Product Description
Part autobiography, part personal philosophy, and full of practical advice for women of all ages, Raquel: Beyond the Cleavage is a book that skimps neither on entertainment nor on good plain advice.

She didn’t hatch out of an eagle’s nest, circa One Million Years B.C., clad in a skimpy fur bikini. She didn’t aspire to fame as a sex symbol. Yet, for many years after making her Hollywood entrance as every man’s fantasy, Raquel Welch was best known for her beauty and sex appeal. A private person, she allowed people to draw their own conclusions from her public image. Now, Raquel Welch is ready to speak her mind. And, with the luxury of hindsight and the benefit of experience, she has plenty to share about the art of being a woman--even men will find it enlightening to read about what makes her tick.

In Beyond the Cleavage, Raquel Welch talks, woman to woman, about her views on all that comes with being a member of the female sex--love, sex, style, health, body image, career, family, forgiveness, aging, and coming of age. Looking back on her life, she lets women in on her childhood, dominated by a volatile father; her first love, marriage, and divorce; her early struggles as a single working mother in Hollywood; her battles for roles and respect as an actress; and her daring decision never to lie about her age. Looking forward, she offers women a compass to guide them at every crossroad of life, from menopause through the empty nest years, to dating younger men and beyond. Along with bringing baby boomers into her confidence--she offers essential tips for staying motivated and positive past fifty, as well as divulging her secrets for fabulous hair and makeup--she even talks to today’s younger generation of women about the importance of carrying themselves with dignity and self-respect.

With warmth, humor, conviction, and honesty, Raquel reveals her approach to preventative aging, her life-changing commitment to yoga, her recipe for eating right, her skincare regimen, her flair for fashion, and much more. Deeply personal (Welch wrote every word herself--no ghostwriter), Beyond the Cleavage is Raquel Welch’s gift to every woman who longs to look and feel her best, and be at peace with herself. ... Very pedestrian, self-serving account with little personal revelation and mediocre pictures. I was hoping for more at this stage of her life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great read
This was a fascinating book about someone we always wanted to be.Now she's sharing amazing must have secrets!!

5-0 out of 5 stars I thoroughly enjoyed....from author of EXPLOSION IN PARIS...
First of all, I enjoyed the woman behind "The actress", "The sex Kitten" persona. It doesn't matter who we are, how much money we make or how successful or happy we are. We are all human and we all share the same human challenges. I found her refreshingly down to earth and caring. I love another feature we share as we age....the camaraderie, the special closeness between women because we've all been there and done that and we all survived. We appreciate our treasured memories and enjoy sharing them. I thoroughly enjoyed Raquel's book.

Really a great choice of book and everything was perfect in sales and delivery.Thank you!

2-0 out of 5 stars Raquel: Beyond The Cleavage [REVIEW]
I love Raquel Welch. She's talented, she's full of life, she owns any screen or role she takes on and let's face it, she's drop dead gorgeous and a bombshell. This book, however, is truly disappointing. It should have been titled 'Much Ado About Nothing' because the description, cover and back cover all give you the impression that this is Raquel Welch's moment in the spotlight. You'd think you were going to be treated to an autobiography penned by Raquel herself that takes the fans into her world and talks about her life in and out of the spotlight. Instead, this is really nothing more than a how-to guide for women.

The Good: I'd say the first chapter and parts of the final few chapters of the book were the best. These were pretty much what I expected out of the book - Raquel talking about her life, her experiences, her childhood and lots of personal anecdotes about fame.

