An outstanding telling of a truly enthralling tale
Expertly narrated by Kate Hood, is an engaging unabridged audiobook of the novel Kimberley Sun by Di Morrissey. Lily Barton is a beautiful fifty-three-year-old adventurer searching for diversity and change in her life. Morrissey finally has a biographer worthy of him
This is a remarkable book and, like it's subject, is startlingly unique. It's funny, clever, insightful and often quite moving. Above all it's brilliantly, dazzlingly written. Morrissey finally has a biographer worthy of him.

I have to admit though that I was, relatively speaking, a part-time Morrissey fan when I came to this book, but after finishing 'Saint Morrissey' I realised what I'd been missing out on, went out and bought all the albums I didn't have (except 'Southpaw Grammar' of course) and fell in love with Morrissey all over again, and more completely this time. But then this isn't just the best Morrissey book out there, this is one of the best books on pop culture and fandom ever penned.

Or at least, one of the best I've read - and I've read it twice now, in quick succession. I may even start memorising lines from it - talking about the effect hearing the first Smiths album had on him Simpson writes: 'It filled me with the urge to shoplift expensive perfume and spray bus shelters with it'. Is fandom catching? And can you become a fan of a writer simply because of the intensity and intelligence of their own fandom? 'Saint Morrissey' certainly makes it seem that way

You've finally earned it, baby...
Maybe there are two kinds of Morrissey fans, but I don't really believe so. People who only like one or two Morrissey albums tend to be 80s leftover **Smiths** fans. And to be fair, I suppose it's possible that some of those people will enjoy this book. But my honest feeling, however selfish, is that anyone who might be described as a CASUAL Smiths/Morrissey fan does not deserve this book.

SAINT MORRISSEY is for the only kind of Morrissey fan - those of us who have stuck with Moz. By which I don't mean not liking some albums better than others (I happen to like them all - see below). Or not sometimes feeling frustrated at what being a Morrissey fan seems to mean to certain people we all know!! (There's a great quote about this on the back of SAINT MORRISSEY, which is too good to give away here.) But, well, you're either a Morrissey fan or you're not.

If you are a fan, this book will speak to your heart, make you immediately start grabbing the albums and playing them incessantly (if you've ever stopped), and make you feel... like this book is part of your Morrissey collection.

I've read SAINT MORRISSEY three times. So far. But - as I promised above - I must also confess that I love KILL UNCLE and SOUTHPAW GRAMMAR. And if I were to offer any criticism, it would be that Mark Simpson unfairly neglects those albums and MALADJUSTED... But maybe another true mark of a Morrissey fan is that we all have our own books to write?! ... Read more

I didn't want it end
I read this book over the course of a snowy new england weekend. I felt
like I knew everyone in the book. I didn't want it end. Bill is about
to publish another soon. It's a shame we've had to wait 13 years for another story by this master storyteller. His songs are short stories,
this book is one bloody great one.

Evocative and wry, like Bill's songs
Morrissey, who gave us new ways to see things through song (listen to "Dance the Grizzly Bear" sometime) moves seamlessly from guitar to page.His novel emphasizes character development and setting; plot comes a long way last, but at the end I didn't care about that -- what I did care about was what would happen to his characters.Dare we hope for a sequel?It's hard to ask more of a novelist.

Reads like Morrisey's songs feel
I loved this book. Like Morrisey's carefully crafted songs, the booksexpands the low key events in a small New England mill town until they feelas important to the reader as they are to the characters. Those looking forhigh adventure or unlikely plot twists should look elsewhere; This book isfor those who love a simple tale-well-told. I can't wait until he tosseshis hat in again with another book.

Bill, don't give up your gigs!
After seeing Bill Morrissey perform at a small club in New York, I couldn't wait to read his novel. What a time waster! Flat, one-dimensional characters with little to say in a town where nothing much happens. If there's a story line here, I missed it! Dialogue is inane, with an over-abundance of women who sigh, "Oh, Henry...," at the protagonist.

Simply put, this book is brilliant. Most Smiths/Morrissey publications are terrible, tacky, and painfully biased. Goddard effectively covers every possible topic influencing, tied to, and subsequently related to The Smiths and Morrissey. For a Smiths or Morrissey fan: you should already have this.

More Moz Than Moz
This is a beautiful and hilarious tome I am looking forward to reading.It's comforting in a way to know that I'm not the biggest Morrissey nerd on the planet.

Finally, a Morrissey reference book worth reading that is simple, yet very informative on every level of the man. This is in no way a boring or dull book with too much wit writing from authors attempting to out do each other. The author, Simon Goddard has reached out to those desiring a Morrissey song by song listing and detail while with the Smiths and onto his solo career. Additionally, this book includes so much more insights to topics/subject matters that have been associated or of interest to Morrissey throughout his life. Mozipedia is worth owning.

Even imperfect relationships can lead to perfect love
I make no bones about it - I believe Mary Morrissey is one of the most gifted and wisest teachers of our time. You can go to 100 great authors who will motivate and inspire you, but Mary takes it a step further with truly empathetic understanding and solid, workable action steps to actually create the change you seek in your life (instead of just reading about it and sticking with the same life).

Mary Morrissey's book, No Less Than Greatness No Less Than Greatness: The Seven Spiritual Principles That Make Real Love Possibleis all about cleaning up our love relationships so that they're more satisfying and gratifying to both parties involved. She's been there and she knows how difficult it can seem to be - you want something more or different that your spouse or lover or child can't seem to get on board with. So-so: dry, missed opportunities, harmless
This book sounded fascinating:Rome, architechture, golden age, personalities, drama; what else could a reader want?As it turns out, plenty.
I don't know architecture, so found some of the book a slow go.The author painstakingly describes churches, fountains, etc., in detail - but a few photos would have saved (or enlightened) a few thousand words.
This was a rather dry bio of these two folks, with disappointingly little about how they and their crafts fared in the context of life in the day.For example, I found the fluidity between their "careers" in sculpture, painting, and architecture to be remarkable.Almost as though architecture had not yet evolved into a credible career.I was surprised at the extent to which the Popes were intimiately involved in architecture - not just of St. Peters, but throughout the city.

There is but passing reference to how Rome had to eye the impressive power of France and Spain warily; this must have colored some aspects of life in the day - including how these two gentlement found there way.Even so, Bernini's trip to France late in life is a dry narrative.

Dava Sobel's LONGITUDE is a much better example of treatment of historical concepts that includes description of everyday events and brings the era to life.This wasn't such a long book, so no harm no foul.But now I have to Google all these places to see what Mr. Morrisseey was talking about.

When in Rome
This book is excellent. It will make you see the beauty of Rome from a more personal direction. The competition between these two figures was of great benefit to Rome.

Genius vs Genius
Here's a look at a splendid historic period in a splendid city revealed to us through the lives of two artistic geniuses, Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Francesco Borromini.Jake Morrissey gives us a smooth ride through the rough roads of 18th Century Rome, a world dominated and manipulated by various popes and cardinals but given lasting meaning, in the end, by the artists of the period, primarily Bernini and Borromini.Morrissey knows how to spin the story without getting bogged down in architectural minutiae while giving plenty details to set the mood and the understanding of the story. I have never been able to decide which of the two I most prefer, one visit to Rome it's Bernini and on another it's Borromini and Morrissey's book didn't help me change that but certainly helped me to admire them both more than I already did.It is a book that would immeasurably enhance anyone's visit to Rome bringing another dimension to the appreciation of the extraordinary buildings left as a legacy by these two men.

Penned by Tomohiro Chiba, ASTRAY R is a manga series running concurrent to Koichi Tokita's ASTRAY.Since the former reveals events missing from the latter, it's necessary to read both series to get a cohesive narrative.Continuing the adventures of cocky junk dealer Lowe Guele (or Lowe Gear in TOKYOPOP's version), Vol. 1 of ASTRAY R explains how he acquires the massive Gerbera Straight sword for his Gundam, as well as what happens to SEED regular Lacus Clyne before her space rescue in Episode 7 of the TV series.Apart from TOKYOPOP editors adding footnotes translating obvious sound effects, Yasunari Toda's artwork gets so abstract at times that the reader can't tell what's going on.But the so-so dialogue and the likable cast make ASTRAY R an amusing pulp story.Vol. 1 includes a bonus art gallery and a rundown of ASTRAY's relationship with SEED.

Child's Fanatasy story
This is a nice long bedtime book for my 3 yr old.Long ago I had a calendar of the artwork in this book.When my son was born, I had 3 of the pictures matted and framed for the nursery.Later, I had to hunt down the book to go along with it.The artwork is wonderful for this mechanical engineer mom and budding engineer son.

The story is as good as the artwork.It follows a child's imagination to the world of the Great Kettles.I would recommend for ages 4-8.
Younger children may not sit still.Nor do they understand about time, the Man in the Moon, Mother Nature, etc.

Promote imagination
What a wonderful way to start a child on the path of imagination.

Perhaps the best thing about *The Great Kettles* is that, though the story is fun and fanciful, it's not necessary. It's so much more rewarding to let a child look at the illustrations and create his or her own story. And not only children--I've found great inspiration in the colorful and detailed illustrations that grace every page.

Dean Morrissey's books should be on every child's bedside table.

Johnny Rogan, author of the best-selling biography "Morrissey & Marr: The Severed Alliance" presents Morrissey: The Albums, an in-depth study of Morrissey's musical work with the Smiths up through 2006 and "Ringleader of the Tormentors". Too much repetition
Frankly, the book was a little dissapointing. Too much repetition, and not enough about the meaning of the song. Also, too little in the preamble about Morrissey's life.

Incredible Overview Of Morrissey's Solo Career !
This incredibly informative book by Johnny Rogan primarily focuses on Morrissey's solo albums, songs and B-sides. The author is very comprehensive and incisive and there are many interesting interviews. He rightfully lauds some of Morrissey's overlooked CDS including "Southpaw Grammar", "Maladjusted" "Kill Uncle" and the masterful "Bona Drag". All Smiths and Morrissey fans must buy this over 300 page book that is laden with details, insights, revelations and glimpses into the enigmatic mind of Morrissey. Interesting, if dry, look at underappreciated filmmaker
Paul Morrissey was responsible for Andy Warhol's most commercially successful and infamous films. After joining the Factory in the mid sixties Morrissey quickly became Warhol's defacto manager and in house filmmaker.

His output ran the whole gamut, from the experimental and extremely influential 'Flesh', 'Heat' and 'Trash' to the handsomely mounted (albeit still low budget) perversely funny gore fests 'Flesh for Frankenstein' and 'Blood for Dracula' that are perrenial cult faves. And he discovered stars Joe Dallesandro and Italian beauty Dalila DiLazzaro. Morrissey's originality and skill certainly deserves more attention as a important contributor to independent cinema.

Yacowar's book is a little prosaic and academic in style, perheaps best read as companion pieces to his commentaries on the recently remastered Frankenstein and Dracula DVD's, though ultimately this book seems only mean't for students and cinephiles. ... Read more

When Father Christmas pays a visit on Christmas Eve, Sam's busiest time of the year gets even busier. The problem, as Father Christmas explains, is that he's running behind schedule and wants Sam to help him out.

Amazing artwork
The artwork in this book is absolutely incredible. I can only find a few books by Dean Morrissey as both writer and illustrator but many more where he illustrated them. It is a pity because both this and Ship Of Dreams are both amazing books. The artwork in this book is wonderful. It is the story of Sam Thatcher, a toy maker in a small town. But on Christmas Eve his shop is condemned. Then Father Christmas stops by and asks Sam for a favour - he needs Sam to deliver the presents in this town because of a great storm. This book is a great story with marvellous artwork.

My kids are nuts about this book
The recommended age may be 5-10, but I have two and three year old boys that are crazy about this book.They love looking at the paintings and finding things in them (they are full of detail), they love asking about the story.Hardly a night goes by that they don't ask to read this book, in spite of having plenty of others to choose from.

As Christmas stories go, yes, it is predictable.However, I think 'How the Grinch...' and 'Frosty the Snowman' are pretty predictable, too, but that does not lessen the enjoyment kids will find in reading and re-reading them with their parents.Share this book with your little ones, and enjoy the intricate paintings along the way.

Enjoyable Christmas story
This story is easily understandable and of a length that keeps children interested. Adults will also enjoy this book while reading it to "that special child." The lesson set forth in this story is an important one for the Christmas season. Mr. Morrissey's paintings are wonderful!! His attention to detail is incredible, done with care and perfection. The character of Sam Thatcher is especially authentic and recognizable. I am looking forward to the next Morrissey publication.

A wonderful Christmas story
The Christmas Ship is not your typical children's Christmas story. Mr. Morrissey has gently pointed out that "stuff" isn't what is important in life.It is very easy for us to see the good in Sam and the children, but we are also shown the kind side of the mayor! Children will learn quite a bit from Mr. Morrissey. When they realize what it is that Sam leaves the Mayor for Christmas....well that's what Christmas is all about! I sure wish Sam lived in my neighborhood!And the paintings in this book are spectacular! Each page deserves to be framed and hung for display! ... Read more
