Product Description
Who thought there was humor and creativity hidden in the Periodic Table of the Elements? Artist Simon Patterson has found it in this endlessly intriguing little book with a black cover, in which he color-codes the symbols for the periodic table and then replaces the name of the element with a well-known person whose initials or spelling somehow match. For example, Br (Bromine) becomes Bertold Brecht, Hf (Hafnium) is Henry Fonda and Tb (Terbium) morphs into Theda Barabut what do these celebrities have to do with their elements? Patterson fills his book with red herrings, mysteries and riddles that test the reader's knowledge and expose the inherent human desire to establish order and meaning out of the least likely material. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars BEST BOOK EVER!!!!!!
I have never read a better book in my life! i cant wait for book5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Three Furies
The Three Furies is a book about adventure, suspense, friendship, daring, and a little love mixed in there. I would reccomend this book to mostly all ages ( after you read the other books of course)

5-0 out of 5 stars Erec Rex book 4
Erec Rex : The Three Furies: is the fourth installment of an eight book series. Once again we are taken to the magical Kingdome of the Keepers.Erec is a teenager who is destined to become King Erec, partly because he is a Prince, one of the royal triplets.Erec was adopted and only recently started learning things about where he came from and his biological family.
Erec has to complete 12 quests in order to become King the bulk of the book centers around one quest that Erec has to do. Erec contuiunes some of his magic lessons from his tutor the Hermit.Erec and some friends also have to rescue a dear friend who was kidnapped by Erec's archenemy Thanatos Argus Baskina.

Those who have read the previous books will not be disappointed. Those who have not read the other three books I think will still be able to get it.Readers will be right there alongside Erec as he is going through his adventures. The book is much longer then the previous books. The book is extremely fast paced.I look forward to reading book 5 which right now is slated to be out fall 2011.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Tree Furies is a must read book
I just finished the book two days after it came out and I think it is a great book for all ages. It is that kind of book that you cant put down and stop reading. There are also some weird twists in this book that can kind of confuse you, but that just makes the book better. Everyone should read this book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Second grade class loves Pinky and Rex!
Wow! We have just the book for second graders. Pinky and Rex and the Bully by James Howe is an interesting book. You should read this book because it teaches the important lesson to be yourself. This is a book about a 7-year old boy named Pinky who gets bullied by a third grader named Kevin because he likes the color pink. Pinky gets scared and confused. He doesn't know if he should change the things in his life that he loves so that the bully won't bother him anymore such as his favorite color, his name and his best friend. We were sad and embarrassed for Pinky when the old lady named Mrs. Morgan came to rescue him from the bully. You should read this book to find out if Pinky changes himself for the Bully. We recommend this book to second graders who hate big bullies. We give this book 5 stars!

5-0 out of 5 stars A perfect lesson for another boy who loves PINK!
My 4 year old loves pink. His room is pink, his stuffed animals are pink. He has often been hurt by thoughtless children AND adults who can't resist pointing out that PINK is a girl color. We encourage him to be himself and enjoy in spite of what any one else thinks. But even our loving support couldn't do what this book does.

It lays the issue out in a clear understandable way. The choice to give up what he loves to suit others and avoid bullying humiliation is painful to read. My boy instantly connected with what Pinky was losing and cried bitterly. When the elderly neighbor perceives the problem and offers her own experience as example we were so relieved. But best of all in the end when Pinky gets his PINK stuff back and confronts the bully. He is no longer selfdoubting. He is prepared to stand up for himself and what he likes. He became a permanent hero for us.

Poignant, without being maudlin or sappy. Well done and Thank you.

4-0 out of 5 stars 4 1/2*Excellent Book for Elementary School Kids
Billy was nicknamed "Pinky" because of his love for the color; even his stuffed animals have a bit of pink somewhere on them. He's got no problem with the name until a school bully begins taunting him, calling him a girl (generally not received well by seven-year-old boys), and generally intimidating him.

Pinky, wondering if he's too old for such a nickname, decides to change his name back to Billy, and give his beloved animals to his sister.Fortunately, an older neighborhood woman teaches him to accept himself as he is:

"It's hard to be different, isn't it, Billy? ....But, believe me, it's worse not to be yourself. Don't change for other people, Billy. Other people will come and go in your life. Do what's right for the one person who will always be with you--yourself."

Her advise, and some newfound assertion by Billy/Pinky helps him out: "Pinky walked straight up to Kevin and poked him in the chest . . . 'I'm not a sissy and I'm not a girl. And if you think so, it just shows how dumb you are.'" OK, so Pinky gets slightly physical, but, overall, this is a fine book for the bullied--and those who bully them.Forty pages long, with lovely soft color illustrations, a non preachy tone, and a nice inter-generational angle. This book really seems to know the seven- year-old's mind. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book on resolving conflict!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book with my pre-schooler. I liked how the author gives us two characters who have a lot of differences, yet are such good friends. The names of the main characters also goes beyond what we might typically think of as boy or girl likes and dislikes. For example, the boy's name is Pinky because he likes the color pink, and the girl's name is Rex because that's her favorite dinosaur. The thing I enjoyed most about this book though was that towards the end they come across a problem where only one dinosaur is left to purchase from the museum gift shop. I really liked how these children learned to resolve the problem on their own and did so creatively! What a wonderful lesson for children to learn! ... Read more

    Product Description

Marc Bolan burst onto the music scene in the late 1960s, an elfin hippie who sang otherworldly tunes about unicorns. Two years later, he formed legendary band T. Rex and pioneered glam rock in Britain. Co-written by Bolan’s first manager, this definitive biography traces Bolan’s life from the early struggles to his emergence as a teen idol on par with the Beatles, to his untimely death at age 29. Written with the cooperation of the Marc Bolan Fan Club and Bolan’s first wife, this book covers every corner of a blazing, too-brief life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Train with a T. Rex
Students of all ages know the name Michael Phelps. Very informative and kid friendly explantions of what it took for Michael Phelps to win 8 gold medals.

1-0 out of 5 stars stick to swimming, Michael
I submitted a review before but I don't see it here. Wanted to see what others wrote. I am terribly disappointed in this book. I spent more time explaining some concepts to my 6 year old son as I read it to him than I did actually reading it to him. He was amused by the pictures and did understand that they were a long distance. This book says ages 4-8 but he simply did not understand the concepts. Anyone else I've showed it to clearly sees that it is a BRAGGING book. He gives no credit to coaches or other trainers, or support from his mother and fans, he did not accomplish his goals alone. I thought surely this book would be about how hard it was to train but how he kept going and how it was worth it in the end. I expected much more from a kids book like this and will not recommend it.. in factactually discourage anyone to buy it. It is a waste. I wanted to give it NO stars.. but had to put something.

5-0 out of 5 stars Phelps is an excellent role model and a real American hero!
This book is great! My son is a huge fan of Michael Phelps, and this is a wonderful book that explains how hard Phelps had to work to win 8 gold metals. This book does a fantastic job of presenting math and numbers to kids.Phelps presents the information in a fun and informative way, ensuring kids can relate to the facts, and can see real world applications for math.My son and I met Phelps during his book signing tour back in December, ("No Limits: The Will to Succeed") and the way Phelps treated my son and all the other kids proved that he is an excellent role model and a real American hero.I am pleased that he wrote this children's book, giving fans of all ages the chance to appreciate what a superstar he truly is.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wow, Phelps has got some brass not gold to be writing a kids book.
