Product Description
Priscilla Beaulieu Presley inspires morbid and fervid curiosity. She was a schoolgirl, barely 14 years old, when Elvis Presley plucked her from a US Air Force base in Germany to be his child bride. Her own book, published in 1986, ended with their divorce in 1972, and this biography presents information on events occurring after that date and on the years following Elvis's death, on how Priscilla took control of Graceland, on her daughter Lisa-Marie, on their indoctrination into the cult of scientology, and on Lisa's secret marriage to Michael Jackson. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars My New Favorite Book
For starters, I may have enjoyed this book so much because, having dated someone well known, I found it very relateable. Her point of view and desire to please Elvis was eerie to read. I am a big Elvis fan and enjoyed the close look into his life, but I must admit that the type of man Elvis was didn't come as a surprise to me.

If you've ever been in a relationship where you were so consumed by someone you molded yourself to please them then this book will sound very familiar.

5-0 out of 5 stars Priscilla writes a better version of "The King and I"
I'm no "Elvis-Priscilla" expert, but I think some people aren't cognizant of something: In 1981, "Elvis", a bio of Presley written by Albert Goldman, was released. I've read the book, and its sequeland, say what we will, Goldman was a briliant writer, but he totally despised Elvis, and boy- did it show! ANYway, Priscilla also read the book, and was deeply upset. If you've not read it, it calls Elvis a child molester, a pervert, a junkie, a coward, a racist, a lousy husband, father, and singer, basically, a terrible human being. Priscilla said, "I just CAN'T let this be a book my daughter reads about her father." So, "Elvis and Me" was a REACTION to Goldman's acid account. Did Priscilla gloss over her own misconduct? I don't think so- because she even admits to an affair that no one, including Elvis, knew about, with her dance instructor, Steve Peck. As for Mike Stone, the karate instructor, EVERYone knew about that one, again, including Elvis- and no one, not even the "Memphis Mafia" confronted her about it. In fact, they ALL, even Priscilla's detractors within the group, say that they did not blame her for cheating on Elvis, a few of them even covering for her whenever her husband couldn't find her. That should tell us something, if nothing else will.
One of the people who reviewed this tome was outraged that Priscilla wrote about her indecision regarding giving birth to Lisa Marie- please don't get me wrong- I am pro-life, totally against abortion, so, it bothered me,too. But you have to look at Priscilla's mind-set at the time. Elvis forbade her to use any form of birth control, and Lisa Marie was conceived on their wedding night. Priscilla was afraid that if she had a child, Elvis would not allow her to travel with him, would have affairs with slender women, and would lose interest in her sexually, as he'd told her beforehand that he had a serious "Madonna complex"- that is, he'd never been able to make love to any woman who'd given birth. These were Priscilla's fears, and, as any Elvis fan knows, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM CAME TRUE! Elvis even asked her for a separation when she was seven months along... She's recently said(in the book "Elvis by the Presleys") that it was never the same after that.
People also speak of Priscilla's "coolness", and lack of emotion. Well, look at her background. She was a military child, moving from base to base and even country to country. She'd form attachments, only to never see the person, place or thing again. I DO agree, she is very guarded in interviews, and she doesn't often show emotion- which is precisely why Elvis was so crazy about her! He was a man that was met with screams just for walking into the room, and was mobbed and clawed at every time he stepped out the door- naturally, he chose women who were the polar opposite of that behavior (think Ginger Alden). Re: the lack of emotion, he said he had enough problems of his own without dealing with someone else's. So, she learned to internalize her true feelings, which resulted in an ulcer while she was a teen-ager- not that it's Elvis' fault.
Alot of the reviews are contradictory, as well. People chastise Priscilla for sanitizing her image, yet they criticize her for revealing too much dirt. Well, which is it?
After all is said and done, Priscilla Presley had to be a special person in my mind, if for no other reason that Elvis picked her. There's a reason we're intrigued by Michelle Obama, Jackie O., Coretta Scott King, et al. We subconciously know that great men usually marry great women. He was the King, she was once upon a time his Queen, and Suzanne Finstad (author of "Child Bride") and other people who are bitter over Priscilla landing Elvis need to just get over it! It's history, and history cannot be changed.
Priscilla once said that she and Elvis were just two people, and two very young people at that. They were not trying to be icons or live up to some mystical "Camelot" , and I think she was right on the money (no pun intended, folks!) We, the reader, the students of history, often forget that we have an advantage the people we're studying did not have. We KNOW the way the story will end, and WHEN it will end. Priscilla had no idea that Elvis would die within five years of their divorce, and that he would never re-marry- for all she knew, he might have gone on to have 6 more wives and 8 more children. She didn't have to maintain a caring relationship with him after the divorce. She didn't cite adultery, or drug abuse in her divorce petition; in fact, she let Elvis be the petitioner. She really could have blown his world sideways, before the "Bodyguard" book happened, yet she didn't.
I am grateful to anyone who shares their story of life with Elvis, because it gives me a picture of the man himself, piece by piece. We should solicit the stories of his intimates now more than ever, as time is robbing us of first-hand witnesses to his life.
FYI: did you know that, aside from Jerry Schilling's recent book, "Me and a Guy Named Elvis" (which I've already read, of course!)that the only book Lisa Marie has ever read about her famous father IS her mother's book? She has said that she doesn't want anyone else's opinions about her father to contaminate her own memories of him- I think that would make Elvis happy, don't you? His biggest fear surrounding the release of "Elvis- What Happened?" was "What will my daughter think when she grows up and reads this?" Rest in Peace, dear Elvis. She never did.

