BARRY BEARS ALL
Face it - I was a fan of the Brady Bunch and - like other girls my age at the time - had a crush on Greg Brady, so "Growing Up Brady - I Was a Teenage Greg" really piqued my interest.

Firstly, this book is neither a memoir of Williams' growing up years - nor is it just another Brady trivia book.Actually, it is both - told from Williams' point of view.

In this book - chock full of Brady photos, lists, memorabilia and other stuff - you will not only find the typical Brady trivia but also the other untold stories of the Bradys - including their "relationships," the Reed/Schwartz feud, mishaps and near mishaps, and what REALLY happened to Tiger, the dog.He also includes other details of how the show got started (including the ORIGINAL choices for Carol and Alice!), as well as the post-Brady Bunch specials and reincarnations.He also gives a special tribute to Robert Reed (who - ironically - wrote the forward before his passing!).

Secondly, Williams also includes interviews with other members of the cast and crew of The Brady Bunch (including both Robert Reed and Creator Sherwood Schwartz) in order to keep the book objective.

Thirdly, this book is capped with a complete episode-by-episode guide of all 117 shows (including the pilot) of the original series.Rather than telling his story and the story of The Brady Bunch in a dry, bland way, he does it in a fun, humorous way.

So why then only 4 stars?

There are a few discrepancies between what Williams reports and what die-hard Brady fans actually remember of the episodes.Among these are:

Episode 36: "What Goes Up."Williams mentions that the only Brady gaffe to have hit the airwaves is when he turns to Jan on the trampoline and says, "Why don't you give it a try, Eve?"In that same episode, while Peter is on the trampoline, Carol says to him "Hey, go get 'em, Chris!"(This is per the book, "Bradymania.")

Episode 42: "Will the Real Jan Brady Please Stand Up?"Pamelyn Ferdin, who plays Jan's friend Lucy Winters in the show, was equally well-known as the voice of Lucy Van Pelt in the earlier "Peanuts" cartoons (which may be why they named her character "Lucy"!).

Episode 57: "My Sister, Benedict Arnold."The cheer Williams mentions in this recap is actually the one used in "Greg's Triangle" (Episode 86).The one actually used in this episode was "F-F-F-I-L-L-L-L-M-O-O-O-O-R-E Filmore Junior High!"I do have to agree with Williams about the "lifeless monotone," though!

Episode 67: "Cindy Brady, Lady."Even though Eric Shea - who plays Tommy in this episode - was the voice of Linus in some of the "Peanuts" cartoons, it was actually his older brother - Christopher Shea - who was the ORIGINAL voice of Linus!Eric Shea was succeeded by Stephen Shea as Linus' voice.

Discrepancies aside, this book is still a must for any Brady buff.

"Snap This Gem Of A Book Up!"
"Growing Up Brady" was one of the many paperback books that came out in the late nineties detailing behind-the-scenes anecodotes of long forgotten TV shows. In this case the series is "The Brady Bunch", one of the most beloved sitcoms ever televised. Written by Greg Brady himself, Barry Williams, "Growing Up Brady" takes the reader behind the facade of a harmless situation comedy, discussing the highs and lows into making a TV show week after week with nine leads, six of whom were children. Creating and producing a TV sitcom may come across as an easy task to most people, but Mr. Williams discusses the problems with scripts, work schedules, cast relations, and the bitterness and insubordination of Robert Reed who played the dad. Reed was a trained Shakspearean actor who loathed "The Brady Bunch" and who tried making the series into something resembling a theatre play, but to no avail. Willims discusses the problems beset by the producers in dealing with Reed and how if a sixth season would come to be, it would be without the dad. The book comes with great interviews with Sherwood Swartz who created the series as well as cast members, and the best part is a chapter detailing every episode along with highlights and plot synposis. This is a book every "Brady Bunch" enthusiast must have. "Growing Up Brady" was even turned into a made-for TV movie of the week several years ago. Don't forget the entire "Brady Bunch" series is available on DVD and look for the well-written book on Maureen McCormick's life called "Here's The Story" that details her years on the series as well as her addiction to cocaine after the sitcom left the airwaves.

Brady Shmady
I gave this book as a gift along with the one written by the actress who played Marsha Bradey.Was told the one by Marsha was a better read.

I READ THIS BOOK YEARS AGO. BACK IN THE "90'S" WHEN I READ "BRANDYMANIA" I DON'T REMEMBER WHAT YEAR THIS BOOK WAS PUBLISHED BUT IT WAS PROBABLY ABOUT 20 YEARS AFTER THE BRADY BUNCH WENT INTO SYNDICATION. AS I HAVE MENTIONED ELSEWHERE, I SAW THE MOVIE ABOUT THIS BOOK. BOTH WERE EXCELLENT. OF COURSE THE MOVIE DID NOT BEGIN TO BE HALF AS GOOD AS THE BOOK. IT WAS SO STRAIGHT FORWARD AND VERY DETAILED. I THINK I WAS ABOUT 13 WHEN I DISCOVERED THE BRADY BUNCH. I DIDN'T THINK OR HAVE A CLUE THAT I WOULD BE STILL AS BIG OF A FAN AS I WAS OVER 35 YEARS AGO. I HOPE EVERY BRADY BUNCH FAN OUT THERE READ BARRY'S BOOK. IT IS WELL WORTH YOUR MONEY WHEN YOU INVEST IN SOMETHING WORTH READING AND THIS BOOK IS WORTH READING.

