5-0 out of 5 stars "May the Force be with you when you read this book."
This is awesome. It is a good idea to add some of the storyboard seens into the script. This gives the reader a chance to actually see what George Lucas pictured when he did star wars. And you can see what the actors had to memorize. You can also see what George Lucas wrote and the Deleted scenes. It is a really good book.

5-0 out of 5 stars The REAL episode one
If you like Star Wars, buy the ORIGINAL Episode One. The new movie is C**P! This is the first episode in the true series and anything before it is but marketing strategy, and a show of CGI chutzpah. Blech. Save your $$and buy A New Hope! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS IS IT

This is it, the first three stories to hit the screen, though as we now know, actually four through six. Lucas always saw Star Wars as six episodes.

All of the original Star Wars movies between the covers of a book. Not only easy to read, but captivating in the reading. You just don't want to put them down, they keep pulling the reader into the story.

Cannot recommend enough for any and all enjoying the Star Wars saga. These are the first basic stories from which all the others flow.

Even at this late date Star Wars readers cannot afford to be without them.

4-0 out of 5 stars There is an ending but it is omitted......
This really is a great novelization of a George Lucas story but only the first edition printing has the ending to it!For some reason the subsequent editions cut the final two or three pages of the story.Good luck finding a copy of the 1st edition paperback, I haven't seen it since I was in high school 25 years ago!

2-0 out of 5 stars Disapponting Ending, Excellent Story
What an extremely disappointing ending to such an intriguing, captivating story. The storyline to this seemed to just "stop" at the end. The story's plot is an excellent exploration of a society living off of pills and generic food-like items. A structured society with rigid rules of employment, social interaction, and a ban on sexual activity, among other things. The characters do not have names, but rather three letter designators and a numeric suffix. People are seemingly programmed to handle life as near automatons, with real robotic figures handling disciplinary and enforcement positions. The ending, however, leaves one completely flat. Not at all an ending with some sense of closure, but it left me feeling flat - like the story had impacted against a brick wall and exploded into nothingness. Mr. Bova is an excellent writer, and this particular short story seems to be based on a George Lucas screenplay. It may be that Lucas had the movie end in such a low, depressing moment - where there are more questions than answers. This might be great for a movie, but it sure sucks for a book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great story but MISSING an ending.Gee wiz

At least the movie has some sense of resolution but left me wanting more.Usually the books expound and cover more elements than the movie.

Such is true here as I could not put the book down. The major disappointment here was the ending, what ending? It was as if someone took out the last pages, but there were 2 pages after the "end" and they were blank. It does not appear that the text faded away, and oh would that be just convienent; the text is fully intact and readable (even thought the book is old) and the last pages' text is faded.I DON'T THINK SO.What a cruel joke.Unless this book has a sequel or it is first in some kind of series, I am HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED as it definitly left me with wanting more.

So what happened?I guess it's obvious that the Superstructure is not radioactive, at least not lethal anyway. So our hero decides to go "Outside" which is said to be polluted and unlivable.Well? The dude makes it to the top where a rusted grating is in place and he pushes on it, can't get it open.So he pushes up against it with his back....Well did he get it open or not? What was the outside really like, it would have made the read worth the while.SPOILED THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE.

5-0 out of 5 stars This review was completed 7.5% under budget
Wow! I expected a typical 1970s hack job, but this novelization really adds to the experience of this film.

Ben Bova's vision is ultra-violent where George Lucas' savagery is implied...but it's compelling because it's believable. We understand the nature of the hologram (I thought that they were humans that thought of themselves as computer images). We understand a little more about the sad fate of LUH, and what was eventually planned for THX. And the rapes...ugh.

Special note for SF Bay Area residents - check out the BART cameo towards the end! ... Read more

This book will bring clarity, simplicity and a sense of purpose to high achievers. While many people are high achievers, and some people are quite contented, it is very rare indeed to find a person who is both at the same time.

Full of fun-to-read and insightful stories, it helps answer questions plaguing many people today. How can I avoid having an abundance of work and a shortage of joy? How can I spend more time on activities that nurture my soul? How can I be a high achiever, make it to the top of my profession, and still be contented?

It encourages you to design your own path in life, and in the process, realize that having it all is as much about a balanced life as it is about a balance sheet. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excelent book, will read it many times over
I found this book to be a good guide to turn your life situation around. I'm employeing instructions presented in it and I see it working. I found that Think and Grow Rich expands on some of the concepts presented in this book. Although Think and Grow Rich has faults of its own. Bottom line, if your at a point in your life where you've always felt that your dreams are just not happening but you're unwilling to give up on them and are looking for a guide or a way to make them into reality the this book will help you. It was written by 3 different authors, which is unique and presents different points of view. I strongly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thought Provoking, Inspiring
Rush, rush, rush. Push, push, push. Gotta achieve. Gotta make it! Life is complicated, but that's the fun. Go go go!

So is this what achievement is all about? Not really, say these authors. There's a system for success, and it's simple. In fact, simplicity in life is part of the magic. But it all starts inside. As the book explains, "what's in the well comes up in the bucket."

