Product Description
Back To The Future is a 1985 science fiction adventure film directed by Robert Zemeckis, co-written by Bob Gale and produced by Steven Spielberg. The film stars Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly, as well as Christopher Lloyd, Crispin Glover, Lea Thompson and Thomas F. Wilson. Back to the Future tells the story of Marty McFly, a teenager who is accidentally sent back in time from 1985 to 1955. He meets his parents in high school, accidentally attracting his mother's romantic interest. Marty must repair the damage to history by causing his parents to fall in love, while finding a way to return to 1985. Zemeckis and Gale wrote the script after Gale mused upon whether he would have befriended his father if they attended school together. Various film studios rejected the script until the box office success of Zemeckis' Romancing the Stone, and the project was set up at Universal Pictures with Spielberg as executive producer. ... Excerpt: Scot Thompson (born February 11, 1981 in New York, New York) is an American soccer player currently playing for Portland Timbers in the USSF Division-2 Professional League. On January 20, 2010 he was ranked 21st in the USL First Division Top 25 of the Decade, which announced a list of the best and most influential players of the previous decade. Thompson grew up in Rancho Santa Margarita, California, and was a standout defender at Trabuco Hills High School from 1995 to 1999, where he was a four year Varsity starter, and earned all South Coast League 1st Team Honors for three years. During this time, Thompson was invited to train with the US National Under-19 Squad. In Thompson's senior year the Mustangs earned a share of the South Coast League title and were knocked out of the quarter-finals of the CIF playoffs. Thompson played college soccer at UCLA from 1999 to 2002, helping lead the Bruins to a national championship in 2002. He finished his career at UCLA with 68 starts, and was named to the first-team All-Pac 10 as a senior. Thompson was selected in the second round (16th overall) in the 2003 MLS SuperDraft by Los Angeles Galaxy. Unfortunately for Thompson, he tore his ACL in the preseason, and missed the entire 2003 season as a result. Returning healthy in 2004, Thompson was nevertheless unable to break into the Galaxy's starting lineup - he was loaned mid-season to the Portland Timbers of the A-League, where he excelled. Thompson started 13 games for the team, registering two assists, while helping lead the team to the A-League's best regular season record. When the Timbers were eliminated from the playoffs, Thompson returned to the Gal...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=1243286 ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Fun but predictable
Kate White has a breezy style and rattles off a good story, but some of the plot elements were awfully tired. If I read one more book where the heroine gets trapped in a sauna....Also, it was very easy to figure out whodunnit after White dropped a thunking great clue into the plotline, and after that the thrill was gone.

The book could also have been edited a little better. I found myself counting up the extraordinary number of times that "amazing" popped up in the chapter where Beau drops by for dinner.

Still, it's fine if you want a light beach read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fast-paced, chic, suspenseful...White writes one heck of a mystery!
Since landing a gig as a crime writer for the hip women's magazine GLOSS, freelance writer Bailey Weggins has had the opportunity to coast along in her career - picking up paychecks, and encountering the occasional murderer as she attempts to get the scoop on some of the biggest mysteries plaguing Manhattan. But when her boss, on-again-off-again pal, and Editor-in-Chief, Cat Jones, gives her the old heave-ho, Bailey has no idea where to turn next. Sure, she has enough cash from her divorce, and a small trust fund from her father, to continue living in a jazzy apartment in the Village, but if she wants to make a little extra dough to keep her outfitted with enough pasta, clams, and wine to last a lifetime, she'll have to pick up a new freelancing job. Luckily, one lands right in her lap when she encounters her old pal, Robby, who just happens to be working at BUZZ, one of the hippest tabloids on the market. With a good word from him, and a killer interview, Bailey snags the job. Then stumbles upon the body of her new boss.

As a crime writer, Bailey knows little about writing snazzy, pop culture-esque quips about celebs and their various rendezvous'. Luckily, as the new celebrity crime writer for BUZZ, she isn't expected to possess that know-how. As she begins chasing down stories about celebrities racking up convictions for hitting police officers, and running red lights, Bailey begins to think that she's struck gold with this new position of hers. Until she finds her boss, the uber-witch Mona Hodges, in her office - bludgeoned to death. To add insult to injury, Robby is the prime suspect. Bailey never thought that she would be covering the murder of someone so close to her, but if there's one thing she has learned in the past, it's that with enough investigating you can get to the bottom of anything. Besides, Bailey just knows that Robby isn't guilty of such a heinous crime, even if he did have a bone to pick with Mona, and she has vowed to clear his name. But as the suspects begin rapidly piling up, Bailey is unsure of whether or not she'll ever be able to finger the appropriate culprit. And now, with a summer fling of a lifetime with sexy filmmaker, Beau, on her mind, she finds that concentrating on the task at hand - capturing the killer - is proving to be more difficult than she originally expected. And if she's not careful, she may just be the next one leaving the BUZZ offices - in a body bag.

