5-0 out of 5 stars Great book to learn the issues...
I used many of Dr. Carson's books in college, and found them to be great for getting a good understanding of the issues. He usually had an overview the issues and both sides of the argument explained. I threw out alot of my college textbooks but kept all of his books.Only issue is the argments in the book may become dated so try to get the latest editions. ... Read more

Long a secret weapon of the hedge-fund elite, the DeMark indicators are now used by more than 35,000 traders. This book provides an easy-to-follow system for using the indicators to identify market turns as they happen. Author Jason Perl gives a concise introduction to thirty-nine of the indicators, and then shows how to combine the indicators and time frames to achieve a higher probabilty of trading success. Thomas R. DeMark, the creator of the DeMark indicators and one of the most well-respected practitioners of technical analysis, wrote the foreword to this book. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars For the true Demarkist!!!!
This book does a great job of explaining TD Demark indicators! The author also illustrates how he uses the indicators, which gives even greater insight. This book is for the technician, because you can easily create a trading strategy using TD Demark Indicators!!

4-0 out of 5 stars A Fascinating Read
I thought DeMark Indicatiors was an interesting book because his proprietary techniques are quite a bit different from much of the technical indicators you see out there. Unfortunately, I only had moderate success in actually programming these indicators and I feel like the author could have been a little more clear about exactly what formula's to use. I still feel like it's a very good read to get you thinking in different ways about how the markets function.

2-0 out of 5 stars A Set of Definitions with Minimal Explanation
The presentation of the book is confusing. Some of the definitions contain logical errors. The charts usually repeat what he had said in the definition section without further explanation.Mathematical formulas are provided for only a few of indicators.

All I got out of the book is that the author is knowledgeable in the subject matter. However, his book doesn't seem to have a clear goal.It failed to systematically presents the rules as they contain errors and few formulas. It also failed to explain the thinking behind each indicators. Some of the definitions are missing when the terms first appear, only injected as notes in later chapters. With this book, I wasn't able to obtain insights to DeMark's thinking nor a set of rules for trading.

5-0 out of 5 stars Student and Master
To understand Thomas DeMark this is the best way or maybe the only way?
But as all theories it only shows a part/an aspect of the fascinating reality of trading!

2-0 out of 5 stars There more than 70 TD indicators!!!
This review is in no way a reflection on Jason Perl. He did a 5***** job explaining Demark indicators. When I checked some of the website mentioned in the book especially CQG, I found there are close to 70 indicators starting from TD Abs Retrace....TD FlipFlop....TD Propulsion....TD Meghan.....TD Rocke...TD Sequential.....TD Waldo....TD Wave....TD UVdTV.
Some of them have variations like TD Channel1, TD Channel2, TD Pressure TD Pressure1 etc..
Many reviewers havewritten how good these indicators are, my question is how do they use it. In a market situation where you have to make decision amongst 70+ TD indicator what is the deciding factor. The author and book have done their job, If some of you could post your experience using these indicators in real life that would be a great help to everyone. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Waiting for the next...
Brian did a great job for his first book. The relationship between Jason and Taylor is very realistic. While I was reading I found myself being in the book. The more I read the more I became the characters.Jason is smooth and the man handles his business.Taylor is beautiful but she wants the best of both worlds.David just wants everything that everybody else has!And everybody needs a cousin like Ray.I guess it's hard to be satisfied with what you have!

The title speaks for itself. The unexpected was happening all around in this story. One surprise after another!Keeping my attention was easy because there wasn't a boring moment. One minute you're in an office meeting, the next minute you're at the club and the next minute you're in the club bathroom.By the way, that was my favorite scene in the book.

Brian, keep on writing and I'll keep on reading.I had no trouble reading your story because you write just how people think and talk.Great Job.

3-0 out of 5 stars All is fair in love and war
Jason Thomas has the best of both worlds - a very successful business and a wonderful wife, or does it just seem that way?Jason is a debonair gentleman on the inside and a street-smart thug on the outside who would do anything for his wife, Taylor.Yet, their marriage is not without its problems.Taylor is a self-centered, materialistic woman who takes her man's dedication and his rising empire for granted.Feeling a bit forlorn, Taylor gets the idea that the grass is greener on the other side of the tracks.Enter into the scene, David, Jason's business partner.David is a hater with a capital "H".With a friend like David, who needs enemies? What David, Taylor and anyone else who comes up against Jason doesn't know, is that he is a very strong force to be contended with.Does one wrong turn deserve another? Will Taylor wise up before she loses everything that she holds near and dear? Will Jason realize what's going on before it's too late?