5-0 out of 5 stars It is what it is!
Would it have been better if Priscilla had written only good things about Elvis and nothing more?Sure Ms Cilla probably glosses over her own faults but I didn't feel she was bashing Elvis with some of the painful things that she described. For people saying that she knew what she was getting into are they forgetting how young Priscilla was at the time and even Elvis himself?Love is never easy especially when you're not mature enough to handle the kind from someone who already belongs to the world.Elvis belonged to the world and this would never allow him to be a normal man who could live a normal life with any woman. It couldn't have been easy and falling for Elvis would not have been hard for too many women or girls for that matter so why is it so hard to believe that this girl wouldn't have fallen hard?Critics of this book are only looking at the reasons why she left or the affairs she left out and all that but she does describe a loving side of Elvis and I felt his frustration and loneliness not evil.I love Elvis but we can't blind ourselves to the man's faults for he was human and we all have a dark side to our personalities.I don't feel this book tainted Elvis if anything it humanized him more. But living with the drugs his party type lifestyle, his own infidelities (im not justyfing hers i mean two wrongs dont make a right) being away for months on tours, then no longer making love after their daughter was born, no marriage was going to survive this. She was right to say what she did on how they were living separate lives.Nope a marriage will never survive this but there was no one to blame but circumstance.

4-0 out of 5 stars I really enjoyed it.
I found myself not able to put this book down.I admit that a lot of the information I had already heard before. It was still really good.A lot of reviewers on here say that it's made up lies, but how do they know, they weren't there.I know a lot of stuff was left out of the book and it even says so at the very end that she left out a lot.It could have went into more detail in some areas but it was still a good read.

1-0 out of 5 stars The best part of the book is the pictures
I read the first chapter in the bookstore before making the decision to purchase it. I told myself I wasn't going to give Priscilla one red cent if she was negative about Elvis. The first chapter was basically the ONLY chapter in the book where she wasn't painting a bad picture of Elvis. This book infuriated me - I finished it, but regretted purchasing it. The only reason I didn't throw the book away is because of the pictures. Would not recommend to an Elvis fan. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars More insight into Priscilla Presley
The only reason I read this book, was to understand the person who is Priscilla Presley a little more.Although, the book was obviously written for the money, it did give some interesting information.Priscilla is and always has been out for herself, and whatever she can get with the Presley name.I always suspected that, and I believe it even more now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful love story
You gotta love this guy. He is so honest and down to earth.I enjoyed reading about him more then Priscilla. Anyway, he has an easy way of writing, and the book is very interesting. It is a beautiful love story, and he doesn't sugar coat anything. About himself or Priscilla. Back then, I think those two were half crazy, what with the affairs, the drugs, and carrying on. I read Elvis and Me, and I am glad I read this also. Oh, Edwards was a bit obsessed with Elvis back then, so prepare yourself. In the end, Priscilla got what she wanted, she always has. She broke his heart, I felt so sorry for him.

3-0 out of 5 stars "Me, Myself, and I"
A confession: I didn't finish this whole book, for the same reason I didn't finish a roast beef sandwich that contained a hair at lunch yesterday; it was simply too disgusting to continue . I DID read about 90% of it, but you don't have to examine every item in the trash bin, down to the bottom, once you've ascertained that it's garbage. This guy KILLS me, and, by his book's third chapter, I wanted to return the favor.
Michael Edwards dated Priscilla Presley from 1978 to 1985. It took her almost seven years to figure out what I did in about two days: this man was nothing but an egotistical, shallow, opportunistic interloper. Poor Lisa Marie Presley. In the books photo section (and are there ever PHOTOS- Good Grief....these two just LOVED having their pictures taken; I quit counting at thirty-five), little Lisa looks sad, but also, she has a resigned look on her face, sort of a "if you can't beat'em, join 'em" kind of smile. Mr. Edwards DOES present some interesting tidbits about Priscilla, and even Elvis himself, which is the only reason I gave this book "***". Some of them:
--Edwards was with Priscilla on the first anniversary of Elvis' death, and he recorded that Priscilla was deeply depressed during that time. She brought Edwards with her to help clean Elvis' Palm Springs bungalow in preperation for sale. It was exactly the way Elvis left it on his last vacation, and Edwards describes finding "soiled bed linens and towels" . He calls the stains on them"bodily fluids", though he doesn't say how he knows this fact. While Priscilla is sadly gathering her ex-husband's personal things, all Edwards seems interested in is pawing through the King's treasures, and asking if he can have some of them, meanwhile splashing Elvis'fermenting bottle of "Brut" all over himself, even though he hated that particular brand of cologne.
--Although several sources, and (some reviwers on this site) state that Edwards was blatantly bi-sexual, there are no signs of that lifestyle in this book. On the contrary, he seems obsessed with every female he meets, especially Priscilla. While they were living together, he chased everything in heels. He and Priscilla cheated on each other repeatedly. He with whomever he was working with (he was a male model, and according to him, THE most in demand model of his- or any other- time); she with everyone from a fellow student in her acting class, to Julio Iglesies, capped by a humiliating, drunken one night stand with a very young Richard Gere, who never called her or responded to her calls, ever again. Edwards even details for the reader the indignant, baffled letter Priscilla wrote to Gere.
--The "Bombshell" in this bio is that Michael Edwards very plainly states that he became attracted to and subsequently "fell in love" with a pre-teen Lisa Marie, going so far as to sneak into her bedroom at night, and peering under her covers. Lisa pretended to be asleep, but the next morning, she and her mother good-naturedly confronted Edwards about it, who "explained" that he was feeling "down", and he wanted to just "look at" the child. Excuse me? Priscilla and Lisa dropped the subject; nevertheless, Priscilla told Michael that she would no longer be leaving her daughter alone with him , which she didn't.
--Priscilla became pregnant with his baby, and they debated over what to do about it. He half-way wanted the baby, but there were both worried about their "careers". He left the decision in Priscilla's hands, and she had an abortion. He wrote that they both cried, all the way home, and that they were profoundly depressed for months afterwards, lamenting that they should have had the child.
Edwards makes many observations, some of which astounded me, if only for his boundless temerity in making them. 1) He felt that he was "annointed" to "take Elvis' place"- a direct quote. He felt fate wanted him to be Lisa's surrogate "Daddy", and he even relates a "vision" in which Elvis lets him know that it was time for him (Elvis) to "let go", and let Edwards step in. Can you imagine the Elvis Presley we know and love, telling another man that he would gracefully "bow out" of his ex-wife and daughter's lives just so Edwards' dreams could come true? I'll bet Elvis cut a dance jibe from "Jail House rock"in his grave when he "heard" that one!
The saddest thing in the book, to me, is the adolescent life of Lisa Marie. She depended on an elderly couple in her mother's employ for some measure of stability, and spent most evenings in their quarters, watching T.V., and just talking. Lisa was heart-broken when they tendered their resignation, the couple explaining to Priscilla that they felt there had been "too many changes" in the past year and a half for their comfort. This maid and butler took an interest in Lisa, and upon learning of their departure, she told her mother that "they quit because of Michael!" When Priscilla said that they would have quit anyway, Lisa wandered the house for quite a while afterwards, often asking, "What am I going to do NOW? Who am I going to talk to. What am I going to DO?"
Though Edwards had his own career, both in modeling, and obtaining bit parts in movies (you may remember him as "Uncle Ted", the man little Christina caught making out with her mother, Joan Crawford in "Mommie Dearest") he freely admits that he adapted to the new "high life" very quickly, and very well. He spent Priscilla and Lisa's money unashamedly- which, in reality, means he spent Elvis' money on purusing his various interests. So, when did invested in shady deals and failed, it wasn't his shirt he lost- it was Lisa's.....
In reading this, I was reminded of the story from the "New Twilight Zone": a pathetic, lonely mis-fit of a man idolizes a beautiful star, played by "Vanity". He was granted three wishes, which he used to win her love. He asked for his own physical beauty, which made her want him. Then, he asked that she fall madly in love with him, which she did. Once her obtained her, however, he STILL wasn't happy, and one long night, "Vanity" inspired a revelation, by saying, "You're unhappy? You wanted to be with me, didn't you?"
"No", he says, the awful truth dawning on him as he answered," I don't WANT you.. I want to BE you!"- whereupon his last wish is granted, and he becomes a grotesque version of Vanity. I kept thinking of that show, unseen for twenty years, while reading Edward's bizarre observations. He didn't want PRISCILLA, he wanted ELVIS- and she and Lisa were the closest heever came. Then, he veers off by comparing himself to Elvis, in every way, from his hair, to a character Elvis had played in one of his 1960's movies-- "prophetically"(yet another photo caption reads)a character named "Mike Edwards"! Spooky, huh? Gimme a break, fella...Elvis played a character by the name of "Mike Stone", too. Was Priscilla running off with the REAL Mike Stone "prophetic", too?Anyway, it dawns on him that he wants to BE "Elvis", so he begins to study his life and the two girls Elvis loved, with a tenacity that was almost frightening. It got disturbing, after a while.
I looked Edwrads "up" on IMDb, and he's basically dopped out of sight since the late '80s, after revealing to his ex Priscilla (who left him for Marco Garibaldi, father of her son)that this book was in the works. He'd promised her that he WOULDN'T write a book or give interviews about their relationship- yet she was flabbergasted when he did it anyway. "Gee, Priscilla," I thought, "He's breaking his word? Why, you'd think the guy had NO MORALS!"
If you're interested in Priscilla Presley, RAW and uncensored, and are curious about her true feelings about Elvis (she really did love him, very much), then this is the book for you. Edwards describes her sexual proclivities, her nominal, rare use of hard drugs, like cocaine, and her parenting methods-- she once "jumped on" Lisa Marie for sneaking around and lying to her. She grabbed her hair and kept slapping her, all outside. A neighbor called the police, and, according to Edwards, Priscilla "instructed" her daughter to tell the cops she was "fine".
I'm not privy to what goes on in Micahel Edwards' head (God be praised), but after reading this, I DO believe that he misguidedly thought he loved Lisa and her mother, and that he admired and idolized Elvis-- but that he was discontent just being one of the King's subject; he wanted to be near the King, and eventually, he wanted to BE the King. As has been written, "Envy so often passes for love...."

