5-0 out of 5 stars If you have a romantic bone in your body.
I was born 30 years too late.Otherwise I'd a been a "Stage-door Johnny" for Eleanor Powell. She was -- as Frank Sinatra said in the "That's Entertainment" DVDs -- the greatest, and we are unlikely to ever see such elegant excellence as the best boy-girl tap dance ever done (first the paso-doble to Cole Porter's Begin the Beguine, then the jazz tap version to Artie Shaw's Clarinet.)Alice Levin has captured this in a dandy, easy-reading book laced with pictures of that beautiful hoofer. This is not a dry listing of tidbits, but a glorious feast for those who are young at heart, love musicals. Those were the days just before WWII, but still in the Great Depression, when "The Movies" and its Stars made America Sing! And Dance! And nobody, as is nobody, was better or more athletic a female tap dancer than the delectable, compellingly female and drop-dead gorgeous Eleanor Powell. Alice Levin has chronicled this well.

4-0 out of 5 stars first true lady of dance...pictures and all
if your are big eleanor powell fan which i am, this is the book for you.it has a very detalied accounts of her life from her days on the broadway stage to her comeback in early 60's in las vegas. and her first and only marriage to the actor glenn ford.

unlike the the other autobiography of her by margie schultz which also has a HUGE amount of information on miss powell; this one has lots more pictures of her in action. some never seen before.
and the author had a personal contact with our dancing lady and helped name an award after her.it a great collector's item, one which if you are a tap dancer or any dancer would pass on to your child to keep her name alive in print and purchase her videos so you can she she was truly the first lady of dance...she did it all. ... Product Description
Eleanor Powell began her notable career at age 12, by dancing in a supper show at an Atlantic City hotel. As a teenager, she moved to vaudeville and Broadway, where producers insisted that she become a tap dancer. Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, she was the queen of tap dancing, appearing in some of the best-loved musicals of all time. This book provides detailed information about her career and her many performances, appearances, and awards. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Eleanor Powell - Bio-Bibliography
The written content is very comprehensive but the presentation woefully lacking, especially in a volume offered at this price. There is a single photo, of terrible quality. The text looks as if it were typed on an old manual typewriter. The binding, a cheap-looking slick bright green(NOT what is pictured on the amazon website), would be more suitable for a kids' book from K-Mart.The publisher says the book is now printed only when a copy is ordered, and that they have no control over quality. If you are interested in an exhaustive review of the career of Eleanor Powell and don't care how the volume looks, you will probably be happy with this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Eleanor Powell (a Bio without Life)
This type of book is more like a research paper than a biography of a major star, and one of the great dancers of the period. The Bio is a dry review of who she was and what movies she performed in, but lacks any of the material that makes her a living woman with feeling and talent. It would have been good for a graduate paper for an MA degree, but not much more.Any one can compile facts. The secret of a great biography is the making of the subject come to life.Even as a MA study, I would only give it a B-. ... Five lesbian stories with varied themes including BDSM, menage and older woman... Stories include:

Naseem by N. Vasco:

The last time she saw Naseem, she'd inadvertently been a voyeur - watching the Iranian girl perform an erotic belly dance before making love to another of her girlfriends from secondary school. All these years later, the temptress is back, all grown up, still belly dancing, but this time Naseem only has eyes for her...

The Education of Clarissa by Izzy French:

At a grand party at her country mansion, Clarissa is determined to lose her virginity before her parents marry her off to some hideous cousin. However, when the boy she's set her eyes on is otherwise engaged, her first sexual experience ends up being brief and rough with an older married Lord. Best friend Sylvia is there to console her and to replace the bad memory with something much more pleasurable...

Lessons Learned by Lynn Lake:

Marie hasn't seen Josee since they graduated from high school and went their separate ways to different colleges. But now Josee's going all out to persuade her close friend to transfer. And, if Plan A doesn't work, she's got a secret weapon in the form of her curvaceous dorm-mate, Taylor...

Kaz in the Changing Room by Eleanor Powell:

While trying on dresses for a family party, Kaz is joined by another woman in the changing room. Surely sex doesn't come any better than with a beautiful stranger in a beautiful new dress with the added risk of getting caught? Only, Kaz finds out, when you get caught, it does...

Japanese Schoolgirls by Teresa Joseph:

Everyone has their fantasy type and for her there's no competition: adult Japanese schoolgirls. In fact, she's so hooked on them, she travels all the way to Japan to experience her dream in the flesh. And when she finds an entire club dedicated to her beloved grown-up schoolgirls, she really has found heaven on earth.

Please note, these stories have been previously published in a full anthology entitled Girl Fun 1.

4-0 out of 5 stars A sexy read that celebrates female beauty
These stories are hot! I liked the variety, from interracial encounters to steamy student relationships.

"Naseem" celebrates exotic female beauty as the narrator is fascinated with an old friend - an Iranian belly dancer.

"The Education of Clarissa"is a first-time encounter between two students. I liked that there was an element of power that Clarissa, with her aristocratic background, displays, but that once the clothes come off, so do distinctions of rank. They become simply two young women, exploring and enjoying each other.

"Lessons Learned" is a fun tale of corruption between students that are old friends. The sex is hot and the ending has a nice twist.

"Kaz in the Changing Room" is quite different from the other stories. Public sex with a stranger, light discipline, and a twist ending make this a steamy and kinky read.

"Japanese Schoolgirls" was my personal favorite of these stories. It's not my usual fetish, but the story was engrossing, the action sexy, and I loved the intercultural aspect. The halted English spoken by the schoolgirls is really cute.

These stories celebrate female beauty through a variety of situations and relationships. They are definitely worth a look. ... Read more