In TWISTED, the drama is never ending and as I was reading this, I kept saying "hmmm, what's next?".The reader is picked up and placed smack dab in the middle of the action from the very beginning. The characters are living the life in the fast-lane - drugs, money, sex and scandal run rampant through the pages of TWISTED.The book has unexpected plot twists that will leave you shaking your head. All in all, this is a good debut novel by Mr. White.I would have liked to have seen a little more depth in regards to character development and some stronger editing, however, TWISTED will take you on a drama-filled ride that you won't forget.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Grass isn't Always Greener...
Twisted is a whirlwind ride through the dark side of human nature and much like the house in the Wizard of Oz, we are dropped smack dab in the middle of Taylor and Jason Thomas' marital tension.

Thugged out but warmhearted, Jason Thomas has built an empire consisting of a bona fide business and one of shady dealings, both have afforded him the opportunity to amass great wealth.Although wealth is great, his true focus and dedication is that of the welfare of his family and friends.

It's much too bad that his wife, doesn't recognize this and Jason has anything but her dedication, as he soon discovers when a plot to bring about his untimely demise is uncovered.Jason withholds his knowledge of the planned attempt against his life. But the plot does thicken when Jason confronts his wife and good friend David regarding the tawdry affair that they've managed to keep secret right under his nose.

The characters in Twisted are bold, brazen, and at times I felt as, a few may have stepped right out of the personals in the Sunday newspaper, while others have allowed their selfish nature to get the best of them only to realize later and with much regret that the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

Not only are the main characters twisted in their thinking and actions, but the story also takes a series of unexpected twist. If there is one thing this story isn't, that is predictable.Just when you believe you know, what's coming next there's a twist and I found this enjoyable.I also liked the pace in which the story moves, we forgo the soup and salad and go right for the meat and potatoes in this tale.Like many African American male writers, Brian delves right in getting to the heart of this quick read.

Twisted is Brian's debut release and I was presented an opportunity to review the unedited version. There were typos and grammatical errors that I'm sure will be corrected in the final version of this urban tale. For an air of realism, profanity and relaxed language is frequently used.Brian is an imaginative storyteller with a bright future ahead of him.

If drama is what you crave, then get ready to wet your appetite with Twisted. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Tsar Bomba
As a real scientist who has taken an interest in these obscure areas I can testify that the theories behind this book are almost certainly - bogus. I have looked at gravity and theories of how to build real gravity manipulators in detail, and the first rule is that there's no free lunch. A real gravity engine is likely to need a power supply that would frighten the bravest physicist. If it doesn't take more power than used by the whole of America inthen it can't be real. Gravity engines basically don't work because E = mc^2 and E tends to be rather large.
Another clue is a mention of 'free energy', free energy is real but again can only appear at absolutely enormous energies.
Some of these peoples designs would require trillions of terawatts - similar to the real figures generated by Tsar Bomba - but not for very long. :)

1-0 out of 5 stars where's the beef?
This book consists primarily of interviews with John Searl, who claims he developed antigravity/free energy devices including crafts that allegedly flew into space. These devices were purportedly the results of a series of recurring dreams he had as a boy.

As an antigravity researcher who has conducted numerous scientific experiments over the years in this area, I have significant problems with his claims. He supposedly built his first SEG (Searl effect generator) when he was 14, and claimed he ultimately went on to build over 40 such devices. It is alleged that he demonstrated these craft for countless hundreds or thousands of people over the decades, and his devices were filmed by numerous camera crews working for various TV networks, including the BBC, and were seen by millions on Canadian TV.The problem is that he apparently cannot produce one person who witnessed these craft or any film or video footage of these devices. In fact, he doesn't even have a single photograph of an actual SEG.The photos in the back of the book show only wooden frames; at no time do you ever see the "drive unit" itself. The photos that show the disc hovering in the air are actually superimposed.

The devices were apparently built on "the law of the squares", his own mathematical theory which appears to be nonsensical. He has written a series of books on the "law of the squares", which he and the author are selling for a minimum of $[$$] per volume, or hundreds of dollars for all of the books. He has claimed that he wants to give his knowledge to the world, but has never given any level of detail which would allow anyone to replicate his "inventions".

...

Searl and the author claim they do not have a working device due to lack of funds, which they are seeking. One wonders how Searl received funding in the '40s and '50s sufficient to build at least 40 devices, some which were claimed to be over 40 feet in diameter, and orbited the planet for ten years.Without any corroborating evidence, these claims are simply not credible. In the end of the book, Searl predicts that there will be a pole shift on 5-5-2000 that will devastate the planet.Perhaps he should have simply stuck to his claims of producing antigravity.