3-0 out of 5 stars If you want to REALLY understand Priscilla....
I found this book fascinating for the simple reason that it compliments Child Bride so well and so exactly, at different times and with different men in Priscilla's life. Follow the thread and you will find quite a bit of unsettling truth regarding her motivations, how she used both Elvis and Michael for her own plans and successes... but how this one backfired on her.

Whereas Elvis was an ultimate gentleman who always took the whole blame for everything she claimed as fault, onto him, Michael is no such person. Priscilla gets a taste of her own medicine from this cad who dishes it out and humiliates her with the rawness of his disclosures.

Without ever meaning to be, it is a fine kind of touche as well, to her book, Elvis And Me, whose lies enclosed there surely would have hurt Elvis even further, had he been alive to read it.

What woman who cares, leaves her teen daughter alone for weeks with a boyfriend like Michael?!?!?? Thank God Lisa has Elvis' "knowing things" nature, and walked away safely.

This book is only a fair read, because Michael actually shows how immature and of questionable character he is....but it does have value as it does show that Priscilla knew this, too, yet wanted what she wanted, and what she could get from him, over any of those concerns.

It brought me to tears to see how when Elvis visited Priscilla just before he died, she rebuffed him, even when he was so sick. Elvis was such a kind gentle spirit, truly only wanting to bring people joy. He had just asked to be held, saying he was so lonely. Very few people indeed, ever returned the favor of comfort Elvis bestowed on those who needed it - but there was little sent to Elvis, as he was surrounded by takers.

I believe this book somehow helps balance the story of "poor little me" that Priscilla puts out there with some truth about the purposeful way in which she has planned her life and her success in the limelight. Read it directly after reading Child Bride for the eye opening similarities. Then read Elvis and Me, and you'll clearly see the lies.....

