    Profile: NELLIE Y. McKAY (Ph.D., Harvard University, 1977) specializes in nineteenth and twentieth-century African American literature with an emphasis on fiction, autobiography, and the writings of black women. She is Co-Editor with Henry Louis Gates, Jr. of the Norton Anthology of African American Literature (1996); author of Jean Toomer, The Artist: A Study of His Literary Life and Work (1984); editor of Critical Essays on Toni Morrison (1988); and co-editor of the Norton Critical Edition of Harriet Jacobs's Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl; Approaches to Teaching the Novels of Toni Morrison, and Beloved: A Casebook . Professor McKay has contributed scholarly essays to literary journals and literary and historical dictionaries, and has written a number of introductions and afterwords to new and recently reprinted texts in African American and women's writings. With Professor Stanlie James, she is currently co-editing the 20th Anniversary edition of All the Women Are White All the Blacks Are Men But Some of Us Are Brave Education:
