Discovering and Nurturing Gifted Children Pilot Project
Introduction In 1998, The Welfare Association approached Al-Muntada with a working paper on the process of discovering and nurturing gifted children. Upon the Welfare Association's request, Al Muntada developed a detailed vision and implementation strategy and work plan of the project and began to implement the project in July of that year. In an attempt to establish a uniquely Palestinian method that incorporates universal standards for discovering and nurturing gifted children, Al Muntada formulated the vision and implementation modality based on a three pronged process. The process consisted of selecting the most promising children who prove to have above average abilities in certain aspects of their thinking processes, challenging them to become thinkers, evaluating their gained thinking skills in order to ascertain their giftedness and begin to provide the right environment to nurture that giftedness.
Objectives
The main objective of this pilot project was to provide a basis for the conception of a Palestinian program to discovery and nurturing of gifted children.

Young Judeae Programs International Jewish college Corps (American Jewish World Service) International Jewish College Corps (IJCC) is American Jewish World Service's program for Jewish college students and recent graduates. IJCC participants spend four weeks in Ghana or Honduras engaged in social justice and service work. Last year students in Ghana helped the local community build a schoolhouse that will enable Ghanaian students in the village of Ziavi-Lumi to have a permanent structure in which to learn. In Honduras the students helped the community of Brisas del Campo rebuild homes which were d estroyed in Hurricane Mitch. After the developing world experience, the two groups meet in Israel for 3 more weeks of service and study, focusing on the role Israel plays as a leader in international development, and on social justice challenges within Israel. In Israel the group participates in one service project in the Jewish community and one in the non-Jewish community. In addition, IJCC participants meet with Israeli Rabbis, scholars and activists who help them to consider the text bases forJewish social justice work and to look at Israel as a complex society.