Then weep for Elvis (or rejoice that he's finally out from under that mess). He deserved so much better, and Michael says it here, without even realizing it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Intimate view of Priscilla...
This book is written by Michael Edwards- aformer top male model and actor - who was Priscilla Presley's live in lover from 1978 to 1984.
It is the story from his perspective of their romance and his life with Priscilla.
It is written with unflinching honesty and it flows easily with its smooth, unpolished prose.
He blames the stress and problems they had in their relationship to the strain of living under the Presley name and legend, but after reading the book, it seems to me that their issues were caused more by a constant stream of drinking and fast living in Elvis's shadow.

I'm sure that Priscilla must have been enraged by this book as it holds back almost nothing, and after reading it, I can't say I blame her.

The most controversial part of the book and what I'm sure must have caused a small uproar when it came out back in 1988 , was Edwards own admission that hehad romantic and sexual feelings for Lisa Marie when she was in her early teens.
I'm shocked that Mr.Edwards actually came out and admitted that.
He must have been raked over the coals about that when doing the inevitable publicity that one does for a book like this.

As an interesting footnote,I did an internet search using Michael Edwards name and came across a couple of interviews with Lisa Marie from 2003 and his name was brought upand she had an angry reaction, called Mr. Edwards a few choice names and said that she had hated him when he was with her Mother , which is a different picture than is painted in the book.

Of course this is a one sided view of events, but I'd recommend this book to anyone, who would like a glimpse into Priscilla's life in the immediate years following Elvis's death. ... Read more

The myth-shattering account of the most famous and most taboo love story in rock-and-roll history

Child Bride reveals the hidden story of rock icon Elvis Presley’s love affair with fourteen-year-old Priscilla Beaulieu, the ninth-grader he wooed as a G.I. in Germany and cloistered at Graceland before marrying her to fulfill a promise to her starstruck parents. Award-winning biographer Suzanne Finstad perceptively pieces together the clues from candid interviews with all the Presley intimates—including Priscilla herself, along with hundreds of sources who have never before spoken publicly—to uncover the surprising truths behind the legend of Elvis and Priscilla, a tumultuous tale of sexual attraction and obsession, heartbreak and loss.

Child Bride, the only major biography of Priscilla Beaulieu Presley, unveils the controversial child-woman who evolved from a lonely and sexually precocious teenager kept by the King of Rock and Roll into a shrewd businesswoman in control of the multimillion-dollar Elvis Presley empire, a rags-to-riches saga of secrets and betrayals that began when Priscilla was only three years old.Amazon.com Review
With three steamy books by the women in Elvis's life already published (1997's Elvis: In the Twilight of Memory by June Juanico; Priscilla Beaulieu Presley's 1991 tell-all, Elvis and Me; and Joyce Bova's Don't Ask Forever: My Love Affair with Elvis), can the world absorb another? Suzanne Finstad, author of Child Bride: The Untold Story of Priscilla Beaulieu Presley, certainly hopes so.

With as many darkly intriguing details as the chambers of Graceland, Finstad--journalist, lawyer, and author of two true-crime books--defends her own theories on the complexity and grit of the former Mrs. Presley. Why did she conspire with her mother to keep her paternity a secret? How old was she when she took up with the King? Suzanne Finstad treats us to her own exhaustively researched version of the facts. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally the truth comes out
I always had my doubts about Priscilla, and this book validated everything I always thought, and more.I highly reccomend this book, to all who want to truly understand the truth behind the myth.I think it is so sad, that so many people have used Elvis and his name to benefit themselves, including Priscilla. I think she actually topped them all. This book was higly researched and I believe it to be truthful.

I have read every Elvis book out there & I am a true Elvis fan, And this book; "Child Bride: The Untold Story of Priscilla Beaulieu Presley" as one of the BEST I have read. It is backed with proof & sure makes for the truth FAR more then Priscilla's book called "Elvis & me", she is caught lying threw out this whole book, (she was interviewed for this book along with Curry Grant, the man who says she had sex with him in exchange for him to introduce her to Elvis). I have never taken the time to write reviews however, I read all of your reviews before I ever buy a book, So I wanted to do the same in return, hope it helps. A MUST READ...

5-0 out of 5 stars Hmmmmmmmm
I just finished this book. I just want to say that the book was very well written. It was interesting to see events told(figuratively) from the "Priscilla" perspective. If all that is written here is true, I wondered at different points in the book what must have been going through her mind at the time. I dont think anyone is going to base their moral compass on the cheating angle, because both Elvis and Priscilla did it.I do have to question after reading this if she ever truly loved him or not.She does get an "A" in my book for keeping E's empire alive and flourishing. She comes across as self serving and even if she is/was, just as the situation with the Memphis Mafia books, who the hell is anyone to really judge.I wasnt there, I dont know what was going through her mind at the time. Overall, this is a great book and definetely provides food for thought.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Riveting!