The Bad: Where to start. First, nowhere on the cover or in the description did I read that you needed to be a woman to get anything out of this book. Welch really alienates her fan base by writing a book that's just for women and ignoring the fact that she has male fans. This isn't an autobiography. If you're expecting Welch to reveal tidbits about her life and go in depth about her career, this isn't your book. This is basically a book all about womanhood, health tips for women, fashion tips for women and Welch going on ad nauseum about what it means to be an aging woman in today's society. Sigh. Really, this feels like a big mess of a book. Why not say on the cover that this is a health/lifestyle book? Why make it look like it's an autobiography and yet have Welch state repeatedly that she enjoys her privacy, she won't kiss-and-tell ... then, again, why make the book look and appear like an autobiography? I felt the description and even the title was very deceptive because the editors/publishers knew that few people would buy a book that's all about Raquel Welch's tips to a healthy life. They would, however, buy a book that's all about Welch and her life in the spotlight. But, again, this book is hardly about that. What infuriated me even more about the book is that she starts off by saying she's no health guru, she's no authority figure and can't rightfully give out health advice but devotes a sizeable portion of the book telling you what supplements to take, how you should exercise, nutrition tips as if she is an expert! I wouldn't have minded one or two chapters devoted to her health and beauty routine but it's pretty much the entire book with the exception of two bookend chapters.

In all, if you're interested in how Raquel Welch takes care of herself, her ideas on staying healthy, menopause, hormone therapy, tips for dating younger men, yoga and how sex is overrated, by all means, get this book! If you're looking for a biography/autobiography about Raquel Welch ... this isn't it. In away she comes off as a bit conceited in this book because she goes on at great length about how she maintains her looks, her sex appeal, her body and there's very little about her life or what drives her. To me, it's a let down because I was really looking forward to reading a book written in her own words (or at the hands of a ghostwriter) that'd really show and explain who she is and what's driven her and made her such a star. There's very little personality in 'Beyond the Cleavage' and a lot of superficiality on display. My recommendation is that you skip this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars List of Yoga Exercises in This Book
I have had this book and the accompanying tape ever since the 1980's when it first came out. Both products are 5 star and I would give them 10 if I could.Raquel did a lovely job with the book and tape, very high quality, some of her best work. You can tell she really believed in it and had taken the time to build her knowledge. My advice is to get the book on Amazon, and go at your own pace, the step by step photos and explanations are detailed, yet easy to understand.

BACK STORY:
The reason the tape which goes with this book will never be put into DVD format, unless you do it yourself at home for personal use, is because Bikram sued Raquel. His claim was that the particular arrangement of yoga poses was patented and copyrighted by him, and the court unfortunately agreed with him. That's how he got his fancy house in Beverly Hills, with Raquel's money. My, my, what a jealous temper tantrum, just because she did such a nice job with it.

IMHO Bikram was hypocritical because HIS teacher, by the last name of Ghosh, had actually done the work of putting this series together, and it was customized to Bikram's physical problems that he was trying to recover from.Bikram didn't start teaching this series until the year after his teacher's death, so of course he didn't have to pay his own teacher any royalties.Yoga has been around for 5,000 years and this type of behavior does not make a good impression on me, plus the fact that I am heat sensitive, so I will NEVER patronize a Bikram studio at $18 per visit.I happily do the exercises at home. Here's the list, and if you don't have the book yet and want to start right away, you can get a lot of information from the Yoga Journal website.

5-0 out of 5 stars Raquel Welch Total Beauty and Fitness Program
I have studied yoga for many years and this is by far the best yoga book available even today, several years after the book was originally published. The descriptions are very detailed. Raquel Welch not only tells you how to do each pose, but she also tells you what organs in the body the pose will help. She makes it very easy for you. You have to practice the poses consistently for several months to see the results. If you do so, you will not be disappointed. Several years ago, I did this program six days a week and within about 5 months I got into the best shape of my life. It smoothed out every bulge. Now,two children and several years later, I am looking to get back into shape. I know what this book can do for me. So, I am going straight for it once again.

4-0 out of 5 stars a good start
this is the first yoga experience for me and i found it helpful. The only thing i wasnt too pleased about having it only in written form, i think its a little distracting to have to constantly look over to see the next move.