As a native New Yorker with a passion for journalism, tabloids, and mystery, I have never been able to resist a good BAILEY WEGGINS novel. OVER HER DEAD BODY, however, proves to take the cake, in my opinion, as one of the best releases in the series thus far. Bailey is a fun character, whose romps and escapades into the world of murder are insightful, heart-stopping, and utterly irresistible; while her forays into the world of romance leave you breathless. Bailey's oft-times paranoid thinking, and constant insomnia make her feel like a real individual, bringing her to life; and the many relationships she's constantly trying to juggle - between her ex-boss, her next-door-neighbor, and various professional contacts - make her even more appealing, as the reader has the opportunity to relate to her harried daily life. The fact that OVER HER DEAD BODY incorporates much information regarding the tabloid world into its pages makes it impossible to put it down. And, as an added bonus, the confusion regarding Bailey's summer fling with Beau will make your head spin. Fast-paced, chic, suspenseful...White writes one heck of a mystery!

3-0 out of 5 stars Review of Audio Version
I'm enjoying the book in a "guilty pleasure" sort of way. It's light, and funny and pretty standard whodunit. But the narrator is driving me batty!!Her voice inflections when she's doing any voice other than Bailey's is totally whacky. She pauses at the wrong places, every sentence goes up at the end like a question but it's not a question and she has a very odd delivery. It is completely distracting from the flow of the story.

My daughter and I are avid audio book listeners due to lengthy, daily commutes so we understand how critical a good "reader" is to the success of an audio book. And this one is just bad!

5-0 out of 5 stars Got me wanting More!!!
I finished this book late last night. I couldn't put it down because she kept you guess through out the book. I really enjoyed the mystry and Romance this book brought with it.Every day I had to go back to the book to find out what happened next...Good read ENJOY!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Review of the Unabridged Audio Book
The problem with audiobooks is that if there is a editing screw-up or a phrase that the author uses repeatedly it is more obviously on an audiobook. For instance that space down the middle of a multi-lane highway is a "median"not a "meridian".And by the time Baily had finished her interview I was very, very tired of hearing "I just have one more question".I was complaining about the "one more question" to a friend who said she did that when doing cross and recently the judge had looked at her sardonically and said "No you don't-- you have a lot more."Which is what I wanted to say to Bailey.

Anyway the audiobook was quite well read although the narrator was different from the first Bailey Weggans book I listened to a year ago.

These books are a guilty pleasure to me.The only glossy magazine I read on a regular basis is Vanity Fair-- for the crime stories, yah know.I don't think I've ever read a Cosmopolitan magazine.I'm nowhere near the demographic that I believe Bailey Weggans is geared to and I doubt if Ihave any idea what a pair of Blahniks would look like.In fact it is a lot like reading a fantasy novel where the author has to do world building-- a skill Kate White has, as she makes me believe that this is what a glossy, gossip magazine would be like under these circumstances. ... Product Description
Creativity and Innovation in Organizational Teams stemmed from a conference held at the Kellogg School of Management in June 2003 covering creativity and innovation in groups and organizations. Each chapter of the book is written by an expert and covers original theory about creative processes in organizations. The organization of the text reflects a longstanding notion that creativity in the world of work is a joint outcome of three interdependent forces—individual thinking, group processes, and organizational environment. Part I explores basic cognitive mechanisms that underlie creative thinking, and includes chapters that discuss cognitive foundations of creativity, a cognitive network model of creativity that explains how and why creative solutions form in the human mind, and imports a ground-breaking concept of "creativity templates" to the study of creative idea generation in negotiation context. The second part is devoted to understanding how groups and teams in organizational settings produce creative ideas and implement innovations. Finally, Part III contains three chapters that discuss the role of social, organizational context in which creative endeavors take place. The book has a strong international mix of scholarship and includes clear business implications based on scientific research. It weds the disciplines of psychology, cognition, and business theory into one text. ... Read more

