Product Description
DESCRIPTION: Things like this don’t happen to people like us. That’s what Lachlan Harriot thinks as he watches his wife, Susie, led to jail in handcuffs. Yes, Susie, a psychologist, was found covered in blood near the spot where one of her clients appears to have been murdered. But Susie is not a killer, Lachlan thinks. She’s my wife. She’s our child’s mother.

Secrets lurk behind closed doors, however, a dark truth made chillingly clear as Lachlan’s efforts to prove Susie’s innocence uncover an entire secret history--illicit affairs, false identities, unimaginable deception--and this brilliantly acclaimed, page-turning novel speeds toward a conclusion as shocking as it is ingenious. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A book that's much more original than the title or basic concept
In searching for this book after having read it, I encountered a dozen other books with the same title and suspect that if I had searched further, I would have discovered ten times that dozen. Then there's the general concept.A man's wife is convicted of murder and he searches for evidence on which to base an appeal.Yeah, I'm sure there are more than any 120 books with that idea. But don't let that throw you or deter you from reading this spell binding book. While it surely can not be considered a fast paced book, it's one you won't really want to put down once you've started it.It's complex and it stirs one emotionally as you become engrossed with the narrator's story.Bottom line...hey, just read it for yourself.

5-0 out of 5 stars Denise, this is wonderful
I love the writing style.I love the way that she describes settings and situations without getting into paragraphs of description.

The story is wonderfully engaging and rings true. It's easy to develop empathy for the characters and the pace is just enough to keep interest without being too overwhelming.

One to add to your reading list.

4-0 out of 5 stars Her usual dark self
I always enjoy a Denise Mina book, but this one is very different in style. It is written like a journal. It is not only dark, but twisted!Mina fans will like it a lot.

5-0 out of 5 stars DARK AND TWISTED TALE
When a loyal husband and father searches through his wife's personal computer files and papers, he is trying to find evidence of her innocence in the case against her.A case that has resulted in her conviction for the murder of her alleged serial-killer patient and his wife.

So what is the story of Dr. Susie Harriot, and will Lachlan Harriot find what he needs for her appeal?

Sorting through the morass of these files, however, will lead Lachlan to unexpected secrets, twisted truths, and will finally convince him that he did not know his wife at all.

Throughout this story, I found that the best part was not knowing who to believe and untangling the many-faceted aspects of the case.

An intense psychological thriller, Deception : A Novel kept me tuned in until the surprising end, which is why I gave it five stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Deception
This was my first novel from this author and I was quite impressed with her writing style and keen observational skills. She has an ability to get straight to the heart of people and an unique way of bringing her characters personalities to the forefront, thru subtle interaction or quirky mannerisms. I was very impressed. This is not your cat and mouse high drama novel, but a slow progression that kept you wondering. I loved the way things unfolded with the main character's discoveries. It was intriguing and kept me wanting more.I plan on reading her other novels. ... Read more