4-0 out of 5 stars Future-Kinetics Just Arrived....
"The World Automobile Machinery is going to collapse after lack of oil resources..." It seems like future fiction, but almost fortunately is the new reality, who expands the possibility of using nature-like and healthy way of moving ourselves everywhere. Maybe an original text of John Searl should explain more about Anti-gravity technical information, but lacking the overall published availability on this matter, it's an almost collector's item on this subject. In conclusion: A Beginners Guide to U.F.O.'s technology. ... Read more

Product Description
The first biography of Nathan "Shanks" Evans, an important Confederate general, based upon a large cache of newly discovered and previously unpublished sources.

Until now, little has been known about Nathan "Shanks" Evans, a prominent and highly controversial Confederate general who served throughout the Civil War in several theaters of operations. Thankfully, because of a recently discovered cache of his personal papers--long rumored to exist but never before seen--it is now possible to present his fascinating Civil War odyssey largely in his own words.

Shanks covers Evans's entire amazing career, from his brave stand with a brigade at the famous stone bridge at First Manassas to his controversial months in North and South Carolina, where his erratic and harsh behavior earned the ire of much of his subordinate officer corps. Fighting in nearly every important campaign of the war, the famous brigade under his command was so well traveled it was known throughout the army as "The Tramp Brigade." Viewing the Civil War and the actions of his men through Evans's eyes is an engrossing new perspective and adds substantially to the literature of the Civil War. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The partial rehabilitation of an historical drunk
Evans has long been derided as one of the great insubordinate drunks of the war, a sort of Jubilation T. Cornpone who advanced as well as retreated. So it's good to see Silverman demonstrate how at least some of the drinking reputation was the backstabbing of jealous rivals. And that the insubordination was not frivolous. Indeed, Evans's refusal to retreat in the face of superior force, as Beauregard had ordered, and instead attack, made him the unsung hero of First Manassas/Bull Run.

The book also will be useful for such as finally explaining why Evans withdrew his brigade south from Leesburg against Beauregard's orders four days before the October 1861 Battle of Leesburg/Ball's Bluff. Silverman says Evans had word that the Federals intended to flank him from the Aldie turnpike south of the town.

The only low point for me was the author's pedestrian writing. The interesting defense of an historically-maligned hero is unfortunately more dryly journalistic than a good historical narrative ought to be. Especially when the author has access, as Silverman does, to previously unknown family and professional correspondence.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disapointed!
I had read many short exploits on "Shanks" and was really excited to read a full book on his exploits. This book however proved disapointing. I never got the feel for his true personality. The author states that he was "honored" with a position in the Dragoons after West Point. The dragoons were where bottom of the barrel for West Point grads. Later on he's a Major on one page then a Colonel on the next page. It's not until 4-5 pages later are we informed that he was promoted. Many times during a battle the reader is left scratching his head asking what happened. The detail of a movement is described and the next thing you know the battle was over. What happened?
I've read over 63 Civil War biographies and was disapointed in this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars A concise and neat biography

This relatively short (200+ pages) and workmanlike biography is the first book-length account of the life of Nathan G. Evans. A West Point graduate in 1848 (near the bottom of his class), his first military experiences occurred fighting Indians as a Dragoon in the West. A native of South Carolina, he resigned from the army in 1861 and threw his hat in with the Confederacy. Put in charge of a cavalry brigade of South Carolinians, he distinguished himself at First Bull Run and Balls Bluff a few months later. Success continued to follow him at Second Bull Run, South Mountain (where with a diminished force he helped save Rodes's division from annihilation), Antietam, and Vicksburg. But then troubles began to replace his successes, caused probably by a harsh and unsteady temperament. He was tried for drunkenness and acquitted, and then for disobedience, for which he was also acquitted. But the damage to his reputation was done, and many of his superiors (Beauregard in particular) had little use for him. Injured in a fall from his horse in 1864, he didn't see duty again until the war was almost lost. He was a high school principal after the war, but lived only until 1868.

Silverman, et. al., have used the newly-discovered letters and papers of Evans well in constructing this life. They have defined a very specific task at hand - relating Evans's rather short life - and have not wavered from it with superfluous information or analysis. It's a very direct and proficient biography; it will not win awards for style. Illustrations are included, but, unfortunately, no maps. Recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars An engaging read and scholarly sound
I purchased this book a few weeks back because it was written by one of my favorite college professors and advisor, Dr. Silverman at Winthrop, hoping the book would be as good as his lectures. I was not disapointed.

