- Kursusbeskrivelse Acting Techniques for Directors
"If a director were to take only one workshop, this would be the one." This class explores the actor craft, emotional life, techniques, concerns and especially the actors needs and problems. Through scene study, improvisations, exercises and script analysis, we de-mystify the actors craft, and develop a range of techniques that will ultimately prove invaluable to directors and writers in their own work.
This course provides tools, techniques and principles Directors can use immediately in casting, rehearsal and on the set. Writers will learn to create better scene structure and more effective dialogue. Producers will learn how to better communicate with both actors and directors. Cinematographers and editors will also benefit from this class by putting themselves in the actors shoes.
Participants will perform improvs and acting exercises, looking at the "Strasberg Method," as well as Meisner, Stella Adler and Stanislavski techniques. You will also learn how to structure a performances in order to tell the story, and, most importantly, how to communicate and collaborate with the actors at all stages of a film production.
Course Structure:
Mornings: Lectures and screenings
Afternoons: Acting exercises
Evenings: Screenings, critiques and discussion

PERFORMANCE WORKSHOPS
By Gregory Justice INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOP #1 Acting Up in the Corporate World: The Use of Acting Techniques in Business, Training and Sales. This workshop looks at some of the techniques used by professional theatre, film and television performers that can be used to enhance business and sales presentations and communication. Whether you are trying to reach an audience of four or 400 these techniques, used by performers for generations, will enhance your own speaking and performance abilities. The slightly participatory workshop is informative, fun and probably quite different from any other workshop you have taken on presentation skills. The workshop includes components of all the other workshops the Greg Justice offers. It shares substantial performance techniques without going into great detail. This workshop can last from 50-90 minutes and can accommodate between 10-400 participants. WORKSHOP #2 move, Move, MOVE: The Physical Instrument of the Business Professional.

Taught in a friendly and supportive environment, this introductory course explores a series of fundamental acting techniques and exercises which enable the participants to be more relaxed, comfortable and "present" in public situations, on stage, or in front of a camera. Focusing on monologues and scene work, this survey-style course is ideal for those people who have always been intrigued with the possibility of becoming an actor, those who want to be more emotionally expressive and articulate, or for those whose careers involve challenging public speaking or business presentations. Friends and family will be invited to the final in-course presentation. No prerequisite. This course is followed next semester by Acting for Film.

Ilja is both magician and actor, with more than his fair share of theatrical work under his belt, including lately some directing besides. He has also conducted acting workshops for both adults and children. In what we hope to be a series of articles, Ilja demonstrates some of the physical and mental exercises for actors. Coupled with Rich Tenace's brilliant theories in performing, this is sure to make for an exciting and magic-changing tool for performers. Welcome to a new series of articles that I call "The workout room". Let me begin with a well known phrase: "A magician is an actor playing the part of a magician." Agree?

Basic Acting Techniques Back to the DramaClub Training Manual
The following are some specific skill required by actors, from entrance on to the stage to final curtain call. Entering the Stage We believe that the two most difficult things in drama are:
    • getting on stage, and,
    • getting off stage.
Entrances are difficult since the entrance will "set the stage" as to how the audience will feel about the entire presentation. The cast will have a great deal of difficulty recovering from a poor or weak entrance. For this reason it is only wise to spend a substantial amount of effort in rehearsals on entrances. Entering the stage must tell the audience that:
    • you have come from a definite place,
    • are going to a definite place,
    • for a definite reason,
    • in a definite state of mind.
Your every action must put this across to the audience. In order to be convincing you must be in character well before going on stage. We always coach our actors to get into character immediately after arriving at the church for the drama presentation. We ask that there be no guests allowed backstage and that there be relative quiet and peacefulness. The stage manager will review with each actor any updates or information which they must know such as hand props, reminders of cues, etc. Any wardrobe or makeup will be attended to at this time. We sometimes see instances where an actor is frantically studying lines just prior to the performance. This is really a waste of time and a distraction. The time has long passed where study of lines will be of any assistance therefore there is no need for going over the script.

Its lineage can be traced in a continuous line further back than any other acting family in Japan. Nakamura Kantaro was born into the family 20 years ago.
