of soap opera-type drama (beautiful heroine, dashing leading man, lovers' plight in a tradition-laden world, complete with a bitter and evil auntie), this is a very entertaining option. Plus it comes with subtitles in five different languages, including Spanish and Japanese!

4-0 out of 5 stars Keeps you guessing till the end
I support the comments of other reviewers. It isnt 'the best romance ever' for me but it was very satisfying.
What was really good is that you werent really sure which guy she was going to end up with (even if you had your suspicions). They took great pains to keep the balance up with 2 good men. Often in a love triangle movie you get a lot of information about why one really doesnt deserve to have her - or will be headed towards another love possibility. This time they didnt do that and it maintained the poignancy of the choice (which was a lot more real too).
Salman Khan was very good at the beginning but didnt bring the angush moments off quite as well. When you have seen the expansive surrendering to emotion that someone like SRK can play (albeit over the top at times) he does look a bit constricted in opening this up. Overall very good though.
Ajay Devgan does an excellent job with his conflicted honest and loving character and brought solidity to the movie.
Ashwariya's character was highly irritating in its histrionic, immature, princess characteristics in the beginning and I thought her husband deserved better! With Salmon's character being moody, stubborn and sulky at times then too they seemed well-matched! Fortunately this turned (though later than I would have liked).
It is a satsisfying well shot movie with some good music so definitely one to recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars An amazing, excellent film-highly recommended
This and Kuch Naa Kaho are my two absolute favorite Bollywood films.
This one just surpasses all for the music, costumes, singing, dancing, length of film you get for your dollar, acting, you name it.

Aishwarya Rai, Ajay Devgan, and Salman Khan give most excellent performances and all look picture perfect throughout the film. The scenery is amazing. This film is what I consider "monumental" as one can see the amount of time, effort that went into making this film.

Love, love and more love...the romance is intriguing-made me want to marry Ajay on the spot, but preferred Salman's light-hearted character a bit more.

I'm more than a little tired of the whole father picking the husband for the daughter routine-wish India would catch up with the western world in that respect, but glad to see it turned out all right in this film.

Highly recommended-buy the soundtrack too and blast it while driving around town. I can't tell you the bizaare looks I get when I get to a stop light and folks hear Hindi music!! Make your neighborhood culturally aware :)

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Movie
Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam holds the viewer from beginning to end. The sets, scenery, acting and sound track are all great. There is a very traditional extended family and Salman Khan comes to learn singing from the head of the household. During the time he is learning to sing, he falls in love with Aishwarya Rai. Love before marriage is frowned upon in most traditional Indian families. I would say Aishwarya Rai's acting is the best in the movie, she conveys her emotions - whether it is happiness or sadness, perfectly.Ajay Devgan is good, the actors who play Aishwarya Rai's parents are really good. I don't like Salman Khan in general but he is likable in this film.

The only thing about this movie as with most Indian movies is there are some unanswered questions. Such as, if Salman Khan is coming from Italy to study in India, why is he walking across the desert? Why is Salman Khan telling his Mom jokes in the cemetery?

However, compared to most Indian movies, the number of unanswered questions is definitely minimal. I would highly recommend this movie for anyone in the family.

4-0 out of 5 stars Romantic Masala!
This is yet another love-triangle but made very aesthetically. This is perhaps the only Aishwarya movie I've watched repeatedly...because I've enjoyed her "chemistry" with Salman. She can dance well yes, but act...I still doubt it. She sure looks like a doll on screen but truly does not make my heart beat or head turn...she's meant to model.
Salman's funny, as always...but what makes this movie very special & warm is Ajay's character. I wanted to hold him in my arms and cry...I wanted to give him my shoulder to cry on...he's an ordinary looker but extraordinary performer!
The songs are simply mind-blowing because of Kavita Krishnamurthy's outstanding singing...after Lataji & Ashaji, she's the next legend! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining
This is an entertaining movie. You should not search for reality. VERY Nice songs. New comedian did excellent- who pretended to be a lame to see Sushmita. If you like hindi movie, you can own it. Story line is not too bad: susmita is Salman's (doctor) receiptionist/nurse? Salman's girlfrind is Katrina. Salman uses susmita to cover up the story he made up once to katrina. Susmita then falls in love with salman. Salmans real brother loves katrina, who shows it sometimes. At last susmita becomes salmans girl, AFTER katrina (at the very end of the movie) start saying (in the middle of their wedding) that susmita loves salman too much- so he should go back to him. When katrina says- susmita loves you - please go to ger - salman leaves the church immediately & searches for susmita!!!!(where they were getting married - though they are Hindu- because salman's mom was crying to an Idol). That seemed funny, because in the whole movie - salman didnt have any interest for susmita.Salman's mom's funny attitude was not too bad. Susmita's repeated broken dreams were the only realistic thing in the whole movie. Susmita looked absolutely fabulous, Salman too. I am not Katrina fan - so her innocent - cute baby type talking irritated me. ... Read more

