3-0 out of 5 stars Half good, half not
We've been listening to this CD set for the last year or so on car trips. The stories run a little long for average school commutes and errands around town.My 3-year-old and 6-year-old really enjoy "The Talking Eggs" and "Thumbelina" (the 3-year-old less so than the 6-year-old).But ALL of us think that "The Fisherman and His Wife" and "The Emperor and the Nightingale" are not worth the time or effort to listen to.My children get bored with them.My husband and I think that these latter two stories are way too long, don't flow well as stories, and have plots and characters that just aren't that sympathetic. But Sissy Spacek's narration of "The Talking Eggs" and the story itself are really engaging and fun to listen to.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rabbit Ears' version of everyone's favorite fairy tales!
When I was small, I remember I always used to listen to Rabbit Ears CDs all the time. This audio cd is certainly no exception, as it contains fairy tales that I have grew up with for a long time. Each story is tender and subtle that makes the cd very relaxing to listen to.Probably my favorite stories from this audio cd would have to be "The Emperor and the Nightingale" and "The Talking Eggs."If you enjoy this audio cd, I would recommend listening to the other audio cds from the Rabbit Ears Treasury.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rabbit Ears Treasury of Fairy Tales
When our children were little, every Friday evening on NPR radio, Rabbit Ears would share these treasures. The stories are excellent with movie stars reading the story and famous musicians doing the music. It is exciting to have these now on cd's! I love the Talking Eggs!

5-0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for
My 3.5 year old son is ready to give up nap, but I wasn't ready to give up my afternoon quiet time. This was the perfect solution. I put one of these CDs in and he lays down and listens. There is nice music throughout and the storytellers all have very pleasant voices. There are 2 CDs in this set, each with over an hour of storytelling. He likes them so much that he frequently gets up after the first CD is over and asks for the other one, so I get 2 hours of quiet and he gets the rest he still needs to get through his day. I will definitely be getting the other CDs in this series. ... Read more

Product Description
Once upon a time there was a woman who was sad because she had no children.  One day she planted a magic seed and from the seed grew a flower.  Inside the flower was a tiny, exquisite girl no bigger than the woman's thumb.  Her name was Thumbelina.

The two lived happily together until an ugly old toad snuck in and snatched Thumbelina away.  So began Thumbelina's adventures in a world full of dangers for little people.  Luckily, size isn't all that matters, and Thumbelina's kindness and courage bring her long-lasting happiness. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Soulmate in Heaven
Alan Rudolph's MADE IN HEAVEN is a modern example of a popular genre of the 1930s and '40s: the heavenly or angel/devil fantasy. Supporting roles and cameos include several well-known musicians, creator of the single panel newspaper comic THE FAR SIDE (Gary Larson), and Debra Winger as a male spirit named Emmett. This sweet period piece is set in the 1950s.

SYNOPSIS--
Mike drowns after heroically rescuing a family trapped in a car that's plunged into a river. As a heavenly spirit, he meets and weds Annie, a brand new soul who's never been to Earth. When Annie's number is called for being born, Mike gets permission from heaven's boss, Emmett to also reincarnate, but he has only 30 years in which to find Annie. If Mike fails, he'll have to endure an unhappy life with other people that could end with his never again seeing the Pearly Gates.

The two grow up separately and lead remarkably different Earthly lives. As Mike's 30th birthday approaches, he still hasn't found Annie.

As of 9/09, "Made in Heaven" was not available on DVD.

5-0 out of 5 stars A lovely movie
This movie, 'Made in Heaven', (1987-Timothy Hutton/Kelly McGillis)is one that will make you go hmmm,.. think I'll watch it again!
I find it perplexing and peculiar that 'Warner Studios' hasn't released this movie to DVD.So much junk is being released from studio vaults.. so why not release a movie as well acted and interesting a story as this one. The story's premise, 'that all things', even conceptual ideas.. such as computers, are hatched in Heaven, and that we bring these inspirations to earth when we incarnate, is fun to ponder. The idea that love, people connections, and friendships that appear in our daily lives as 'dejaVu' and/or 'coincidence', are really pre-birth relationships, makes for a great story. So, 'haven't I seen you before'?,..just might be more than a pick-up line. :)
I know at least 'six' people who would also like to buy this movie on DVD.

Timothy Hutton, is,..in my opinion, underrated in the movie industry, because he chooses stories that are interesting, thoughtful,offbeat..character driven, sorta like life can be.

