A native of Kentucky , he was the grandson of Daniel Boone , and lived much of his life in Missouri . After immigrating to the Oregon Country , he established Boones Ferry across the Willamette River south of Portland near the present city of Wilsonville . Early life Alphonso Boone was born on November 7, 1796, in Mason County, Kentucky , to Jesse Bryan Boone and Chloe Van Bibber. The grandson of frontiersman Daniel Boone, he moved to Missouri where he lived in the mid-1820s in Montgomery County . Oregon In 1846, Boone packed up his family and started west along the Oregon Trail himself, eventually taking the Southern Route to the Willamette Valley . He started the journey with his brother-in-law Lilburn Boggs , former Missouri governor, but parted ways when Boggs headed for California. After reaching the valley, he took up a land claim along the Willamette River on the south bank between Oregon City and Champoeg . Product Description
Turkey hunting superstars Mark Drury and Brad Harris share their unparalleled experience and expertise on calling and hunting America's No. 1 game bird. Written by Jim Casada, editor at large for Turkey & Turkey Hunting magazine, and edited by Brian Lovett, editor of T&TH, this book condenses years of wisdom into a revealing, insightful guide.

Drury and Harris, nationally renowned champion callers who hunt and film turkeys throughout the country every spring, instruct hunters how to locate, roost and set up on turkeys. They reveal calling tactics that whip gobblers into a frenzy, and detail decoy secrets that will lure the toughest longbeards. Also, Drury and Harris tell hunters when to move, when to sit tight and what to do when birds just won't respond. More importantly, they provide advanced shooting instructions so hunters will never miss another gobbler. Even experienced hunters will improve their spring success by following Drury and Harris' advice.

1-0 out of 5 stars BigDisappointment
I purchased this book because I was familiar with the authors writing in magazines, which has been excellent, and hoped I could learn something. I was wrong! Casada missed the mark on this one. There is no useful info here. I need not go into details. To see why, just read the two other unfavorable reviews. Save your time andmoney. Purchase any other book if you are looking for info and advice on hunting turkeys. For recommendations see my twoother reviews. One I highly recommend is written by Brian Lovett who edited this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lacks useful information
This is one of the most disappointing books on turkey hunting that I own and I own quite a few. The author spends a great deal of time writing about Brad Harris and Mark Drury's hunting experiences but without conveying any significant amount of useful information. There is too much narrative and not enough wisdom. I would also steer clear of Turkey Huntings (sic) Finer Points by Daniel A. Dia Paul. I would recommend the following books which I have read: Hunting Pressured Turkeys by Brian Lovett; Practical Turkey Hunting Strategies by Ray Eye; Advanced Turkey Hunting by Michael Hanback; Successful Turkey Hunting by M.D. Johnson; In the Turkey Woods by Jerome B. Robinson; The Complete Book of Wild Turkey Hunting by John Trout, Jr.; and, Turkey Hunting Tactics of the Pros by Richard Coombs. For Pennsylvania hunters, I highly recommend A Guide to Hunting Pennsylvania Turkeys by Tom Fegely.

2-0 out of 5 stars Waste of Money
This book was a severe disappointment.I expected the book to actually explain some of the tactics mentioned in the book. But, sadly it doesn't.There are 200 pages in the book and the first 40 are devoted to explaining how the author, and the two hunting experts got into turkey hunting. While their tales are touching, they don't reveal anything on how to hunt turkeys.

There is a chapter devoted to each aspect of turkey hunting, calls, clothing, equipment, scouting, working a bird, etc. However, the discussion in each chapter is disappointingly unrevealing. In some cases, the author actually recommends going out and reading books about turkey hunting to get a better understanding of the topic! In other cases the information is just so non-specific that it isn't helpful. For instance, the author will say that being a good caller is very important, but he does not provide guidance on getting better. There were no tips on "learn this call first" or "this is one of the most common turkey sounds."I know that teaching calling in a book is very difficult, but this was the type of information given on most of the topics.

There is some good information in this book, but I think if all the non-helpful stuff were taken out of the book it would probably be about 20 pages long. There are much better books out there on turky hunting that are similarly priced.

5-0 out of 5 stars advanced turkey hunters

5-0 out of 5 stars Best kitchen collectibles book I have found
Another five-star rating! This book is beautiful and a joy to browse through. But it is much more than eye-candy.It has specific, detailed information about items, and I find it particularly helpful because it includes the names of manufacturers and product lines.(Believe it or not, I've actually found collectibles books that just show a photo with a generic description like "canister set."That's not sufficient information for a beginning or serious collector.)This book, however, fits the bill in every way -- specific information, gorgeous photography, interesting writing, and a thoroughly enjoyable walk down memory lane.If you are interested in kitchen collectibles, and particularly those of the 30s, 40s and 50s, then this book is a must-have.You'll be so glad you bought it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Fabulous
I love this book, I have a tendency to collect kitchen gadgets, not on purpose, but just can't help it.This book helped me identify a few things I have that I didn't know what they were for.The only thing that isn't true (in my part of the country) are the prices for most of the items. But, prices are pretty fickle and right now nothing seems to be worth what it once was!

