AALCS African American Literature and Culture Society

From the outset, the Executive Director and Executive Coordinators of the American Literature Assocation (ALA) sought to recognize and promote such well established African American literature author societies as the Richard Wright, Zora Neale Hurston and Langston Hughes Societies. Simultaneously, they sought to create other societies and reading groups for non-represented authors and an umbrella organization for this literary tradition as a whole. As a result four societies have been formed: the Toni Morrison, Charles Chesnutt, John Edgar Wideman, and George Moses Horton Societies. The African American Literature and Culture Society (AALCS) became the umbrella organization, during the ALA's fourth annual conference, May 28-30, 1993, at the Renaissance Harborplace Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland. Online Catalog (the PAC)
The SDSU library provides an online catalog (the PAC ) for locating materials in its collection. Materials can be accessed in a variety of ways, including by title, author, subject, or keyword. The PAC can also tell you whether the library owns a periodical, but it doesn't index the individual articles in those periodicals. For information on how to access periodical articles, please see the section on periodical indexes . Subject Headings used in the PAC are defined in the Library of Congress Subject Headings books located near the General Reference Desk on the first floor. When conducting research on a particular author, it is important to remember to search for books about an author by searching for the author as a subject . Selecting author will allow you to locate only those books actually written by an author.