Product Description
They were childhood friends. But they had little in common except their family's vague connection with music. While Arjun's life was consumed by a passionate drive to get on stage and realize his grandfather's unfulfilled dream, Mannu had little interest in his music tutor father's instruments and was content with remaining a child at heart with no higher ambition than enjoying the good things in life. But little did they expect music to strengthen their friendship and then test it with catastrophic results...Arjun diligently pursued his dream, at the risk of running away from an uncle who was his only family in an unfamiliar land and roaming the streets of London before taking shelter in a music shop and priming himself until he's ready to make his foray into the world of music and showmanship. As Arjun forges a band with Zoheb and Wasim, two brothers who'd duped their relatives in Pakistan to travel to London in pursuit of their musical aspirations, and Priya, a music enthusiast from a conservative South Indian family, far away in Punjab, music becomes a survival tool for Mannu, who takes to playing in wedding bands in his village. But when he gets Mannu to London and makes him a part of the band, Arjun soon realizes he's created the biggest threat and obstacle to his own ambitions. For, Mannu, with his inherent musical gift and irreverent style of performing, becomes an instant darling of the crowds. What has taken Arjun years to achieve, Mannu does overnight. It causes Arjun to feel betrayed by the God to whom he'd surrendered everything in return for eminence in music. Arjun's unbearable pangs of jealously and insecurity only worsen when Mannu also unwittingly woos and wins his secret love, Priya. 3-0 out of 5 stars Worth Watching
Rock bands in the West--and movies about them--are expected to embrace certain clichés: misunderstood artists, rifts over professional jealousy and women, self-destructive behavior, and Lenny Kravitz-style attire. On-stage squabbles (think Oasis), while rare, are greatly appreciated. 'London Dreams' takes the rock-band formula and runs with it.

No one does dark and troubled better than Ajay Devgan, whose character, Arjun, the leader of the band, channels his torment into self-denial (and bizarre self-flagellation), leaving the requisite sex and drugs to his best friend and bandmate, Mannu, played by Salman Khan, who steals the show, just as his character does in the story.

Arjun and Mannu are childhood pals from a village in India, and they share a love of music. Arjun goes to London to become a rock star while Mannu stays behind and ekes out a living performing at weddings. (Actor Akshay Kumar--known for playing tough, rural simpletons--had better look out because Khan's macho bumpkin has much more intriguing depth than Kumar's two-dimensional characters.) Arjun forms a band with Zoheb and Wasim (Rannvijay Singh and Aditya Roy Kapoor), two brothers from Pakistan, and Priya (Asin), a girl from an ultra-conservative south Indian family. Arjun never wavers from his focus on his career by acting on his secret desire for Priya.

Eventually, Mannu joins the band as well. He's a fun-loving, sweet-talking musical genius who upstages the less-talented but obsessively driven Arjun and wins Priya's heart. Insanely jealous, Arjun retaliates during the band's European tour by luring Mannu into drug addiction and promiscuous sex. Mannu happily engaged in the latter but not the former back in India, and because of his pleasure-seeking nature, he takes to cocaine like a feline to catnip. Arjun thereby destroys Mannu's budding romance with Priya but also sabotages the entire band's future and Arjun's own goal of stardom.

The soundtrack is average, but so is most Western pop music these days, and since world music is always hip, it's believable enough that a mediocre Hindi band could fill London's Wembley Stadium--and then, like all good rockers, screw up their success.

3-0 out of 5 stars Traditional Rock Musical
[Review based upon Theatre viewing].