Only one of its kind
This is a different kettle of fish to Tony Attwood. But very valuable. Tony is a god and the tone is optimistic generally which is good as an introduction but he doesn't get to the nitty gritty of faecal soiling or being awake all night! This book is more directly concerned with specific problems of behaviour. Education is not covered.I wish I had had it when my own AS child was awake all night long.I would have tried the technique that keeps them up 1 hour longer than the time they drop off eventually!

Very practical, very sensible.If you havnt got a particular problem they discuss then thank your lucky stars and be grateful.If you have then this will give you good advice.

As an athlete, Steve has "done it all." In 1978, he graduated from Lakewood High in Colorado. Recruited heavily by many major colleges, the star athlete eventually accepted an athletic scholarship to the University of Oklahoma. Steve is one of very few legitimate wrestlers to make the transition from the amateur ranks to the professional wrestling ring. While at the University of Oklahoma, he was a two-time Big Eight free-style wrestling champion. As a collegiate football player, he was also a two-time Big Eight champion. Under legendary coach Barry Switzer, Steve went to three major Orange Bowls, the Sun Bowl, and the Fiesta Bowl. He also played professional football as a defensive nose guard for the New Jersey Generals in the United States Football League (USFL). Because of his amateur wrestling background, Steve was generally regarded as one of the most dangerous "shooters" in the business. This tough reputation earned him the nickname "Dr. Death." For the past 20-plus years, he has worked for all major wrestling promotions throughout the world, including World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). Steve has held numerous titles and received a plethora of accolades during his career. In 1985, he was named Most Improved Wrestlerand First Runner-Up, Tag Team of the Year (with Ted DiBiase). One year later, he defeated the One Man Gang at the 21:43 mark in Houston, Texas, to become the winner of the $50,000 Pro Wrestling Illustrated/UWF Challenge Cup Tournament. In 1991, Steve and his partner, Terry Gordy, became the first American tag team to win All Japan's annual tag-team tournament in consecutive years. Most recently, in 2003, Steve won the NWA Heavyweight title from Terry Taylor in China. Steve is also an Asian wrestling icon, for he is the only American who has ever worked for two major companies at the same time in Japan--New Japan and All Japan.

Excellent Read
This is an excellent read. Steve covered the highights and lowlights and did so in an open, honest manner. May he RIP.

Should have been so much more
During the 1980's and 1990's Steve Williams was one of my favorite wrestlers.Steve Williams was a legit tough guy and a tremendous collegiate wrestler and football player.In the pro wrestling ring he brought believability and intensity to his matches and was one of the top stars in Japan.

I doubt you'd know most any of that from reading this book.

Steve Williams glosses over so much of his career.The book was written with the emphasis on his amazing battle against cancer which he even came back from.That's a good story but wrestling fans buy wrestling books for wrestling stories and sadly this book was light on them.

Likewise, Steve Williams greatest success came in Japan yet his Japanese years are glossed over as well.There are probably many great stories that could have been told about Terry Gordy, Stan Hansen, Mitsuharu Misawa, Kenta Kobashi, and the many others he teamed with and wrestled in All-Japan.

I was really hoping to learn something from this book but sadly I didn't.

I recommend this book only if you don't know anything about Dr. Death and want to but if you're a hard core wrestling fan I believe you'll be disappointed.

This book is extremely well written. I didn't want to put it down. The stories, the matches, and the incredible triumph in faith should catapult this to the bestseller list. TWO THUMBS`UP!

A heartwarming story of an imperfect man, highly recommended to wrestling fans and wrestling historians alike.
Japanese & Mid South Wrestling Legend "Dr. Death" Steve Williams brings an inspirational story of his life, career, and battle with throat cancer. He tells of his college football career and how he failed to make the jump to the now-defunct USFL. He vowed to a pro wrestling trainer to never play football professionally again, and he emerged on the Mid-South Wrestling circuit, the UWF - two of them no less, and WCW. He regales the reader with his run in Japan, where he gained most of his fame, and why he preferred promotions there over American promotions. And then he speaks of how all his sports achievements ultimately meant nothing, when he was diagnosed with throat cancer and found hope in religion. A heartwarming story of an imperfect man, highly recommended to wrestling fans and wrestling historians alike.

