Product Description
True stories about Acapulco's famous (and infamous) visitors.

If you are a celebrity and have ever visited Acapulco (and who hasn't?), then you have undoubtedly been interviewed by Mike Oliver. Mike got you going and coming. If you did not appear in the pages of the Acapulco News under his byline: "Mike Oliver's Acapulco," you surely appeared in a press release in every newspaper, world wide, serviced by United Press International...usually in both.

Oliver's stories in this book are offbeat. Mike not only paints a historical picture of an Acapulco that few people ever knew, but also sketches a personality side of the famous (and infamous) visitors to this world-famous resort that few fans may have suspected. Visitors such as Joan Crawford, Jimmy Stewart, Johnny "Tarzan" Weissmuller and Frank Sinatra. Sketches that are vivid, uninhibited and unknown, until now...

"Frank Sinatra had a knack for getting in trouble in Mexico. It's hard to understand why. He loved Mexico. He especially loved Acapulco; enough so that he purchased a two-bedroom home in the Las Brisas residential area. But Sinatra, who divorced Ava Gardner here, seemed to find himself in hot water quite often. For example..." ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great even for older kids
All of my kids love this book -- even the older ones. They keep getting the book back out to look at the illustrations because there's just so much to discover. As a parent, I like how the book teaches that friendship can be a great source of inspiration, and that true friendship will not be harmed by an occasional disagreement.

A perfect book for any child with great imagination. And I reckon that's pretty much all of them. ... Read more

Excerpt: The Third Man is a 1949 British film noir directed by Carol Reed and starring Joseph Cotten, Alida Valli, Orson Welles, and Trevor Howard. The screenplay was written by novelist Graham Greene, later becoming his novella of the same name. Anton Karas wrote the score, which used only the zither; its title cut topped the international music charts in 1950. Vienna, devastated and recovering from World War II, is divided into four separate zones, each governed by one of the victorious Allies, and a jointly-administered international zone. American pulp Western writer Holly Martins (Joseph Cotten) arrives seeking an old friend, Harry Lime (Orson Welles), who has offered him the opportunity to work with him there. Arriving at Lime's apartment, Martins discovers that Lime was recently hit and killed by a lorry while crossing the street. Shocked, Martins heads to the cemetery to attend his friend's funeral, where he meets two British Army Royal Military Policemen: Sergeant Paine (Bernard Lee), a fan of Martins's books, and his superior, Major Calloway (Trevor Howard). After the services, Martins accepts an invitation to speak to the members of a local book club, delaying his departure to do so. He is contacted by a friend of Lime's, Baron Kurtz (Ernst Deutsch), who wants to talk about Lime's de...http://booksllc.net/?id=71473 ... Read more
