5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent text for obtaining pt hx
Great book, includes the basics you desire combined with a clever format that helps to guide your listening and questioning...

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
The best feature of this book for me was that it offered examples of real questions to ask during the medical interview.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great source for history algorithms and epidemiological data to guide clinical expectations
Presentation-specific chapter headings guide the reader through dozens of common chief complaints in an organized and methodical (system-based) manner. While initially intimidating, this text has earned its place in my medical bag.It has repeatedly proven just as useful in the clinic as in the classroom...just like any text should, but often fails to achieve. My only request is that the authors extend the portability of this text by providing reference flashcards or possibly a pocket-sized companion text.

5-0 out of 5 stars STEAL THIS BOOK
.......... This book is the best book for 2nd and 3rd year students who are interacting with patients for the first time. the hardest part about taking a history is knowing what questions to ask. this book TELLS YOU. It's organized by system and by Chief complaint, each section includes a well thought out DDx, and a list of questions you should ask and what it mean if the patient says yes. it also tells you what physical signs to look for and what lab tests to order. Your presentations and H&Ps will through and you will understand why you ask all those silly questions in the first place. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars best general medical reference available
As a medical student, intern and now a resident I have found this test to be the best reference for my daily work. The listings are so comprehensive enough to provide a great general practical day to reference. They are up to date and thus provide a adjunct to bedside treatment especially on those lonely call nights when its just the house staff in the hospital. I often will refer medical students to it as a refereance. I find that the reviews are oriented from a practial point of view as well as being concise enough to give a good, quick but through, overview. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Easy to Read
I am a first year PA student.I find Current a much better reference than Cecils Textbook of Medicine. It has quick easy to read sections on many diseases. The disease passages are well labelled with a few "Essentials of Diagnosis" at the top. Then the passage describes etiology, signs and symptoms, laboratory findings and treatment.Overall, a great reference.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another must have for the primary provider
As a military medical provider that moves all the time, I have to be discriminate about what amount of books I carry with me. This book, along with Habif's Dermatology, is always on the top of the packing list. From ENT complaints to infectious diseases, this book is an excellent reference. It is easy to read, regularly updated, and comprehensive.

this book is not thorough as in covering everything you would need for every topic. You should purchase the bigger book for that purpose, but as a pocket guide its awesome. 4-0 out of 5 stars not bad
I thought this book was very interesting and informative to a pre-med student.I'm not in med schools yet, but love to read about medical related things.

1-0 out of 5 stars Too much money
Enough said....... quote "However, this current (2008) edition of CMDT has several chapters (more than the 2007 edition) available only online, AND for the very first time, the online access is $79 extra. "

1-0 out of 5 stars use to be a good book
Didn't like the idea of going back and forth online to book and book to online. Use to be a great book I will not recommend this book to anyone anymore, I am a foreigne medical graduate and use to tell all the graduates coming from abroad to read this book not anymore. I hope the authors are listening.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not great.
Having owned many previous editions of this book, I have to say that I am somewhat disappointed by the amount of material that is available only online for a substantial fee (relatively, compared to previous free online content, or even the street price of the print edition). Some of the online information surely could have been incorporated into this edition. Most of the algorithms that appeared in previous editions have been left out, and let's face it folks, most of those haven't changed at all since the 2007, or even the 1997 editions.I am not inclined, however, to grab a bunch of older editions off my bookshelf to find them.A lot of very important basic pharmacology that appeared in older editions has been left out of the 2008 print edition.I don't keep old texts and references on the shelves anyway.I am a D.D.S., M.D. with an undergraduate background in pharmacology, so I picked up on much of the missing stuff right away, just leafing through.Even with the negatives associated with this edition, I will likely buy future editions because there just isn't another reference with this much in a single volume that is as concise and easy to find.I am used to grabbing this book for a quick summary of dx and tx that I don't treat a lot.I do head and neck surgery, and I just don't see patients with Cushing's or Tetralogy of Fallot for cripe's sake!Wading through Harrison's Int. Medicine or a two volume cardiology text is something I am not going to do while a patient is sitting in an exam room waiting for me to reappear.I'll use my CMDT though. One can nitpick on virtually anything that is "new" or "different".So let's be honest, most of us who really use this thing can easily afford the $79 for online access, and most of us who have used a number of previous editions will continue to use CMDT unless it evolves into something totally worthless, and that's just not going to happen.

