The openings marked the culmination of years of planning and dedication on the part of library staff and administration, city administration and advisory boards, and hundreds of people in the local community. Groups of local school children, the mayor and city council members, the superintendent of schools, a representative of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, and a mariachi band were among those on hand to celebrate the librariesÂ’ grand openings. The Palm View Community Center and Branch Library and the Lark Community Center and Branch Library each include 31,5000 total square feet (11,000 for the library and 20,500 for the community center). The community centers each include a gymnasium, an arts and crafts room, and an aerobics room. Each branch library includes a collection of more than 10,000 books and 12 Internet-ready computers.