For someone unitiated to the life of General Evans, like myself, the narrative portions of the book gave a real feel for his times and motivations. The battle descriptions are certainly more than who moved his forces where and such. A real sense of the character of Gen. Evans and how his leadership style meshed with the flow of the Confederate Army opened up to me the depth of the military action and struggle of battles, like Manassess, that I am already familiar with.

Letting the participants speak for themselves through their own personal letters is well done, especially since the narrative flows well with the letters.

Again, the only complaint would be the lack of maps, other than that this is a fine read for the general reader and for those concerned with the details of the Civil War and Confederate leadership.

5-0 out of 5 stars The FirstBiography of Shanks Evans Is a Solid Success
Winthrop University historians Jason Silverman and Samuel Thomas have teamed up with the late Beverly Evans to produce a thoroughly enjoyable biography of Confederate Brigadier General Nathan "Shanks" Evans of Marion, South Carolina.

The strength of the book lies in the authors' skillful use of the private papers of General Evans that his descendent, Beverly Evans, had carefully conserved and made available to his two co-authors. Rather than foisting their own interpretations of Evans on the reader, the authors allow the general to speak for himself, mostly through his previously unpublished familyletters as well as his military correspondence. The picture of Evans that emerges from the book is at odds with the common perception of him as an impetuous, brawling brigadier with a fondness for alcohol.

A West Point graduate and an accomplished Indian fighter before the war, Evans' resigned his commission in the U.S. Army shortly after his native state seceded from the Union. Despite his spectacular early successes at First Manassas, Ball's Bluff and Secessionville, and solid performances at Second Manassas and Antietam, Evans' promotions stalled out at the rank of brigadier general. His failure to obtain the coveted rank of major general traced to a series of running disputes with both his subordinate and his superior officers that resulted in two courts martial of Evans during 1863. Though acquitted in both proceedings, Evans' public reputation never recovered, and he spent the balance of the war in obscurity. He died in 1868, aged only 44, still struggling to rebuild his life from the war.

Superbly written and grounded in sound research, SHANKS contains some previously unpublished photographs of Evans and his family. Maps would have augmented the battle descriptions. But despite their absence SHANKS is a fine book that sheds positive, new light on an obscure but important military figure. Readers with an interest in South Carolina, or in the early Civil War in the East, will especially enjoy the book.

I have all of my "favorite places" marked for quick reference. The book is not organized to study for CNE exams. However, it has the information for Intranetware Network Administrators need for managing their networks. It contains a great index for quick look-ups. ... Read more

Product Description
Jason Thomas Johnson was born on July 8, 1979, in Holt, Michigan. After achieving a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology at the University of Michigan, in 2002, he accepted a job offer from a youth residential treatment facility located in Memphis, Tennessee. While working full time, Jason was able to achieve a Master of Arts degree from the University of Memphis in the field of school psychology. It was the combination of his work experiences and his continued schooling that helped develop his gung ho preventative attitude, which is not only aimed at the children who are treated, but at the adults who interact with them as well. It is his contention that society perpetually errs by overlooking the trials and tribulations of the treatment agents, and dismissing their concerns by means of despondency. This is his second attempt at improving the workers’ plight; the first you will read about. ... Read more

Product Description

A Queer Film Classic: this brilliant 1974 Canadian cinema verité film, set in Montreal's bohemian neighborhood "The Main" and hailed at its Whitney Museum debut, is a fascinating take on social mores and relationships in the 1970s and a twentysomething photographer's attraction for the teenaged son of acquaintances.

4-0 out of 5 stars Well written and easy to follow descriptions
I enjoy all of the Winnett books because they are accurate, fun to read and reliable. This book has little chapters on over 100 trips in the Sierra range, and the descriptions of each trek are a total delight. So often these hiking books neglect to tell you how to reach the trailhead and oftentimes they don't provide detailed instructions. Winnett never makes this mistake. You will not need a separate map to locate any of the trailheads, his maps and written instructions are first-rate. Equally interesting is that this book doesn't merely give elevation gains, difficulty ratings and desriptions of the trail conditions. These are vital to know, but Winnett also includes little bits of information of what kinds of wild flowers you will encounter, birds, wildlife and other little nuggets neglected in other guides.

The book is supposed to be only for overnight backpacking trips, but there are many trails here that can be used for day hikes. These trips will be in the 10-16 mile range and any strong hiker can easily do these hikes in one day. If you do choose to go the multi-day backpacking route, Winnett describes water sources, camping sites and addresses whether bears or marmots might be a problem for you. Most importantly, he tells you where to find water and whether the water source is reliable throughout the whole year.

