5-0 out of 5 stars Just Who Are The Ladies Making All Those B-Movies?
Jewel Shepard took it upon herself to contact a dozen or so of the past and current B-Movie Queens.Jewel's book contains her interviews, along with photos, of some of the most popular B-Movie and "Scream Queens" from the 50's to the present.

Jewel's questions draw out the people behind the images on the screen and gives their insights into the B-Movie business.I found Jewel's interviews funny and interesting. Most of the women knew what they were doing and saw B-Movies as an opening to bigger and better things. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars wow!
i've read this book a few times, and each time it gets better. jewel's amazing one-track mind (hollywood) and sense of humor keeps her sanity through situations that would crumble most of us. it also reveals a lot of ugly truths about hollywood, making me wonder how anyone becomes a star. strangely, i really enjoyed her time spent hiding from the world in montana. this book will make you wish you'd been fortunate enough to know jewel. of course---now we do.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pluck and a drop-dead gorgeous body are a potent combo.
Have you ever wondered what those women posing nude and semi-nude were thinking?Maybe not, but now you can actually find out.Jewel Shepard, trading on a gorgeous body and what can only be called over-the-top spunk, comes up the hard way through the sleaze and grime to actually accomplishjust about everyone's wish, to be in the movies."Gone With theWind" they're not, but bare breasts and lots of action sell prettywell out there, thank you, and Jewel has what it takes and holds her noselong enough to get it done.

The fact that she can write about her earlyexperiences as a stripper with the accuracy only someone who has done itcan gives the book an authenticity rarely achieved elsewhere. And with asense of humor worthy of Job, she manages to impress you and humble you atthe same time.Right on, Jewel!Even though we're just a sea of faces toyou, we're with you all the way.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ever wanted to Run Off to Hollywood to be a Movie Star??
Then you really need to read Jewel Shepard's new book! Jewel Shepard is one of Hollywood's "B-Girls." For those of you who don't know what a B-Girl is, these are the women whose job it is to get partially or fully unclothed as soon after the start of the film as possible. These are also the women whose dream it is to rise to the "A" level in the film industry. This is the level where you'll find actresses such as Julia Roberts, Michele Pfeiffer, etc., etc.

Jewel's book details her ongoing fight to find a decent agent, to get a decent part, in a decent film working with a decent director...without having to get naked for someone to do it. Throughout it all, you don't know whether to laugh or cry at the trials she is forced to endure. Horrors such as movie producers, rainy night shoots, producers, pig excrement, producers, zombies, producers and more producers.

Seriously, I really enjoyed the book, not only because I know the author somewhat, nor for the pictures her publishers "asked" her to include, but for the "stick-to-it" never gonna give up attitude she has. When other people would have sold their stuff and moved back to Milwaukee, Jewel shrugs off the blows and keeps on swinging.

Jewel has a wonderful flow-of-consciousness style of writing, giving the impression she just sat down and started typing. The book lets you in behind the curtains for a "No BS" look at one actress's ongoing quest in Hollywood. It is very entertaining and I found myself unable to put it down. Of course, the fact that she's a gorgeous brunette with a great sense of humor doesn't hurt! ... Read more

Product Description
Prayer is an ordinance of God, and that to be used both in public and private; yea, such an ordinance will bring those that have the spirit of supplication into great familiarity with God; and is also so prevalent an action, that it gets of God, both for the person that prays, and for them that are prayed for, great things. It is the opener of the heart of God, and a means by which the soul, though empty, is filled. By prayer the Christian can open his heart to God, as to a friend and obtain fresh testimony of God's friendship to him - I might spend many words in distinguishing between public and private prayer as also between that in the heart, and that with the vocal voice. Something also might be spoken to distinguish between the gifts and graces of prayer; but as eschewing this method my business shall be at this time only to show you the very heart of prayer, without which, all your lifting up both of hands, and eyes, and voices, will be to no purpose at all.Prayer is a sincere, sensible, affectionate pouring out of the heart or soul to God, through Christ, in the strength and assistance of the Holy Spirit, for such things as God has promised, or according to the Word for the good of the Church, with submission, in faith, to the will of God. 1. For the first of these: it is a sincere pouring out of the soul to God. Sincerity is such a grace as runs through all the graces of God in us, and through all the actings of a Christian, and has the sway in them too, or else their actings are not anything regarded of God, and so of and in prayer, of which particularly David speaks, when he mentions prayer: "I cried unto the Lord with my mouth, and He was extolled with my tongue. If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me " (Psa. 68:18). Part of the exercise of prayer is sincerity, without which God looks not upon it as prayer in a good sense. "And ye shall seek Me, and find Me, when ye shall search for Me with all your heart" (Jer. 29:13). The want o ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars More Delightful and***FANTASTIC*** Adventures Await!
The vain and haughty, quick-witted beloved nanny is back in P.L. Travers's MARY POPPINS COMES BACK.

Poppins takes the Banks children and the reader on more fantastic adventures and meeting her colorful friends, where anything can happen.

From being pulled into plates to welcoming a new addition to the Banks family to an evening in the sky with a circus full of stars, it's wonderful whenever Mary Poppins is around!

Illustrator Mary Shepard is back lending her talents with the great drawings for the book that compliment the wild stories.

The book is perfect for bedtime story-telling and can be enjoyed by kids of all ages. No wonder these books have endured for so long!