This is an interesting book because it's written by three authors-three people who have "been there, done that, and taught others." But the book is written in the singular. The authors realized that their ideas were bouncing all over the place, so they engaged a writer to "harmonize them into one voice." Clever idea, but a little unnerving at times, knowing that there are three people behind the message.

Readers will begin the journey through this book by Defining Success. Chapter 2 talks about Creating Desired Results, with the obligatory four-quadrant model. The dimensions of this one are Failure and Success, Frustration and Fulfillment. The Impact of Thoughts, Words, and Actions is explored in the third chapter. Values are addressed in a chapter entitled "Reflecting on Your Belief System" before an advisory chapter on getting clutter out of your life. The balance of the book focuses on creating an environment for success. It's a "typical" self-help book, but well put together.

Extra features include the inspirational quotes you might expect, sprinkled through the pages. A 19-question assessment at the back of the book serves as a summary, but could also be taken before reading the book as a sort of benchmark. The Points to Ponder at the end of each chapter add value to this book, moving the reader from absorption of good advice to a pensive and self-reflection mode to stimulate progress.

5-0 out of 5 stars Are you living the life you want?
The Contented Achiever is an excellent book that helps us on our journey as to whether we are living the life we truly want!Inthe back of the book, there is a Self Assessment entitled "Are You a Contented Achiever?"My score told me that this book would absolutely be read next!

The lessons learned about being centered and living in the "now" have greatly impacted my life. The chapter on "Clutter" has created even more satisfaction and peace in my daily life.Iask myself the following question:Are there things that tie me to my past that prevent me from enjoying the present?Try it, you'll experience a wonderful sense of letting go and enjoying life more!

4-0 out of 5 stars great reading for organizations
This book is a quick and easy read suitable for individuals or groups. For the "puzzle of life" the book provides, in outline form, key factors to build success and a belief system to allow one to enjoy the ride.I recommend it highly and recently purchased copies for my entire organization.

5-0 out of 5 stars Never Throw Away a Big Box Until You Have Thought It Through
I enjoyed this book so much that I got several copies to give away to friends. It was humorous, nostalgic, thought-provoking, cathartic and inspiring.

Not since I read Co-Dependent No More have I had a more graphic awakening to my own reality. This book provided me with a plethora of labels to apply to many dysfunctional life-situations and thereby provided many clues to personal problem-solving answers.

Even though I already know I am an extremely organized individual, still, I learned many new ideas to experiment with in my constant quest for even better methods for pursuit of a productive life both physically and emotionally. No one could read this book without coming away with something new to think about.

Big Boxes can hold many miracles...don't miss Chapter 6. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Well done book
This Star Wars book was well done in it's premise of a photo comic book. The pictures were clear and not fuzzy, and the wording was pretty accurate to the movie. $9.00 I think is a bit high for the price of it but considering the ink and paper that it's made on it's worth the price.

Considered George MacDonald's greatest work, Lilith (1895) is among the most popular and profound fantasy novels of the Victorian era. This collection of critical essays is the first book-length study of this important literary work. The selections function in working dialogue with one another, driven by the central idea of liminality in fantasy literature. In addition to providing fresh interpretations of the novel, these essays implement esteemed background scholarship on Lilith, including that of notable author C.S. Lewis. Analytical topics include MacDonald's rhetorical strategy as a writer of prose romance, the implications of the novel's famous "endless ending," and the significance of Lilith in the development of modern fantasy. ... Product Description

The name Christopher Lee was for many years synonymous with the best in screen horror. His Count Dracula remains unrivaled and his performances in classics like The Mummy, The Face of Fu Manchu, and The Wicker Man are just as striking. But Lee's film and television credits outnumber those of many other stars, and stretch well beyond the confines of Hammer Horror. Jonathan Rigby, author of American Gothic and English Gothic, chronicles Lee's entire career, including his starring role as James Bond's nemesis in The Man With the Golden Gun and his recent appearances in The Lord of the Rings and Star Wars trilogies. Compiled with the cooperation of Christopher Lee, and featuring a foreword by Star Wars creator George Lucas enthusiastically commemorating Lee as "breathing life into every character he plays," this is the definitive guide to one of cinema's last true legends.

4-0 out of 5 stars REQUIRED READING FOR ALL CHRIS LEE FANS, SCHOLARS!
Once again Jonathan Rigby demonstrates his place as one of England's premier experts on horror films.Hot on the heels of his excellent and recommended ENGLISH GOTHIC comes this new book, a complete listing of horror icon Christopher Lee's film and TV work, current up to 2001. The book even lists Lee's upcoming work in the new STAR WARS and LORD OF THE RINGS movies.Rigby is a talented writer and has made excellent use of rare primary and secondary materials, including a new interview with Lee and viewings of some of Lee's rarest work. Not only is the information updated and complete--Rigby has also unearthed many rare stills, behind the scenes shots, and even some personal photos. A lot of the illustrations are nothing short of breathtaking.

