PNP MAJOR: Course Descriptions
Students with a second major in PNP take courses approved for one of two tracks: Cognitive Neuroscience (CN) or Language, Cognition, and Culture (LCC). Each track is composed of interdisciplinary courses offered by PNP itself, as well as selected courses from other departments. This part of the PNP website lists courses alphabetically by home department and provides the following information for each course:
  • Course number, title, and crosslistings
Effective F2002, most of the upper-division courses are also crosslisted with PNP Course description and prerequisites
NS=Natural Sciences and Math LA=Language and the Arts
SS=Social Sciences TH=Textual and Historical Studies
  • Timeslot and instructor for each time the course was offered between Fall 1998 and Fall 2002
**If stable, you can tentatively assume these timeslots for purposes of advance
    planning and verify them later.
**This is most relevant if the same instructor continues to teach the course.

The Social Studies Department provides a learning environment that encourages students to achieve at their fullest individual potential. The teachers use a variety of instructional techniques to address multiple learning styles. Examples might include simulations, various group and individual projects, cooperative grouping, teacher directed presentation and discussion, student directed presentation and discussion, debate, reading, writing, and research skills. In all courses, teachers require high quality work which reflects the development of complex thinking skills and effective communication. Work should be completed in a responsible and timely manner. We expect students to have basic technological skills for computer and word processing. The Social Studies Department offers a series of Honors Courses designed for the academically advanced, highly motivated and self-disciplined student. The ninth grade Honors course is a year long examination of American History and Government. Beginning in the tenth grade, courses are designed to prepare the student for various Advanced Placement examinations. Students may enter the Honors program at any grade level. For example, a student that is not in the ninth grade Honors course may take tenth grade A.P. American History. The Advanced Placement program is a cooperative effort between colleges and secondary schools that

We Have Added A New Site!
The Roundabout Has Moved!!
Welcome to the June edition of the Roundabout , our family newsletter. We are still offering you freebies, research information, shopping, music to listen to or download* family news to catch up on, fun things to do with the family, food links to great recipe sites, and much more! As usual, we are on the lookout for anything fun, informative and original. The Roundabout is now its own stand-alone site. It is now the fourth stand-alone site created and maintained by Connie Calabrese. The other three are: Totally Calabrese, (click here to visit) which together with its two sister sites, FairRaven's Circle, (click here to visit) and the NEW! Raven's Lodge, (click here to visit) now number close to 100 pages. There is so much to see and explore. We feel there is something for everyone. And if you don't find something you'd like to see here, please feel free to write us and tell us.
New Site Added! As I mentioned above, we have created a new website called, Raven's Lodge. This site is still in its infancy, but it already numbers over 20 pages and is coming on strong. The basic slant of the site are animals. From the Native American perspective. Being a lover of animals, I feel it is high time their voices are heard. I selected the Native American approach in presenting this site because of the reverence they place on the Earth and all her creatures. To visit, follow this link to the animals.