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice edition, but book is more of the same
I'm not sure that P. L. Travers' classic, "Mary Poppins" really needed a sequel. She is a beloved character whose crusty exterior hides a heart-of-magical-gold. This 2nd installment is more of the same...she takes the children on magical journeys where they meet amazing people/creatures, and then she denies it ever happened. Each chapter is a stand-alone tale, perfect for bedtime reading to a child. And, just like in the last book (upcoming spoiler!), she leaves again. As before, Travers does a nice job with the characterization, but it just seems repetitive and actually diminishes the special quality of the first book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Poppins review
Book is in excellent condition; will be a gift for my adult daughter who still loves anything connected with Mary Poppins!

4-0 out of 5 stars love it
Marry Poppins comes back in this book.
Before Marry Poppins came back the Bank's life was a mess.
A new Banks child appeared in this book.
Her name was Annabelle.
Marry Poppins is mean.
She leaves at the end.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love these books
I loved all the Mary Poppins books, they really fired my imagination as a child and are now doing it for my daughter. One quick correction to an earlier review, PL Travers has written other books, just not to the same acclaim as the Mary Poppins series ... Read more

Product Description
A collection of poems reflecting the experiences of a little English boy growing up in the early part of the twentieth century.Amazon.com Review
In all likelihood, your mother or father read you these poems and remember their parents reading the same. This collection of poetry by the creator of Winnie the Pooh was first published in 1924. With its companion volume Now We Are Six, the little books became two of the biggest bestsellers in publishing history. Children all over the world have heard about changing the guard at Buckingham Palace; James James Morrison Morrison Weather by George Dupree; the three little foxes who kept their handkerchiefs in cardboard boxes; and, of course, Christopher Robin, named for A.A. Milne's son. Adults and older children will enjoy Milne's poems too, as some of his humor is subtly directed at a more sophisticated audience. But younger children are the ones who love the naughty Mary Jane (lovely rice pudding again?) and the bears on the corners of London's streets. Read these poems aloud and pass along (or start) a family tradition. (Ages 5 to 9) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous toddler's book
I was read this book when I was a little girl almost 40 years ago, so I had expectations about what this book would look like - and the book is absolutely perfect - just as I remember it. I am so excited to be able to share this amazing memory of me and my dad reading me this book with my little girl now. Just gorgeous, a book which leaves so much to the imagination and the way the reader emphasises different things, a world away from being told how to interpret things like we are today. Awesome, this is where the love of reading begins.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Essential When We Were Very Young
Here's the nicest edition of When We Were Very Young since its 1924 publication! With a font reminiscent of the original, and Ernest H. Shepard's gently colored illustrations similarly-placed amid the text, this book is a joy to handle and peruse.Of course, this volume lacks the pencil and crayon embellishments that my sisters and I added to our mother's original edition, but the soft and urgent messages - and all the pleasures - have been beautifully preserved for a new generation. It's gratifying to be able to reread and recite and relive these poems that voice the essential concerns of children everywhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars When we were veryyoung - by A.A. Milne
I bought this book as I hadhad it as a child, and was trying to remember one or two of the verses. I was so pleased to see that you had it available.I enjoyed it every bit as much as an adult, but to do so one would need British ascestry I would think.I really don't see the modern generation even understanding it.
So thank you for having it in stock

5-0 out of 5 stars Childhood favorites
I have always loved these poems and wanted to share them with the youngest generation. They are supposed to be for children, but they can linger in the mind sometimes for sixty years.

5-0 out of 5 stars The innonenceand sweetness of childhood
It is time for parents to turn off the tv, the game-box and to read the peoms of A A Milne to their children. They have delighted me and my family for years. Our most recent purchase was as a gift to a friend. Milne's insights into the world of children are breathtaking, and encourage us to recognise that children need space for themselves, for quiet reflection and for the time to read. The world of Milne and Pooh is as far away from crass commercialism, the noisy world orf exploitation as we are from the nearest stars. Make the clarion call for a return of childhood.

5-0 out of 5 stars Magic for Little and Big Witches
I am so glad I have the chance to turn back time and read again the Dorrie books I enjoyed in elementary school.I guess with my own children's excitment over theHarry Potter books, I realized I wanted to visit the Haunted House with Dorrie, Gink, Cook and Big Witch! My daughter who is 15 finally sat and read some of the Dorrie books and after laughing out loudwhile reading it said "Oh I get it!" this was your Witch Book!Much faster reading (Short Story) still great fun!Did I mention that my children are glad I own them?Next generation for fun with Witches Step Right UP!

5-0 out of 5 stars Childhood memories
My parents bought me the Dorrie series, and (even though I obviously don't need them to read to me anymore) I still like pulling them out and reading even in my 20's.

Not as fanciful as the Harry Potter series, I like tothink it the most important in terms of young socerers...etc. Dorrie is alittle girl who just happens to be a witch.

Although I was always buggedby the lack of full color, the love and warmth Dorrie, her family andfriends share for each other luminates the text. Of course, I also cannotforget Gink:-) Anybody looking for a good book that both children andparents can get into needs to check this one out.

As a child I would have my father read my "Dorrie" books over and over.I loved them as a child and I hope that one day - when I have my own - my children will love them as much as I did.

This wonderful book tells a tale of how adventure, curiosity and wonder..can get us in to trouble. It is also a tale of how a friend can get you out of it ,and home again safe. And then how wonderful it can be to get the chance to repay a kindness. This book wonderfully illustrated by Wallace Tripp ,who can sketch the pounce and bounce in a puppy really well. Loved it and you will too.

The story tells us how a group of animals get their name. The book talked about a swarm of bees, a gaggle of geese and a school of fish. Hawks mostly fly alone. They fly together for long distances like migration. When they fly together the group is called a kettle of hawks because it looks like they are flying in a kettle of hot air. I liked the story because it has lots of interesting information. ... Read more