2-0 out of 5 stars Style over substance, and poor style at that
Early in his career, Tom Cruise developed a cocky, in-your-face persona that he used in film after film.
He played the cocky unlikable fighter pilot, the cocky unlikable bartender, the cocky unlikable NASCAR driver and the cocky unlikable pool hustler in movies that were limited by his character. Even in films that were saved by the superior performances of others - such as Dustin Hoffman in "Rain Man", or Paul Newman in "The Color of Money"- Tom still played the cocky unlikable character.

With a handful of bizarre public appearances, he developed a nearly universal reputation, Sloane Crosley wrote in Village Voice, as "one spoke behind Michael Jackson on the freak wheel."

This is his cocky fighter pilot movie.

I see one five-star review after another on this page praising the blu-ray version of this film, in particular the audio.I am not reviewing a blu-ray experience - only the film - and I have to say that no soundtrack could make a silk purse from this sow's ear.

As in many Cruise films, supporting parts are excellently cast and performed: here by pre-bald Anthony Edwards as Goose and pre-famous Meg Ryan as Mrs. Goose and Kelly McGillis as Top Gun instructor and love interest and Tom Skerritt as a Navy Commander who looks and sounds like a real Navy Commander.Val Kilmer is more sympathetic than Cruise's character as his competing fighter pilot, Iceman.

Aside from the just plain tediousness of the umpteenth iteration of Cruise's cocky-unlikable personna, the film panders shamelessly to the lowest, most testosterone-driven machismo. An attempt is made to humanize Cruise's "Maverick" as Skerritt's character confides in Maverick that he knew his father back when he heroically saved three other planes in a dogfight "on the wrong side of the line of some map."This make's Maverick's father heroic, perhaps, but doesn't for a moment justify Maverick repeatedly crossing the line as an I'm-too-cool-to-follow-the-rules Hot Shot.

In a telling scene Iceman confronts Maverick after a flight:

Iceman: You two really are cowboys.
Maverick: What's your problem, Kazanski?
Iceman: You're everyone's problem. That's because every time you go up in the air, you're unsafe. I don't like you because you're dangerous.
Maverick: That's right! Ice... man. I am dangerous.

And by the normal structure of movies the audience is supposed to think (and millions of brainless testosterone-driven men DID think) "yeah! You tell him, Maverick!" and the structure of the film, I guess, is that you're supposed to view Iceman as the villain?I put a question mark on what should be a statement, because the character of Maverick is WAY on the "wrong side of the line".Heroism and bravery and the ability to think creatively outside the box are still desirable characteristics in the military and in the human race, but in the military I've known for nearly 30 years carelessly risking your life, the lives of others and millions of dollars of government property doesn't make you a hero - it makes you the subject of courts-martial.

I almost recommend the film only to watch Skerritt and Edwards and Ryan - she made her mark in the minds of millions in scenes such as the one where she orders Goose "take me to bed, or lose me forever!"It's just too bad that the leading character of the film is cocky and unlikable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Top Gun on Blue Ray
We have not yet watched this because it is a Christmas gift for my husband and he does not know about it.The rating is for the service I received, it was great.Helga Brayton

4-0 out of 5 stars "80's Classic!"
Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis star in Tony Scott's 1986 action film.
A fighter pilot romances an instructor and loses his best friend in
an accident. This is definitely one of Tom's best and I'm glad to
have this 2-disc set that not only has nice picture and sound,
but cool extras. I highly recommend this 80's classic.

4-0 out of 5 stars TOP GUN - Blu-Ray
I saw TOP GUN in the theater, owned it on VHS & DVD, this blu-ray I just bought for $10.00 is no doubt the best I've seen and heard. I love this movie even more now than ever before. What really amazed me is how great the surround audio is, the audio on DVD disappointed me big time and thank goodness, this blu-ray made up for it, what a superb upgrade even with the video. I love the aerial and F-14 shots, Tony Scott really made a magnificent job with it, in my opinion, along with the great surround sound, it makes you feel like you're sitting right there inside that cockpit. I love this blu-ray and I highly recommend it, it will make a great addition to your movie library. Thank you, Paramount, for giving this movie the superb upgrade it deserves.

2-0 out of 5 stars This is supposed to be high definition????
I'm going to get right to the point. First off this is a great movie especially if the F-14 is your favorite aircraft. However the picture looks the same as it did when I used to watch this on a 19" inch TV in the late 80's on a rented VHS tape. Paramount should be ashamed, this is not even close to 720 let alone 1080. I have old DVD's that offer a better picture in the bluray player then this. Yes it does have a cool menu but the picture is NOT high-Def and the sound is only acceptable when you put the setting on 6.1 DTS Master (only reason I gave 2-stars). If you do not have a good external speaker system do not waste your money because the picture and the sound won't be worth it. ... Read more