5-0 out of 5 stars Soooo cool!
We just got back from our first trip to Memphis/Graceland 2 weeks ago and my husband surprised me with this for our anniversary. It is AMAZING.The attention to detail is amazing and it felt like we were back in Graceland. My favorite is the kitchen because the spices in the kitchen reminded me of when I was a kid and I wanted so bad to peek in the cupboards and this book allows you to do that! You have to be careful opening the pages but it's worth the extra care needed. This is a great gift for an Elvis fan!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating Book
Son bought this for me for Christmas. It is the most realistic, fun, and well phtograped book I have ever seen. Not for children, as they might tear it, but you literally walk thru the mansion and get to examine every room in the house. Lots of 3-d images, pulldowns and flaps. Lots of great facts and photos too. This is a masterpiece of a book, hoard it carefully as evryone you know that sees this book will want to take it home. Beautifully illustrated, and if you can't make the trip to Graceland, this is absolutly the next best thing to being there. Book is colorful, vibrant and you'll go thru it time and time again. My 3 yr old daughter loves it, for the popups, but I handle the book. A must have for any Elvis fan, collector, or just for a super fun book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Gotta love the King!
I purchase this item recently and just love it for the quirkiness of it all! I've had friends and family look through it when they visit and it is just a great little coffee table conversation piece. It really is well planned out and the 'Pop-up' side of things does make you feel like a child again. There is a few little surprises that I didn't expect when I ordered it but I don't want to ruin it for anyone interested! I found the story to be enjoyable and it's something different. Thumbs up to the creators of this book because it has bought a little smile to everyone who I have shown even if they aren't into Elvis at all- something which I can't understand really. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Very informative book!
I found this to be a very interesting read, I'm a huge fan of Priscilla Presley and I thought this book made her shine more than she already does! I actually read it twice!!! To me it displayed her compassion for Elvis. I only wished she had given him a second chance as he had asked her to in one of their last conversations!!! I Highly recommend this book!

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed
I very disappointed to say I did not enjoy this book. When I heard of it's arrival I immediatley called the book store to have it reserved for me. As soon as I got home I sat down to read only to find out that what seemed to me to be a book to bash Priscilla Presley. I have been a huge fan of Elvis Presley for 12 years and through that have gotten to read about Priscilla especially Elvis and Me and have gotten to respect her trumendously. I've read Michael Edwards book and this book seems to have almost begin where he left off. By himself.
I strongly suggest that if you are a Priscilla or Elvis fan to not read this book.

Product Description
For the first time, the inside story of legendary entertainer Elvis Presley’s life as a husband, father, son, cousin, friend, spiritual seeker — Priscilla and Lisa Marie Presley, and other family members, come together to memorialize our greatest star in this stunningly illustrated companion to a major television special and longer-form documentary.

Elvis by the Presleys is a uniquely fascinating treasure and serves as the essential companion to a major television special on CBS and, from Sony BMG, a longer-form documentary DVD and its related CD. Culled from hours of new family interviews conducted for the television special and DVD (much of it appearing exclusively in this book), enhanced with Elvis quotes, and illustrated with private family photographs and images of personal memorabilia from the archives of Graceland/Elvis Presley Enterprises, Elvis by the Presleys is an extraordinary document about an extraordinary figure.

In all, the book is the compelling result of a historic gathering of voices of those who not only witnessed from the wings Elvis Presley’s public life, but also knew the superstar out of the spotlight. His former wife Priscilla Presley, their daughter Lisa Marie Presley, his cousin Patsy Presley Geranen, Priscilla’s parents, and members of the combined and extended families sensitively and candidly share their intimate perspective on the real person, while at the same time celebrating one of America’s greatest stars.

As Priscilla Presley puts it in Elvis by the Presleys, “Who can think of Elvis without thinking of Graceland?” Here Graceland is seen as a teeming family retreat, where the kitchen was the center of operations; where tag football games were played in the yard; where folks drove golf carts up and down the hills; and where Elvis spent many of his happiest times.

Elvis by the Presleys reveals life at Graceland like never before. We witness the arc of his love affair with Priscilla; Elvis as a father to his adored Lisa Marie; his obsessions and passions; and the strength of his musical legacy, which continues unabated to this day. There are Christmas cards here, too; contracts and invoices; selections from Lisa Marie’s childhood scrapbook; and even a picture of the champagne bottle (signed) from Elvis and Priscilla’s wedding.