Although the players are from India, and the music is based on Indian themes, the story is all-American, a mix of Jailhouse Rock and Rocky I.
Interesting, that Western Rock (Beatles, Mahavishnu Orchestra, etc.) borrowed heavily from the East, with this entertaining movie, it's the other way around. Michael Jackson is the impetus for the star, who sets his sights upon the Wembley Arena; he dreams of the big time, at one of the biggest internationalk arenas.
Unfortunately, his "studied", precise approach, will physically deliver him to London, but his best friend from back home, will really send the crowd - he's invited the join the group, in a way to just add support - not to take over!
Rock and Roll movies are usually a little light on plot, and the idea that a great act can be booked to headline at Wembley after about four gigs is a little far-fetched. But the colorful, cross-continent background, and the strong acting, hold interest, not to exclude some very powerful production numbers. ... Read more

Salman Khan sweetly plays the smitten lover of the ever charming Kajol, but the couple must hide their love from the girl's overprotective brother. Typical of Bollywood masala, it has a little of everything for everybody - romance, comedy, singing, dancing, and of course the usual Indian fight scene (more comic than graphic in my opinion) to unite the good guys against the bad guys and establish the hero's victory. It is definitely suitable for the entire family, and everyone who watches will surely find something to laugh about. My mom, my sister and I all smiled, laughed and giggled throughout the film.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hylarious
This movie is romantic and yet it's really funny. My family and I couldn't stop laughing. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Big Budget action romance Bollywood musical .
After "Wanted", Salman is hot as ever.Eros, the DVD distributor, bankrolled this mega budget period action movie. This is Salman's dream project for 20 years. And he wrote it himself. The story is inspired by an old Russian novel.

Imagine "300" meet "Troy" meet "Gladiator" meet "Howard's End" meet Bollywood musical.

It's all here. The action is sometime bloody violent, sometimes over the top, sometimes unintentionally funny - I mean Salman can ALMOST FLY!!!like Hrithik in Krrish or Dhoom2.They have these big budget action scene with hundreds of actors and horses and train and Salman flying on wires!! doing somersauts (like the opening Scene in Dhoom2).While it was cool with Hrithik, here with Salman it is just funny!

Don't get me wrong, I gave "Wanted" 5 stars on Amazon and Salman was GREAT in that movie. Here, he seems to be the big super duper star on this movie.Director Anil Sharma has not had a hit in many many years and probably no A-list Bollywood director or A-list actress wanted to tackle this superstar ego project.

The movie is not all bad.It is Lavishly produced.Die hard Salman fans will like it no matter what.

But sometimes the movie is illy. In the movie Salman is a super killer, great horseman, barbaric tribesman, then he wears a Tuxedo!! and sings and dance and I think plays the piano too!

He goes to England and says oh England is no good blah blah,India has Taj Mahal etc. The blood on his arm in the movie and also on the DVD box looks so fake.

The lead actress looks like she's Katrina Kaif's less pretty sister. This movie is interesting as Camp.Too bad they spent a lot of money on this one.Worth a rental or if you're a die hard Salman fan, maybe a purchase. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Average romance/melodrama with Salman Khan delivering one of his better performances
This is about a husband (Salman Khan) very much in love with his doctor wife (Preity Zinta). She dies requesting her heart go to a patient she knows ( Bhoomika Chawla). The husband opposes this decision and doesn't know who the recipient is. However the girl comes into his life and there is mutual attraction. He resists this. Is the wife pretty much channeling through this heart conveying her wishes? Who is he drawn to - his dead wife or the girl? Will his resistance be too much for the heart of the girl to take?

I found this movie average overall. However Salman Khan was particularly good at conveying subtlety and grief, and it is one of his best performances. In fact he more convincingly conveyed grief than Preity conveyed wasting away (though Preity is always solid and generally is here too). For me (and many others I see) the patient with the heart, while attractive enough, lacks substance and Salman's connection with her seems distant. In fact he showed more spark with a short chat with her best friend. There is also a short divergence into unnecessary comedy with an over-effeminate stereotyped gay boy, which should have been jettisoned.

There is good evidence that in cases of heart transplant the recipient does seem to develop tastes the donor had so the premise is an interesting one. I felt uneasy with the ending of this though. Was he really in love with the girl legitimately or was he trying to continue a shrine to his dead wife through the body of another. Getting them together seemed sudden and forced.

If there is a reason to recommend this is Salman's performance (and if you are a fan of Preity she's mostly fine too). The movie itself though is pretty average but OK enough. Elsewhere on the Net it rates about an average (though some put it down at a 3 out of 10 and a few up at an 8 out of 10). Comments on Salman's better performance and the recipient's bland one are common.

3-0 out of 5 stars If not for Preity Zinta..
I would give this 5 out of 5 if Preity Zinta was the one playing the caracter who got the hearttransplant. Bhumika Chawla is annoying in her role as i think she is in all her filmcaracters. I don't know what, but there's something about her that doesn't convince me. I give Salman Khan 6 out of 5 (haha) as I would watch a movie with him playing a mute caracter.. and Preity Zinta is allways a joy to watch no matter what movie or genre. ... Read more
