Receiving Acupressure

An acupressure session is carried out in a relaxed environment and does not require removing your clothes. A typical session includes an initial 5-10 minute chat when your therapist will assess you using techniques from traditional oriental medicine. This includes pulse, tongue, face and five element diagnosis. Different styles of acupressure will then be combined using points all over the body. At the end of the session your therapist may give you some acupressure self-help techniques or advice on five element food balancing.
Five Element Food Balancing
Through assessment during the acupressure session the practioner will be able to assess imbalances in the body. This can then be applied to the ancient Chinese technique of five element food balancing which will identify which foods to increase or decrease in your diet to achieve balance and maintain health.

meridians . There are fourteen main meridian lines each of which corresponds to an individual organ of the body. When the vital energies are able to flow through the meridians in a balanced and even way the result is good health. However, when we experience pain or illness it is an indication that there is a block or leak in the energy flow within your body. Healing Response . Pain or injury act to alert the body that damage control is needed, at which point the Healing Response begins and endorphins are generated to repair the affected area. This increases the heart rate and alters the blood pressure to speed up the elimination of toxins from the damaged area.

Part 1 : Those with needles

"Acus" = latin for needle
" Acupressure is a non-invasive and effective means of managing many common pain and stress syndromes. Acupuncture is an invasive needling technique for the same syndromes, using the same loci. " If you have input on the needle-version, please send a mail to acupressure.org.
Part 2 : Those without needles There are only few advocates of the non-invasive needle technique. One of them is the A-Q-PRESSOR of russian origin.
From Gail Sweet
"Acupressure is an ancient Asian healing art that uses the fingers to press key points on the surface of the skin and thus stimulate the body's immune system to self heal. When stimulated, these points relieve muscular tension, and promote the release of endorphins neurochemicals that relieve pain. Acupressure uses the same points and meridians (patterns of energy flow) as acupuncture, but instead of needles, treats with gentle, firm pressure of fingers and hands. With acupressure, the client may remain fully clothed, and suffer no side effects from drugs, while experiencing a safe treatment. It is an excellent way to balance the body and maintain good health by reducing tension, increasing circulation and strengthening the body's resistance to illness. "

What is Acupressure?
A cupressure is an ancient healing art
developed in Asia over 5,000 years ago that uses the fingers to press key points on the surface of the skin to stimulate the body's natural self-curative abilities. When these points are pressed, they release muscular tension and promote the circulation of blood and the body's life force energy to aid healing. Acupuncture and acupressure use the same points, but acupuncture employs needles, while acupressure uses gentle but firm pressure.
Advantages of using acupressure include relieving pain, balancing the body and maintaining good health. The healing touch of acupressure reduces tension, increases circulation, and enables the body to relax deeply. By relieving stress, acupressure strengthens resistance to disease and promotes wellness.

The purpose of herbal medicine is to assist the recuperative processes in the body, the body's innate healing machinery to restore balance known in physiology as homoeostasis. For more information Go To Over five thousand years ago, the Chinese discovered that when certain points on the body are pressed, or heated, certain ailments are relieved. The beneficial effects are thought to be due to the release of energy blocks in the meridians. As the art developed, more and more points were discovered that not only alleviated pain, but influenced the functioning of internal organs and body systems. Whereas, acupuncture uses needles, acupressure uses pressure of the fingers and hands. Like acupuncture, acupressure is based on the concept of