1-0 out of 5 stars New edition no good!
I purchased the new edition to replace my 2005, which had been destroyed through constant use and my backpack.I was very disappointed to find that the background information in the beginning of most chapters was deleted so that each chapter starts immediately talking about disease. For instance, the nutrition chapter (which is called nutritional disorders in the new edition) cut out 9 pages of background information on nutritional requirements, dietary recommendations, etc.I thought new editions were supposed to improve upon and update previous editions, not cut out crucial information.I would recommend buying an older edition instead of wasting your money on this incomplete one! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The best Medical book to have at your finger tips,,,,
For accurate dx and tx of a wide variety of medical conditions, this book ( and the series ) still remains the number one choice of health care professionals.

The later versions are deviating from the excellent format of the 2005 dated copies, so I recommend the earlier versions up to this date.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cant say enough, great book!
I love this book. It is so very comparable to the merck manual. It covers every topic beautifully and concisely including all the pertinent things you would need to know for any disease or pathology. I find myself always refering back to it when reviewing material or needing a refresher on certain topics. It is a bulky book so it is not a good book to carry around with you, but as a desk reference its a must have.

5-0 out of 5 stars A bible for third year med students
Seriously, don't consider anything else. I used this for my write ups and notes third year, and did really well. I always got complimented on the information I covered in my notes. I LOVE this book.

It is VERY nice book. Especially for medical students and residents.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good concise review of medical diagnosis for health professionals
First, I am not a medical professional, but I was a Pre-Med major in college.I was not able to get into medical school.I bought this book for a relative who is a nurse and who needed a more recent copy of the CMDT book. From just scanning the book and my scientific background (limited as it is), it provides a good reference material for those who have to deal with patients in their workplace. The material is comprehensive and limited enough to provide a good summary for health professionals. My relative works in a clinical office setting and the book provides helpful information when assessing a patient. The one thing that I didn't like about the book is the trend the publishers have done to remove some material from the previous edition and to put it online. You are allowed a 1 year access to the website and then you have to pay an annual fee to continue the access. The 2008 edition carried this trend even further and some material was taken out of that edition resulting in a smaller book.If you read some of the reviews of the 2008 CMDT book, there were complaints about this trend.Taking material out and telling your reader to go find it online is sort of forcing one to have to go to two sources to get information. Why then bother to publish a book at all?I know that the Internet has become a more widely used resource for any profession. But I just don't like the fact that I would have to search multiple places to find an answer to a topic or question.

4-0 out of 5 stars current2007
For the past several years, every other year, I have purchased the Lange Current. I use it frequently for a second opinion or to review a topic of treatment that I don't see in practice on a regular basis. It gives a good overview and I understand that if I want or need indepth information I will just go to a specialty reference specifically for a particular problem. It has reliable up to date information and I notice that others in my office use it from time to time.

5-0 out of 5 stars HELPS ME IN MY TEST FOR THE SPECIALITY
THE CURRENT MEDICAL DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT IS GREAT
REPEATS YOU ALL THE INFORMATION YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND, VERY WELL ORGANIZED THE CAPTERS BY SYSTEMS
ALL YOU NEED FOR THE ENARM IN MEXICO

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best comprehensive books you can buy.
This book is definitely a great resource to have on hand. It covers almost everything you would need on practically every topic and then some. Its a great book to have as a reference or study guide. Although some of the information may be TMI, it covers all the pertinents and is relatively inexpensive to other medical books out in the market. I would definitely say this book, or any of its other editions is a must have. It is clearly written and easy to understand. ... Read more
