It's all about Zeerus!
Compared to the Primortals comics from the Teknophage universe, this is quite a good book. Granted Primaster is not mentioned much, but the Primortals is mainly about everyone's favorite conquest-seeking powerhouse pterodactyl, Zeerus. In both the comics and this book, his character and personality are captured perfectly. He may not like us humans much, but he has a lot of human fans.

The book itself is very well-written and the best parts would have to be where we see things from Zeerus' point of view, especially how he views the universe, religion, morals, principles, etc. It always made me ask, "Just what does a super-intelligent pterodactyl think of these things?" If you're a fan of the comic book series, you might want to get this one.

not half bad
But I need more. I picked up the book whilest at the library one night, attracted to it mainly by its cover. I started to read it that very night, got hooked on it, and spent just about every free moment I had, which isn't a lot for a high school student sometimes, reading the book. I was really getting into it, but also noticed the fact that I seemed to be far from a conclusion as I saw the pages before the ending growing fewer and fewer. The book itself is excellent, and will be even better in a sequel, assuming there is one, and I'm really hoping for one. So while the book was excellent, the ending was not the greatest all considered.

A review from the 'target audience'...
I got the book about a week ago, and was pleased at such an easy read.. and I got it for 4.97, hardcover at that.It was WELL worth my money. I am, for the interested, a 16 year old male.And like many have said, itreads like a comic.. which is what it originally was.I'm an alien buff,and astrology guy, and a computer geek... this book was me.Some peoplewill not like, but then again some people didn't like 'The Hobbit'.In myopinion, if you dig comic plots that run high on the 'techno-modern' side(X-Men, Spawn, etc.), are into aliens, and want a book you can put away ina week easy... this is it.I eagerly await a sequel.

Better Make a sequal
Its like watching a T.V. Show were there are 10 minutes left and you know everything is not going to be finished by then So you know you'll have to wait untill next week to see what happens, but in this cause there is nonext week, I doubt a sequal will come out before 2000. Good book though.

Interesting story, but with flaws & annoying writing habits.
First of all, I was disappointed that the book wasn't actuallywritten by Leonard Nimoy.The story is his idea, but it's written bySteve Perry.Second, the writer has an annoying habit of refering to actual product names and real people (acters, like Arnold Schwartzenegger & Sylvester Stallone). He could have just as easily used generic terms like "soda" instead of "Pepsi" and "chocolate candy bar" instead of "Baby Ruth." I wonder if he actually had permission from these people and companies to do this.The book is aimed at a teenage male reading audience.About age 13 and older.It reads like a comic book, and it took me most of the way through it before I realized why: Steve Perry is primarily a comic book writer.On the good side, the story is good, once you get past his annoying product references.Once you get about half way into it, you're hooked, and don't want to putit down.There is only mild profanity, like "s***."There aresexual references, but they are mild.There is a couple in the book whomake love almost daily, but there are no details or graphic descriptions. They are listed like, "She kissed him, and he rolled over and turnedout the light."The reader knows that they made love, but that's asfar as it goes. Roll up the window and hold your nose!
I came here to see if I could unload this stinkburger, which I picked up at Goodwill, on some unsuspecting Trekkie for a buck or two.But apparently its aroma/reputation "precedes it like a fanfare and follows it like an echo," (Betty MacDonald, now *there* was a writer!).D. Summerfield's review says it all.I'll add the one thing I liked about it - an anecdote about Charles Bronson and Jill Ireland.Nimoy's appreciation of Jill's graciousness and beauty is the only thing that might stay my hand from whomping him upside his fat head if I were ever unlucky enough to to find myself in his presence.

And the Poster Boy for Pot Abuse would know, if he hadn't fried his brain, that if you're gonna admit to growing up privileged and then smoking dope for 30 years, ain't nobody gonna feel the least bit of sympathy for your problems. And he's a father?I can't believe anyone ever actually had sex with this guy. Then again, maybe no one did.

There. Yuck.

Another Side
Adam Nimoy did not know his father the way the rest of us did. And, that's why I read this book. I'll admit being a Trekkie led me to read Adam's memoir; Adam knew many would do the same. That's okay. It made us read his story. I learned a little about Mr. Spock, a side I wouldn't have known. More importantly, I learned about the life of a child in the shadow of an ambitious actor. But, in the end, I learned about a man who had a winding path of a career, a family he loved, and an addiction he fought to control--a story not unlike so many people.

Adam told us about his personal struggle through his life, and I feel like that human connection to a total stranger is what forces us to see that we are all the same.

Whether you are a Trekkie or a memoir junkie, this is a good book to consider.

Spock in space fans -- a must read


Such detail, and written with such a personable style -- really brings a favorite charater from my past to real life!

Therapy...I hope it helped
This book was therapy, plain and simple, for the author who is dealing with a lifelong substance abuse problem.It is not a biography or even a memoir and should not be read with that expectation in mind.As therapy, it's well written and I hope, and sense, that Mr. Nimoy got something out of it.However, as an earlier reviewer pointed out, Mr. Nimoy deftly avoids speaking about the things in his life that any subjective reader would be interested in learning more about.The directing career that he professes to love isn't discussed in any detail.The failure of his marriage, which he seems to blame for most of the relationship problems with his children, is not discussed in any detail at all.I have a problem with authors who publish personal memoirs and yet jealously guard the information they wish to share.Mr. Nimoy isn't the first and he certainly won't be the last, however I wish publishers would simply reject the life-edited material and ask the authors to simply talk to their friends or therapists instead of attempting a book.Both they and the reader would be better served.

Shockingly hilarious and poignant
It's ironic because after reading this, I never looked at Mr. Spock on TV the same again.This book did two things for me:
1) It humanized the actor who portrayed Mr. Spock.While the author at times doesn't have nice things to say about his father, it opened my eyes up and reminded me that actors are people too - people with flaws and shortcomings.2) It gave me a glimpse of what it might be like to have a famous father who is loved by everyone.The author tries to connect to his reader how it feels to share your father's love with so many anonymous fans.Poignant is the authors recollection of going to a school event only to have his father spend more time with other people and children than with his own.Also gripping was the author's battles with drugs, alcohol, sex and bad relationships.

The author has a wonderful sense of honesty, and the great thing about this memoir is that it doesn't descend into hate mongering.The author, while blaming his father for many of his own shortcomings, is equally able to blame himself for his own choices.It was also unique to see how the author's own interactions with his children were influenced by his own childhood and how the author tries hard not to repeat his father's failures - sometimes succeeding and other times failing.

Honest, direct, witty, funny, sad...this book is so many things.At times it was pedantic, but definitely worth it because at the end of the book you learn just as much as the author has in writing it and coming to terms with himself.Superb! ... Read more