Here, now, is the tumultuous story of the life of a lovely yet complex man; a portrait of the career of a brilliantly accomplished yet often frustrated artist; an insider’s tale of enduring love, related with warmth and unguarded candor . . . and a story told the way only a family can tell it.

2-hour CBS special airs May 2005

4-hour Sony BMG documentary DVDand its companion CD in stores May 2005

The DVD is a longer-form presentation of the footage edited for the special. Both the special and the DVD are comprised of the family interviews, private home movies, performance footage and interviews, and photography — some of the material rare, some never before available to the public.

The CD of Elvis’s music features Elvis classics, hidden treasures, rarities and family favorites.Amazon.com Review
Think of Elvis by the Presleys as the ultimate souvenir guide from your tour of Graceland. The 256 pages are packed with family photos, reminisces, and still-life photography of Elvis's possessions. The book is also a companion volume to the multimdedia event that brings the personal side of Elvis to the masses from the recollections of just six family members: wife Priscilla; daughter Lisa Marie; cousin Patsy; along with Priscilla's mom, dad, and sister. Many of the words written here were not in the TV show but one assumes what will make this a keeper are the photos. Along with candid shots, there are stills of the home movies seen on the CBS special (and subsequent--and expanded--DVD), and the still life shots by Henry Leutwyler get your mind racing. Here one can dwell on Elvis's guitar and think of all the music that came out of it. You can spy his phonograph with the record that was on it when he died, his wallet, an autographed Bible, his first contract, a hand-drawn football play, even his FBI badge along with pristine views inside Graceland. Some shots seem like filler (a boot, "with the original mud," Lisa Marie's crayons), but the overall impression is you are viewing pieces from the Museum of Cool, circa 1970. Several of Pricilla's passages and some of the images allude to Elvis's dark side: the massive reference book on pills and three guns are shown (plus the TV Elvis shot) looking like items from a murder investigation. Ultimately, do we really learn anything new about Elvis? Perhaps not, but there are several segments where Priscilla (the main voice) draws us in with her emotional recollections. The book (and program) is never better than telling the courtship in Germany when a homesick solider found an older-than-her-age 9th grader. Elvis by the Presleys does not try to be compressive; it succeeds as a warmer, more heartfelt tribute to The King. --Doug Thomas ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Everybody Loves Elvis
The Graceland staff is usually quite protective of the carefully manicured image they present of Elvis-for instance, you'll NEVER see pictures of "The King" taken after 1975, either at the Mansion, nor in any book authorized by EPE- the unspoken rule, supposedly is "'75 and holding", which refers not only to the cut-off year for the pictures of Elvis on display, but also refers to the number of pounds, "over 100" that Elvis is allowed to be, in any authorized product bearing his image. .... so, you won't see them in this Elvis Presley Enterprises produced book, either, since Priscilla Presley is at the helm. But, when it comes to being frank and forthright in the TEXT and interviews,to my delight, they let it all hang out.
For the first time, Lisa Marie Presley shares her memories of her father in great detail. From Elvis shooting out the T.V. screen (which she found, and still finds, "really funny!"), to the day he let her ride her horse INTO the HOUSE, much to Grandma "Dodger's" displeasure, to, sadly, the last thing he said to her, in the wee hours of the morning of August 16 (It was, BTW, "Go to bed", because he caught her still awake at almost 3:00am). Elvis' precious "Yeesa" answers every question and subject put to her, no surpise here, in her own brutally honest fashion.
The big surprise here is Priscilla- who opens up WAY more than she ever has, and I've seen alot of her interviews. She's always been known as "reserved" or "guarded" in the journalistic circuit- but not here! Maybe because her sister, daughter, and parents were there with her, and giving true, sometimes emotional takes on their memories of Elvis Presley, she decided to let it flow, too-- I don't know. Surprisingly, she even includes photo-copies of personal notes (from Graceland's archives)that she wrote to Elvis from Germany, once he was discharged from the Army, andback home in our Country(Elvis had saved them, all those years- awww)- and if you want to know what REALLY happened when Elvis asked her for a "trial separation", you'll find it here. I always thought that, in her auto-biography of life with the King of Rock, she took his request a little too calmly, in light of the fact that she was seven months pregnant with Lisa! She reveals here, first time ever, the tantrum she threw ("I went storming out of the room!").
The pictures are brilliant, and in the sharpest focus I've ever seen- I was tempted to cut some out, and frame them- but, logic prevailed. Some included are Elvis' real GOLD PLATED telephone, his personal wallet (along with its contents), and hand-written notes from him to members of the Memphis Mafia.
The ending is sad, pretty much like the real story is... Elvis' last known hand-written note, was not to any of his flesh and blood "men", who had almost all either been fired, written negative tell- alls,or had back-stabbed him in many other ways, but to his God: "Everybody is gone now..." he wrote, from his penthouse suite at the Hilton- in a note pilfered from his washroom trashcan by a maid and recently sold at auction. "I will try to sleep... I don't know who I can turn to anymore.. Be still, and know that I AM GOD.. Help me, oh Lord, to know the right thing..."
It was comforting (at least for me) to know that, fundamentally, Elvis never really changed. He started out as atwenty-one year old humble, lonely, God-fearing man who was trying his best to "do right"- and, he went out, twenty-one years later, the same way. This book is so intimate, it TRULY makes you feel close to Elvis- so close,in fact, you want to reach him. Reading towards the end, I found myself saying, "Your fans loved you, Elvis- WHY didn't you turn to us? We would have been there; we would have understood... because you always did the "right thing" by us; that's why we're STILL here..."