MEDIEVAL K AND HISTORIOGRAPHICAL IN HONOR OF JAMES WESTFALL THOMPSON EDITED BY JAMES LEA GATE AND EUGENE N. ANDERSON THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO PRESS CHICAGO ILLINOIS COPYRIGHT 1938 BY THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. PUBLISHED JANUARY 1938. COMPOSED AND PRINTED BY THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO PRESS, CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, U. S. A. JAMES WESTFALL THOMPSON TO JAMES WESTFALL THOMPSON TEACHER AND FRIEND THESE ESSAYS ARE DEDICATED BY HIS FORMER STUDENTS, THE AUTHORS PREFACE THE role of the academic historian is a dual if not a bifurcated one he teaches and he writes. That his fame outside his own institution depends usually upon his publications alone is regrettable, for in an art so ephemeral as is the historians the channels of influence radiating from his classroom may cut deeper and run longer than those emanating from his most scholarly book. Perhaps it is because it honors an oft-neglected phase of the historians career, rather than from any virtue inherent in its literary form or any intrinsic utility, that the Festschrift enjoys so wide a vogue today. Within its covers as nowhere else can disciple publicly render homage to master for inspiration and training received. For more than the two-score years conventionally allotted to the professor, James Westfall Thompson has, at Chicago and California, taught with effectiveness and distinction. Rigorously but sympathetically he has initiated the seminar student into the mysteries of medieval documents, and he has lectured to large classes with lucidity and with a dramatic touch which he would deprecate but which perennially draws the former graduate back once again to see Otto of Wittels bachs sword flash at Besangon or to hear Louis the Debon naires wail of contrition at Attigny. It was an appreciation of these qualities of the teacher as well as of the ripe personal ity of the man which led a group of Professor Thompsons former students to plan this volume of historical studies in his honor. The initiative in the project was taken by Profes sor E. N. Anderson, who collected the seventeen essays which appear below when he was called from Chicago to another university, the more prosaic task of seeing the book through the press fell by default to myself. Vlll PREFACE Since Professor Thompsons influence was by no means limited to students majoring in medieval history,, it seemed unwise to try to fit the articles around any central theme or into any predetermined pattern the sole proviso stipulated to contributors was that each essay fall within one of the two fields to which Professor Thompson had devoted his chief attention the history of the Middle Ages and the history of historical scholarship. The resultant disparity in the length of the articles, though greater than was anticipated, has caused the editors small concern nor have they regretted the wide variety of topics chosen. It was felt that the only unity proper to such a volume is that of affection and esteem, and of that spiritual oneness they have often been made aware. The very heterogeneity of subject matter is in itself tribute to the wide-ranging interests of a teacher whose constantly reiterated phrase was that all is grist to the historians mill. The titles of the students essays reflect the develop ment of the masters scholarly interests as they turned from political and ecclesiastical to social and economic to artistic and intellectual matters frequently the articles date the period of the authors graduate work. It is in frank ac knowledgment of the absence of any central theme that no index has been provided, for it was felt that a mere list of un related names and places would be of little aid to the reader. It should not be amiss here to express the gratitude of all concerned to those friends of Professor Thompson whose generosity made possible the publication of this book. More personal are the thanks I render to those who have made lighter the chores of an editor to Mrs... ... Read more

Product Description
This text employs a communication perspective to examine the aging process and the ability of individuals to adapt successfully to aging. It continues the groundbreaking work of the first edition, emphasizing a life-span approach toward understanding the social interaction that occurs during later life. The edition provides a comprehensive update on the existing and emerging research within communication and aging studies and considers such topics as notions of successful aging, positive and negative stereotypes toward older adults, and health communication issues. It raises awareness of the barriers facing elderly people in conversation and the importance such conversations have in elderly people's lives. The impact of nonrelational processes, such as hearing loss, are considered as they impact relationships with others and affect the ability to age successfully.

The book is organized into 14 chapters. Each chapter is written so that the reader is presented with an exhaustive review of the pertinent and recent literature from the social sciences. As in the first edition, when the literature is empirically based, the communicative ramifications are then discussed.

Readers of this volume will gain greater understanding of the importance of their communicative relationships and how significant they remain across the life span. Developed for students in communication, psychology, nursing, social gerontology, sociology, and related areas, Communication and Aging provides important insights on communication to all who are affected by the aging process.