5-0 out of 5 stars Spiffy Kitchen Collectables.
For those of you who were born in the '30's or '40's, this book will bring back memories of the items in your Mom's or Grandma's kitchen. Perhaps the items will remind you of a favorite recipe of those long ago times.

5-0 out of 5 stars My ma had one of those
What a delightful slice of Americana.I'm interested in mid-century America especially suburban living and this book captures a little bit of this so well.Look through the pages and it's clear that the author (and publisher) have taken some editorial effort to produce an interesting book.I was particularly pleased to see that this is not the usual dull looking, badly designed collectors book, full of amateur snaps of objects sitting on a table with several presented on the page as square photos.

The thirty-eight chapters probably include every popular kitchen gadget available at the time (all nicely presented as cutouts though missing light grey shadow effect that really would have completed each image) but nicely there are included period magazine covers, ads, pages from manufactures brochures and other graphics.Another thing I liked about the book is the addition of the packaging the utensils came in showing the design and typography, predictably lacking in any graphic design but showing vibrant colors and in fact anything to catch the housewife's eye while on the store shelf.

An ideal book for collectors and because of the way it has been editorially produced it will have instant nostalgia appeal andinterest anyone who wants to know how folks lived a few decades ago.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun Book to Have!!
I enjoyed this book. If you are new to coin collecting I would say....get it! I purchased a few copies as Christmas gifts. If you have pocket change you may as well take a peak at it before you spend it. I'm not a committed coin collector but it's fun to look over the small amount of weekly change we have prior to spending it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book for the beginner
I would say this book is very good especially for a novice collector. Bear in mind though, these errors the author discusses are very rare and the possibility of someone actually finding something is low. However it is fun to look through your change. You will need a very good(powerful) magnifier to see the errors that are discussed.

I have two complaints, one is the grammatical errors and the other is that they tell you to look at the colors on several pics but all are in black and white. Kinda pointless.

Overall good book. Don't nix because of these issues I found with it.

4-0 out of 5 stars guide to spotting flaws in coins worth money to collectors
Not all coins with irregularities have the high auction or sales values into the tens of thousands of dollars you hear about from newspapers, TV spots, or trade media. Some errors from minting coins are worth only a few dollars up to twenty or so. This is nonetheless obviously a large multiple of the face value of the coins, enough to make this field of interest to many.

Allen and Potter's book can be used in two ways. With its many magnified photographs of errors in specific coins, it can be used as a reference for identifying and confirming errors; and in relation to this, a pricing guide for such an errors.

Many errors, however, are minute or can to the untrained eye appear a natural part of the striking of an individual coin. Beginners or less experienced persons might not pick up such errors. For these, the many different types of errors covered with descriptions and close-ups serve as a survey of errors. By reviewing these, one learns about kinds of errors which can have value to collectors.

Since coins are being designed and struck all the time and there are countless numbers continually being circulated, not all errors can possibly be recorded or known about. There's always the possibility anyone, even an amateur, can discover an error in examining coins. Strike It Rich orients one to be able to spot many known errors and to possibility find an unknown one. Starting with the 5-page section "Coin Terms and Definitions" and then moving on to the descriptions of particular recognized errors is a reliable, efficient way to get the basic orientation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great numismatic reference from the team of Potter & Allen
Ken Potter and Brian Allen's book is updated with many more new varieties that stand a reasonable possiblilty of actually being found in pocket change. Some varieties listed herein I have actually found myself.Loads of great close-up photos, accurate desciptions, and a price guide.Great job Ken and Brian!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book to Get Started in Variety Collecting
Mint errors and collecting different varieties of circulating coins is a little understood area of coin collecting. With this book and a little bit of time anybody can start searching their pocket change, their spouse's pocket change, their parent's pocket change or go to the bank and buy rolls of coins to search through. In there you may find coins that can sell from a few dollars to a few hundred dollars. But to be successful you will need knowledge of what to look for. This book will give you the knowledge that you need to get started.

After you become more experienced you will want to buy the "Cherrypickers' Guide" books by Bill Fivaz and J. T. Stanton:

Cherrypickers' Guide to Rare Die Varieties of United States Coins: Half Dimes Through Dollars, Gold, and Commemoratives (Official Whitman Guidebook)

Cherrypickers' Guide Half Cents Through Nickels ... Read more

T. Stanton:
