Product Description
From the sixties spy Austin Powers and his nemesis Dr. Evil, to metalhead Wayne, and the German pseudo-intellectual Dieter, Mike Myers has created some of the biggest characters in popular culture. While Myers is a huge movie star, his rise to fame is not well known. Best-selling biographer Martin Knelman chronicles Myers' early career from the first television appearance of Wayne's World (not on Saturday Night Live), to his breakthrough success on Saturday Night Live and movies such as Wayne's World and Austin Powers.

The road to success has not always been smooth. His first hit movies were followed by flops. Portraits of Myers as a vain control freak began to surface in the media including a vicious profile in Vanity Fair. Accusations intensified when Myers, facing a multi-million dollar lawsuit and intense criticism from the Hollywood establishment, stopped production on a movie based on his Dieter character because it wasn't funny enough. Only with the intervention of Jeffrey Katzenberg did Mike Myers' career and reputation bounce back with the overwhelming success of Shrek.

Mike's World explores the controversies and successes of Myers' career. This compelling portrait of a passionate artist who is devoted to his career, his family and wife. It is above all about a man who continues to live by his late father's advice: always be funny. ... Read more

Product Description
In this refreshing new take on spirituality, bestselling author Deepak Chopra uses a fictional tale of a comedian and his unlikely mentor to show us a path back to hope, joy, and even enlightenment—with a lot of laughter along the way.

Meet Mickey Fellows. A successful L.A. comedian, he’s just a regular guy, with his fair share of fears, egocentricities, and addictions. After his father’s death, Mickey meets a mysterious stranger named Francisco, who changes his life forever. The two begin an ongoing discussion about the true nature of being. Reluctantly at first, Mickey accepts the stranger’s help and starts to explore his own life in an effort to answer the riddles Francisco poses. Mickey starts to look at those aspects of himself that he has hidden behind a wall of wisecracks all his life. Eventually Mickey realizes that authentic humor opens him up to the power of spirit—allowing him to finally make real connections with people.

After taking the reader on a journey with Mickey, Chopra then spells out the lessons that Mickey’s story imparts to us: ten reasons to be optimistic, even in our challenging world. Chopra believes that the healthiest response to life is laughter from the heart, and even in the face of global turmoil, we can cultivate an internal sense of optimism. Rich with humor and practical advice, Why Is God Laughing? shows us without a doubt that there is always a reason to be grateful, that every possibility holds the promise of abundance, and that obstacles are simply opportunities in disguise. In the end, we really don’t need a reason to be happy. The power of happiness lies within each of us, just waiting to be unleashed. And Mickey Fellows’s journey shows us the way. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars a formula story
This book was a bit of a disappointment, as I found the story a bit flat and predictable. HOWEVER, the prinicples at the back of the book make it worth the time and money.

3-0 out of 5 stars Short on the 'How' and 'Why', but GREAT on the 'What'
Just wanted to leave a quick note about how I generally enjoyed this book. Some of the jokes still make me giggle when I think of them.I think it's great as a 'What' to do once we find that we are in an illusion of our own creating.LAUGH!'Cause it is funny when you generally get what we are doing to ourselves in this shabby substitute for reality. The book wasn't great on the 'how' this could happen or 'why' it happened, but having said that, if you find yourself in a burning house, do you ask 'why' or 'how' it could happen?NO!You just GET OUT!And I think this book goes a long way in showing us how to do just that.

1-0 out of 5 stars Pseudo-Religious teacher
Never buy a book until you research the author first. I did this for the first time with this book which was a mistake. Looking on google under Deepak Chopra, he has claimed to have caused an earthquake while meditating on Siva, on his twitter or facebook account. Im not saying this is impossible, but if you are in tune with God you will in no way harm anyone, or have a social network profile for that matter. So he lies. Anyway, the book is very vulgar to be even considered spiritual( true teachers don't want to offend anyone) has one or two good beginning points (to laugh and know you are not the ego) and at the end says to find God you must stop struggling, DEAD END. This is dangerous, eager spiritual aspirants now think all they have to do is stop trying to find God, theres a sigh of relief, no hard work to attain the highest spiritual goal, so they stop trying and their untamed mind goes crazy and they revert to old ways and habits. Jesus said through much tribulation the kingdom of heaven is attained, it took many years if not lifetimes to create our bad mental habits and will take many years of hard opposition until at last you find that there is no more struggle and you are naturally in silence and bliss. Rome wasn't built in a day! I will in no way read from this man again. Spiritual matters being the most important, you must dig deep before you consider a teacher. You wouldn't take directions to a mountain from someone who hasn't been there before, would you? Similarly, do not try to find God through someone who has not found him. For true realized religion, read Swami Vivekananda, Paramanhansa Yogananda, Sri Ramana Maharshi, Jesus, Krishna, St. Teresa of Avila, St. Therese Neumann, and other true teachers who are backed by experience, wisdom, and eye witness of miracles. Bless you friends in the love of the One Formless God and never give up on your ascending path to eternal unmatched bliss.

1-0 out of 5 stars Did Someone Else Write this Book?
I listened to the audio book and felt that Deepak Chopra was reading and seeing much of this material for the first time. The jokes were funny, but delivered by Chopra, seemed awkward. It made me wonder if he provided an outline to a ghost writer and asked him or her to fill in the blanks. Then he assembled the whole thing, added his basic philosophy, and called it a wrap.

This book would have been better presented by a voiceover professional, as Chopra's rendering is deadpan and halting. When he reads slangy expressions they are intoned in a way that makes me think, "He couldn't have written this stuff."

I have read and heard dozens of Chopra's books and I am a fan of his approach to life and healing, but this book is getting praise simply because people love Chopra, not because it is a good product. I would much rather hear straightforward statements than be patronized with a parable about a clueless person who finally wakes up. ... Read more

The origin of the convention center goes back to 1983, when civic leaders became concerned that Austin was losing money from potential convention business because the city's current convention facility, Palmer Auditorium, was too small. The Austin city council unveiled a concept for a $35 million convention center as part of a $350 million complex of hotels and parkland on the south shore of Town Lake (now Lady Bird Lake ). Resistance to this plan by neighborhood groups near the proposed site and downtown business leaders caused the city to consider several other sites, finally choosing the downtown site near Waller Creek for construction. Financing was provided for by a US $69 million bond sale, approved by referendum on July 29, 1989 . Excerpt: Michael Stanley Myers (born June 26, 1969 in Arlington Heights, Illinois) is a former left-handed Major League Baseball relief pitcher. Myers attended high school at Crystal Lake Central High School in Illinois and later pitched at Iowa State University. In the summers of 1988 and 1989, he pitched for the Brewster Whitecaps of the Cape Cod Baseball League. Myers was in the minor leagues for parts of six seasons. In his final four minor league seasons, he was 14-27 with a 4.29 ERA. He was used primarily as a starting pitcher until 1995, when he pitched 42 games, all in relief, for the Charlotte Knights and Toledo Mud Hens. Myers was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the fourth round of the 1990 amateur draft. Before he ever played for the Giants at the major league level, he was drafted by the Florida Marlins in the 1992 Rule 5 draft. He made his major league debut with the Marlins on April 25, 1995, pitching an inning of scoreless relief. In August of that year, the Marlins traded Myers to the Detroit Tigers as the player to be named later from an earlier deal between the two clubs. He would pitch for Detroit through the 1997 season, and then he would spend time with the Milwaukee Brewers, Colorado Rockies, Arizona Diamondbacks, Seattle Mariners, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, and Chicago White Sox. Myers is a submarine pitcher, throwing the ball with his arm at or below his shoulder rather than above. When Myers was with the Tigers, Baseball Hall of Famer Al Kaline, then a broadcaster with the team, suggested that Myers experiment with the submarine style of pitching. His luck improved in his next two a...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=883711 ... Read more