CHRISTOPHER LEE is an excellent book. It is not quite perfect, which is why I couldn't give it five stars. Perhaps by necessity, the book is "listy" and seems to pay as much attention to Lee's minor and/or uninteresting films as the major classics. Some of Rigby's evaluations I simply can't endorse, such as his wild overpraise of THE RETURN OF CAPTAIN INVINCIBLE, while elsewhere he disses one of my favorite Lee flicks, DRACULA AD 1972 (I still insist this film is vastly more entertaining than all the other Hammer-Lee Dracs except the first one--call me crazy, but a cult IS developing about this one!).And Rigby's attack on the ground-breaking work of Raymond McNally and Radu Florescu's IN SEARCH OF DRACULA (Rigby calls their landmark findings regarding the connection between Vlad the Impaler and Bram Stoker "hopelessly flimsy")betrays his membership in that revisionist cult of Dracula fans that has totally blown out of proportion certain needed correctives to M and F's work.C'mon, Jon, Stoker got the name and much of the details of Vlad's life right! There IS a legitimate connection between Vlad and Stoker's Count!.....

But these are very minor complaints, matters of opinion, really. The biggest problem--and it's not really that bad--is that since this is an authorized book, there are no negative critical comments directed at Lee or his performances.Obviously this is probably impossible in a work approved by the subject, but while Rigby often points out substandard work on Lee's resume, he never puts the blame on Lee for agreeing to work in such claptrap. By the same token, hindsight shows us that Lee goofed by turning down lucrative work in HALLOWEEN, SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE, and various popular US TV shows over the years.Of course Chris couldn't know that at the time--but when instead he did things like BEAR ISLAND and CARAVANS instead, one has to wonder what Lee was thinking! But I don't want to carp too much.95% or more of Rigby's CHRISTOPHER LEE is excellent, thoughtful, lavishly illustrated stuff. It is certainly a must-read for all fans of the actor and horror films in general. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible Narration by a brilliant radio actor
Okay, Okay. It's Indiana Jones. You know what you're going to get. It's good, non-stop action.

But what makes this set is the narration. For the 2 cassette, 3 hour adventure Dove Audio hired William Conrad to do the reading.

Few are more qualified, for it was Conrad who gave voice to the CBS Radio program, ESCAPE, in the 1950's.It was he who told the terror-filled tale of three men in a lighthouse (3 Skeleton Key) that was literally being devoured by a seething, snarling mass of rats bigger than a football field and thicker than the schooner from which they swarmed.

It was the late Mr. Conrad who gave booming voice to the fabled Marshall Matt Dillon on Gunsmoke. The program was heard on CBS radio long before it went to TV.Conrad's take on Dillon makes the Marshall much more human than the cardboard figure he was on television. When the show went to TV, Conrad wanted to go with it....but they did not want a FAT MATT.I guess Mr. Conrad got the last laugh years later when he did his Jake and the Fat Man show on the tube.He also had the highly rated Cannon show.
Conrad's voice was golden and will be missed.
among radio people his stock was on the highest shelf, a niche reserved for him and a select few others.Orson Welles comes to mind.and that's about it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Super Reader
Indy has a father that is still alive, and he is the block for the old chip, so to speak. He does wear hats that haven't been beaten to hell, however. With his dad, Jones must first uncover and make sure that the Holy Grail does not fall into the wrong hands. To do that, though, a whole lot of surviving and dealing with devious females and relatives must be done.

4-0 out of 5 stars Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
ISBN 034536161X - Back to books related to WWII and religious artifacts. As a group, these books are interesting if only for the complete effect - from Ludlum's The Gemini Contenders to The DaVinci Code to Indiana Jones, the differences and similarities in the tales are fascinating.

Indy begins the book by closing out his nearly lifelong chase after the Cross of Coronado. Ready for a return to the academic life, he returns late for the school year, only to find that his father is missing. Henry Jones has his own lifelong chase nearing an end - he appears to be within sight of the Grail Cup, and there are several groups of people who will do anything to beat him to it. Nazis, Henry's assistant Elsa, and a secret Brotherhood all have their eyes on the same prize, for their own reasons. Who will reach it first isn't nearly as important as who will be allowed to claim it.

As adventure books on the subject go, The Last Crusade is an odd mix of lightheartedness and murder, which detracts from the excitement of the story in the book but played well in the movie. Overall, though, it's a nice adaptation of the screenplay by Jeffrey Boam.

4-0 out of 5 stars Henry Jone's Last Crusade
The novelization of the third Indiana Jones series film starring Harrison Ford and Sean Connery is as exciting as the movie itself. What makes this story interesting is the presence of Henry Jones, the bookworm father of Indiana Jones, who is a well-known archaeologist. Last Crusade returns a bit to the first one portraying Indy as a professor. Just as the first of the series Nazi was the archenemy of the Jones' party and the treasure they are after is again biblical. Logic and illogic coexist. But that's okay. Indiana Jones came from the comic hero long long time back.
If you love the movie, I am sure you will enjoy the book too including some of the parts movie left out. It is really like playing PC roll playing game while I am reading this book.

Recommended for Indiana Jones series fans.