I can't recommend this guide highly enough. Even if you're an armchair hiker, you'll derive many hours of vicarious joy from this guide.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great trip planning resource
The only thing I would add to the previous review is that Sierra South does not have that big a selection of overnighters.Of the ones they do have, many are 9-ish miles in length (round trip) and I don't like to drive that far to do a couple hours of hiking. It is still a great book, though.Sierra North has more in the way of overnighters.

5-0 out of 5 stars My key reference book to the southern Sierra
Well researched and extremely well written, it is a wealth of accurate information for planning either partial day hikes or multiday backpacks. The single most reached for resource I use for the lower Sierra's trails. The description of the trail, fauna and flora to be expected enroute and access to trailheads are valuable and allows even the armchair hiker a good virtual experience.A companion guide to be used with this book would be a good topo map similar to perhaps those produced by Tom Harrison Maps. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars What is Southern Baptist
This book synthesizes core issues.
If you think change is needed this is a must read.

It doesn't answer everything but the answers it does give points
the Church in the direction it should have always been going.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't be fooled by the title
This is an excellent apologetic for Baptist Distinctives. Excellent through and through. This book lays out the major issues that make Baptists Baptists:

-Regenerate Church Membership
-Believer's Baptism by Immersion
-Memorial View of the Lord's Supper
-Church Discipline

Pick this up along with The Baptist Way: Distinctives of a Baptist Church.

For anyone thinking about becoming a Baptist, anyone with questions about Baptist theology and for Baptists themselves.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for heads of Baptist churches
Some say integrity is something that has taken quite the beating in modern society. "Restoring Integrity in Baptist Churches" is a collection of wise, Christian minds on the current decline of church attendance nation wide and the fall of moral values in America. Speaking on membership, Baptist principles, Discipline, and how to spread the values to a congregation, "Restoring Integrity in Baptist Churches" is a must for heads of Baptist churches.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Various authors - Mark Dever, Daniel Akin, and Stan Norman to name a few - provide overlapping chapters on themes like "Regaining Meaningful Church Membership," "Fencing the Table," and "The Reestablishment of Proper Church Discipline."

This book mentions by name current debates within the SBC on these issues. There is no doubt that this book will benefit the daily conversation among denominational leaders and pastors regarding the health of Baptist churches. I found the authors to be soaked in Scripture, aware of church history, and given to pastoral practicality.

5-0 out of 5 stars Book Endorsements
"In a day when many believe the most important ingredients to effective ministry are intellect, intensity and insight this volume restores our faith in the fact that it is really integrity in the local church.Integrity is rooted in our private lives, reflected in our personal lives, reinforced in our professional lives and ultimately revealed in our public lives as churchmen.Restoring Integrity...read it and reap!"

"My favorite verse in the Bible is found in Proverbs 20:7, which magnifies integrity. The church will be blessed by our Heavenly Father in direct proportion to its integrity. This book will chart the path that leads to the place of knowing His hand on the church's work. What we are in the inward parts is what matters most."

"Restoring Integrity in the Church. Formidable Assignment! Formidable scholars! Formidable proposals! I believe the Lord will use this book by committed conservative scholars to return our churches to New Testament integrity."

"The loss of a biblical vision of the local church - indeed the collapse of biblical ecclesiology in many congregations - is the greatest threat to the Baptists.Restoring Integrity is a book urgently needed and well timed. The writers of this book are some of the brightest theologians and scholars in Baptist life today, and they are deeply committed to the recovery of integrity in Baptist life and in Baptist churches. We have needed this book for a long time."

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm glad I bought it.
After reading the other two reviews, I waited a few months before buying this book.I was pleasantly surprised since this book is very interesting and it flows nicely.I felt that the author was fair to Doris and he did not "bash" her as the other reviews had said.I enjoyed getting to know Doris Duke, and I am glad I bought the book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Utterly Tasteless
Really. If you have nothing nice to say, good manners dictates you say nothing and not accept money for a lot of nasty swill. If you like mucking about, you'll love this.

2-0 out of 5 stars What a shame

After a recent visit to the Rough Point Estate in Newport, I was interested to know more about the remarkable woman who once lived there. This book was a disapointment because it is quite obvious the authors had an axe to grind with Miss Duke and chose this method to extract more money from the association to her. It should be pointed out that Doris Duke was very generous to Pony Duke,co-author, until he threw it all away. I will say atleast he had the courtesy to admit it.The book is poorly written as well. Cheap is the word I'de like to use.It is unfortunate that a good biography has yet to be written about this huge icon. Her life was filled with controversy and great sadness, but also triumph and cunning, generosity and good will. It is a shame that even in death she was taken advantage of. ... Read more