Much is being written about Buddy Holly and Elvis Presley long after their deaths. Here in Lubbock, there is a constant battle with Maria Elena Holly, Buddy's widow.Elvis' family come off as saints by comparison.

Product Description
Elvis Presley made more money in his lifetime than any other performer in history. Yet, when he died, his estate was nearly bankrupt. In Elvis Inc., author Sean O'Neal reveals the abysmal condition the estate was in when Elvis died, and how Elvis Presley Enterprises turned the estate into the huge success it is today, raking in more than $100 million a year.

Here is a glimpse of what's revealed in Elvis Inc.:
Why the second floor of Graceland is off-limits to the public
Why Elvis never toured outside the United States
How much Elvis' relationship with Colonel Tom Parker cost himAmazon.com Review
Just as the King of Rock n' Roll will never really die, sowill his financial empire continue to fascinate. Part way between abiography of the musical icon and a business book, Elvis Inc.recounts the fiscal rise of the legend and details the problems andpossibilities that later developed with the massive estate he leftbehind. Penned with the sensitivity of a fan and the perception of abusiness writer, Sean O'Neal recounts how Presley's fortunes crashedand burned and then were resurrected to previously unimagined heights-- even after the King had abdicated his position in the materialworld. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars The Elvis Empire uncovered
ELVIS INC. is one-stop shoppingfor anything to do with Elvis and money. All but the first chapter deal with events after Elvis' death. Especially good are the sections on the estate's lawsuit against manager Parker in the early 1980s, and on the stratospheric rise of Graceland afternear-bankruptcy in the two yearsafter Elvis died. There is more detail inthis book on these subjects than I have seen anywhere else. Toward the endI did feel that the book loses a little focus, and is not quite aspertinent asthe first half. As, O'Neal goes off on sometangents, suchas the marriage of Lisa Marie to Michael Jackson. To be fair, though, morerecentevents are just not as salient. But O'Neal keeps it alwaysinteresting. And I love that pink cover - groovy, man!

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting, Informative and a real Eye-opener of EPE
As an Elvis fan, I have read a great number of books about Elvis and his life. What makes this book stand out from the others is the fact that the reader gets a good look at how Elvis Presley, the person has grown intoElvis Presley Enterprises, the money-maker.It is well known by now thatColonel Tom Parker hindered Elvis' career in many ways.Even though hehelped Elvis make it to the top, Elvis had the sheer talent to make it withor without Parker. In this book, it is revealed how much Parker actuallytook from Elvis in the monetary sense. When Elvis died, his estate wasnearly bankrupt due to his lavish spending and poor management of hismoney. But as you realize when you read this book, Elvis PresleyEnterprises has gone to great lengths to make it the money machine it istoday.O'Neal gives details on lawsuits EPE has won and lost and tells youof some of the future plans EPE has in store. There is also a chapter onElvis' only heir, Lisa Marie and there is a detailed account of herinheritance as well as the "relationship" with Michael Jackson. I would recommend this book to anyone, Elvis fan or not.Every page hadsomething interesting and new and I found it hard to put down.

Biographical profile of Elvis Aaron Presley. Presley is the highest-paid dead celebrity, generating $49 million in 2007 from the sale, licensing and distribution of his trademark, image, and music catalogue, and from tours of Graceland, one of American’s most famous historic homes. Yet the King has been dead for more than 30 years! Long live the King! Elvis is an iconic American fixture; other than one impromptu show in Paris while he was on leave from the Army, he never performed outside of North America.