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST AND FASTEST RESULTS EVER!!
Originally got this video many years ago, loaned it and never got it back.Eventually I found another copy and I'll never let it go!Raquel's series of yoga poses has consistently given me the best and the fastest results of any exercise program I have ever tried, without exception!Take it slow at first and work yourself up to where you need to be, you'll find that you even carry yourself differently, like a dancer, as even your posture becomes it's very best. For me, nothing comes close to the results acheived with Raquel's Total Beauty yoga workout.

5-0 out of 5 stars Elegant, easy to follow, challenging
This is a fantastic book with the Bikram yoga sequence, presented in a much more clear, easy to follow way (step by step), unlike Bikram's book which is essentially useless for home exercisers, since it has only one photo for each pose with the finished move, without showing how to get there.

Raquel Welch has surprisingly good form. This book is a must have for yoga lovers who dislike endless sun salutations - not a single one here! highly recommended! ... Read more

Product Description
Since her entree to the Hollywood scene in the 1960s, Raquel Welch has been a symbol of glamour and sex appeal whose honesty, high energy, and self-deprecating sense of humor are greatly admired by her fans. She has won a Golden Globe for her role in The Three Musketeers, starred in many films, including One Million Years, B.C., and played the role of a transsexual opposite Mae West in the cult favorite Myra Breckenridge. Whether refusing to change her name to Debbie--because producers considered ''Raquel'' too ethnic--or to lie about her age, even to the detriment of her career, she has evolved elegantly over time into a true champion for women who defy traditional aging. In Raquel, she opens up about her internal struggles to age gracefully in the often-harsh spotlight of Hollywood and to make peace with the sometimes uncomfortable mantle of ''sex symbol,'' at the same time dispensing precious tips to all women about staying young in mind and body. She discloses the challenges of hitting forty and suffering all the ensuing stereotypes; how to cope with fifty, menopause, and shifting gears; and continuing into your sixties, sometimes with the challenges of dating and decisions about cosmetic surgery, all the while laying bare her own experiences of aging and maintaining and successful acting career. The book reveal the secrets of diet, exercise, and healthy living-including her early devotion to yoga and fitness--that she devised over the years, as well as the hair, makeup, and dressing tips that have allowed her to remain effortlessly beautiful into her late sixties. While her book will be a must-have for every woman in the baby boomer generation, her warm, often comically irreverent voice and her priceless advice, based on decades of experience in one of the toughest arenas for women, will have wide appeal. Raquel Welch remains one of the most vital and enduring female icons of her day. ... Read more

Excerpt: Jo Raquel Welch (née Tejada, born September 5, 1940) is an American actress, author and sex symbol. Welch was born Jo Raquel Tejada in Chicago, Illinois, the oldest of 3 children and the daughter of Josephine Sarah (née Hall) and Armando Carlos Tejada Urquizo. Her father, an aeronautical engineer, emigrated from La Paz, Bolivia; her mother (1911-2000) was North American, the daughter of architect Emery Stanford Hall and wife Clara Louise Adams. In 1959, Welch played the title role in the famous Ramona Pageant, a yearly outdoor play at Hemet, California, which is based on the novel Ramona by Helen Hunt Jackson and Bob Biloe. She became a weather forecaster at KFMB, a local San Diego television station. Because of her heavy schedule, she decided to leave college. Her marriage broke up and she moved with her two children, Damon and Latanne, to Dallas, Texas, where she modeled for Neiman Marcus and worked as a cocktail hostess, intending to move on to New York City from there. Instead, Welch moved back to California, found a place in Los Angeles and started making the rounds of the movie studios. She was cast in bit parts in two films and in the television shows Bewitched, McHale's Navy, and The Virginian, as well as on the weekly variety series The Hollywood Palace as a billboard girl and presenter of acts. Welch's first featured role came in the beach film A Swingin' Summer, which led to a contract with 20th Century Fox. She was subsequently cast in a leading role in the sci-fi hit Fantastic Voyage (1966), which made her a star. She was the last star created under the studio system.
