5-0 out of 5 stars A superb touching biography
This is one of the most touching and entertaining biographies since the master class of David Niven. Terence Stamp recalls the circumstances leading to his Oscar nominated film debut in Ustinov's 'Billy Budd' A film that laid the foundations for the groundbreaking performances that characterised his career throughout the sixties. The revelations of the book surround the actor's touching and honest accounts of his relationships with his Father, Micheal Caine and the love of his life Jean Shrimpton as appossed to his work with cinema greats like Fellini. A great read from a great actor and modest man. ... Read more

My Own Country is the story of an Indian physician who settled in a rural town in Tennessee as a young doctor to AIDS patients. This book is about illness andtreatment, about how a small community reacts to the advent of AIDS, about doctor-patient relationships, the body in decline, the ritual of examination, and how Verghese, as a doctor, coped with the inevitability of death.Verghese creates, beyond the jargon of medicine, a lyrical and haunting languageunique in this genre, and provides a narrative both rich and absorbing and aboveall, moving. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars - Excellent story and writing!
Terence Stamp, one of the most talented actors of our time, obviously has other talents. A very articulate writer who should consider taking up more writing as this is an excellent story, told excellently in its construction. But, its the author's use of language that enthralls and paints the story. We don't often have such erudite storytellers, that's why its hard to understand why Terence hasn't written many more since "The Night".Does anyone know why he stopped writing after one fantastic effort?Read it for the fun of enjoying the English language as it should be used by a master story teller.

4-0 out of 5 stars Growing up Cockney
This book covers Stamp's life up to his late teens, just before he went to drama school. He writes in a very personal style, skillfully capturing what it was like to grow up in the hard times of post-war London. Playing in bombed-out vacant lots; living in tiny flats, his early life comes across as a happy one despite the circumstances. He pays tribute to many of his friends, never failing to mention what he learned from them.He describes unashamedly his sexual awakening thru a daliance with a young nurse. His longings and excitements over his first dates are something anyone can relate to. To be honest I didn't know who Stamp was when I found this book at a garage sale, but I feel I know him well after reading it. Excellent read.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's All in the Details
Terence Stamp's first autobiography, "Stamp Album", cronicles his working-class upbringing in London's East End. Juxtaposing warm family portraits and memories with his tough childhood neighborhoods gives us a glimpse into what has made Stamp become such a nuanced and multi-faceted actor--a performer capable of excelling at roles requiring extremes. I admire his personal vision and belief in himself, enabling him to rise above the few options his class was born with and chase his cinematic aspirations. His never-flinching honesty (which includes embarassing moments most authors would have swept under the rug) is refreshing and his drive, exacting memory, and vivid attention to detail are as evident in his writing talent as they are in his dynamic dramatic performances. I can't wait to read "Coming Attractions" and "Double Feature." What an elegant artist---reading this book made me feel like I know him personally as a friend. ... Read more

Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Terence Henry Stamp (born 22 July 1939) is an English actor. Stamp, the eldest of five children, was born in Stepney, London in 1939, the son of Ethel Esther (née Perrott) and Thomas Stamp, who was a tugboat captain. His early years were spent in Canal Road, Bow, in the East End of London, but later in his childhood the family moved to Plaistow, Essex (now Greater London). His brother, Chris, is a rock 'n roll impresario credited with helping to bring The Who to prominence during the 1960s. As his father was away for long periods with his job in the Merchant Navy, the young Stamp was mostly raised by his mother, grandmother, and aunts. He grew up idolizing the film actor Gary Cooper after his mother had taken him to see Beau Geste at the age of three. He was also inspired by James Dean. ... Read more