Maybe it's my fault I went into this book with high expectations, but I was very disappointed with this book. Not much in the way of inside stories. I've alwas been a fan of Doc, but I think you'd need to be a HUGE fan of Steve Williams to think this book is anything better than OK. ... Read more

A good introduction for the typical materials scientist
Dave Williams and Barry Carter have done a good job assembling this introduction to transmission electron microscopy based on their long and active careers in teaching and research.For the typical materials science upper class undergraduate or beginning graduate student, this textbook should serve as a good introduction.Teaching this complex and multifaceted technique is a herculean task--let alone writing a text book!That said, this is not the kind of book that I would have preferred as a novice in this field.I usually prefer books that concentrate on the more difficult and mathematically challenging concepts and leave other topics to anthologies such as this book or to review articles.Although this book gives a pretty reasonable introduction to the Howie-Whelan equations, it does not really go into Cowley-Moodie mulitislice theory.This is to be expected really, since understanding multislice theory requires the reader to have a stronger physics and mathematics background than that possessed by most materials scientists.However, for the student who is already quite familiar with the Schrodinger equation and has the equivalent of a B.S. in physics (as I did when I started materials science grad school) I would recommend Marc De Graef's book Introduction to Conventional Transmission Electron Microscopy (Cambridge Solid State Science Series) as a more satisfying introduction to TEM (and which addresses both the Howie-Whelan and multislice approaches--as well as the unifying concept of the Sturkey scattering matrix).After reading De Graef's book you can then read Williams and Carter for an introduction to many other important topics.

waste too many pages
Catalogs and appendix of four books at the begining and ending of each book are extractly the same. Why do they put them in all four books to increase the whole pages and increase the price. The four books could be two books of same pages with no difference in contents.
Beside that, it's a very good text book.

TEM Bible
I bought this book as soon as I found out I would likely get a job working with TEMs.I had already bought a very physics oriented book by Reimer that is also excellent, but this book is simply a joy to read.Ample color diagrams and real micrographs together with witty, keen narrative make it the first technical book in years that I have read till the wee hours of the morning.I think that if you can read the whole book and retain 90% of what you have read and have the opportunity to apply it in real life on an actual TEM then you will be able to call yourself a TEM expert of sorts.

I have found that reading the Reimer text together with this one makes a hard to beat combination. When the physics gets too tough in Reimer I take a break and read this text and get a better intuitive grasp of the material or an alternate derivation with a few less triple integrals, then delve back into Reimer with renewed vigor.

To the authors, I would like to buy you both a round of beers some day, this text is timely and I am glad to have found it when I did.

The bible of electron microscopy
If you are ever going to touch an electron microscope - especially a transmission type electron microscope - make sure that you have this book readily available to you. You do not necessarily need the new edition. The contents are pretty much the same. However - while the first edition was easy to read, the second is even more so. The occasional colour images and a modernized language really do help. Also make sure to get the paperback edition, which is conveniently divided into four books.

Forget Dubin
This book is so far ahead of Dubin...I am not a Clinical Exercise Physiologist, but I was told about this book and tried it.Some 12 lead issues that were a little fuzzy before became very clear after reading this.The rhythm section is also very good and the website that comes with it is great. Love it and would recomend it to anyone who really wants to learn EKG.

No dissappointment. Very entertaining and revealing.
Barry Williams comes through with the gritty goods on the off-set romances between the on-set Brady kids! Also, lots of interesting and revealing tid-bits about the show and the cast. Williams's honest, no-holds-barreddiscussion of his early professional experiences is also entertaining. Onedisappointment is that the audio version doesn't address "Cyndi's neardrowning in Hawaii". Nor does Williams' address some of the morecontroversial personal issues (revealed in the tabloids) of some of hiscastmates. But all in all, a resounding thumbs up! ... Read more

Amazing
Having read the prior Jelks and Zide, and the classic Dutton atlas, I must say that this book is excellent and certainly an addition to my library. The cadaver dissections are truly excellent as are the photographs. Probably most impressive about this book is the detail with which the course of the facial nerve is described in the mid- and upper- face. What is really excellent about is how it is presented so as to avoid confusion. As is emphasized in the book's title, it is anatomy AROUND the orbit.

This book does not simply contain the same information presented in many other anatomy books, nor is it just a new edition put out to make more money. Any facial surgeon should study this book. Highly recommended. Certainly the price is very fair. The Knize book is good, but half of the Knize book is on surgical technique for aesthetic procedures rather than on anatomy (some may view that as a bonus). And the Knize book is much less concise than this new Zide book in terms of how the anatomy is presented.Some of the figure descriptions in the Knize book are half a page long. You might say the two books complement eachother.

I highly recommend this new peri-orbital anatomy book.

Excellent text
A must have surgical anatomy atlas especially for orbital trauma. The illustrations and pictured fresh cadaver specimens completely cover relevant orbital anatomy for surgical approaches involving the orbit. The included disc media is a nice supplement. Agree with other review - highly recommended.

An excellent surgical atlas with outstanding dissections and explanations of relevant topics
This book is an outstanding surgical anatomy atlas. The fresh-frozen cadavers are beautifully dissected, discussions are thoughtful, illustrations are well used, and the section on blocks is very helpful. The chapters on the lower eyelid and the facial nerve are truly outstanding. Together with the forehead anatomy book by Knize, these two books belong on the shelf of every oculofacial plastic surgeon. The CD with photos and illustrations is a nice bonus.
