The Firehouse Grilling Cookbook: 150 Great Grilling Recipes Plus Safety Tips

by Joseph T. Bonanno Who better to know about grilling than firefighters? There is the obvious, but foolish association of cooking with fire and firefighters. The truth is simply that firefighting is a dangerous and stressful job, and during downtime at the station, what better or more relaxing way to spend it than cooking and eating? Joseph T. Bonanno has collected the favorite grilling recipes of firefighters around the country and compiled them in The Firehouse Grilling Cookbook . Bonanno is no stranger to firehouse cuisine or healthy food. An 18-year veteran of the New York City Fire Department and a certified sports nutritionist, he proved in his first book

2 green onions, chopped A few months ago my mom was hosting a family dinner and was wondering what kind of potato dish to serve. Sabrina, my brother's S.O. offered to make this simple, yet fabulous potato salad. In true Argentinean style, this salad uses lots of vinegar, which Sabrina says is a "table condiment" in that country much like ketchup is in Canada. Boil potatoes until softened but not mushy. Add rest of ingredients and mix. Serve cold. Summer 2000 RecipeNet Kitchen

ARGENTINEAN-STYLE PRIME RIB -... from the Rincon de Buenos Aires

Spring-summer/2002
INGREDIENTS

Chimichurri Sauce
PREPARATION
Choose a 12 lb.piece of prime rib. Rub sea salt all over the meat and cover it with a piece of cotton cloth. Leave in the refrigerator for about 48 hours. After that period, remove the cloth and bake at med-high temperature for 45 min. Upon removing from the oven, the meat will be sealed on the outside and very red on the inside. The next step is to cut vertically between the bones, making steaks that weigh approximately 2 lb. Mix all ingredients and let stand for at least an hour.
We recommend serving this dish with a lettuce, tomato and onion salad and a baked potato with a touch of butter. A good red wine is the perfect accompaniment for this savory dish.

001: What I thought of Argentinean "Shimauta"(April 07, 2002)
"Shimauta", a famous song by Kazuhisa Miyazawa, of The Boom , has been played in other Asian countries, and recently Alfredo Casero, Argentinean, sings this masterpiece of the Japanese band, classified at a high rank in the Argentine music scene(the popularity made it to be the cheer-up song for the Argentinean national team at the World Cup).
*Click here or here (the song no. 7) to listen to part of the original song by Kazuhisa Miyazawa and here for the Argentinean video.
I was very glad to see that in this way a Japanese song was accepted getting over the language barrier, given that in Argentina Japanese music is hardly heard. And both the accompanyment of sanshin(traditional instrument of Okinawa of three chords, a bit like guitar) and thel hayashi(a kind of chorus: in Argentina many Japanese people of Okinawan origen live and the female vocal for the chorus is a daughter of Okinawans) gives me a kind of sensation. When you see the video, however, many Japane people will find something strang, or in other words, they tend to find it hard to accept the combination of the music with anime images on the videoclip, different than the typical one they would imagine( what you see on this page, for instance

Portuguese is always spoken in the family home. It was her husband, not her, says Cristina, who had to learn the new language – "Of course! Well, if you have a fight, you have to win!" Music plays a big part in the life of the family. John learned percussion in Brazil and plays Latin music, and one of Cristina's sons is in a Brazilian percussion band.
Dende
Cristina learned to cook from her mother, starting as her kitchen-hand at the age of five, and she always loved being around the kitchen. While completing her secondary schooling, Cristina went to live with her aunt, who, she says, was the best cook in the family, and under her guidance Cristina further developed her own culinary skills.
She has never read a book about cooking. "You have to use trial and error with your palate," she says. Having learned to add just the right amount of ingredients, she explains that cooking like this, it's much easier to be creative with recipes.
Cristina is very committed to producing healthy food – she uses organic, biodynamic ingredients and free-range eggs. Her food philosophy is simple; "I like cooking gracefully," she says.

    Hobb(i)es and other interests:
This site hasn't been seriously worked at for years, sorry. Thus, the layout is still miserable, the content less than satisfying, and some links may be broken. I warned you!
Nevertheless, you are welcome to look , there might be something interesting here, too. I just love Calvin 's philosophical moments, but here I have a better answer:
    • Who would leave a mystery unsolved?
    • Who would turn off the TV before the murderer is found?
    • Why then should mathematical mysteries be left unsolved?
    • Aren't facts boring only when they have nothing to do with us?
    • What better satisfaction is there than solving a hard problem?
Mathematics indeed has literary qualities - the history of a great mathematical discovery can be fascinating, the life of a great mathematician interesting, a challenging problem intriguing. Let's savor it!
    Computers
Here I am planning to put interesting links about computers. My first computer was an Atari 1040 ST, with 1MB RAM and a cutesy black-and-white 640x400-pixel 13'' mini-screen. Nevertheless, it did word-processing and games pretty well, compared to the XT boat anchors that were so popular at that time. For some time now I have been using public machines, running VM/CMS, DOS, Windows 3.1, MacOS, UNIX, and finally NeXTStep, which I find the best mixture of power, versatility, ease-of-use, and nice design. Unfortunately it is lacking a variety of mature software. My own PC now runs Windows 95, Windows NT 4.0, RedHat Linux, and Windows 98, allowing me to further expand my horizon.

Cooking collections Argentinean beef is some of the best in the world! A bit of a backgrounder A little off topic but an explanation of the love of beef We are searching for some construction tips on how to make an authentic Argentinean parrilla, as seen during a visit to Buenoes Aries in '92. If you could help us out, please email us . Until we find the details here are our findings: Parrilla ( HOT grilling :) et recetas ( recipes !:) http://www.parrilla.com/cooking.html http://argentina.informatik.uni-muenchen.de/recetas/

    MATE ( tea )
In Argentina when we meet with our family or friends we usually drink MATE. This is a sort of beverage like tea, for you to picture in mind, although its taste is very different. Mate stands for the quichua (Indian tribe from Argentina) `mati`, what means `small pumpkin`. The plant where the raw material comes is `Yerba Mate`. What are used are the dried and smashed leaves. This plant is grown in Tropical areas, as Corrientes and Missiones. It can be drunk any time, and there are two variants, `dulce` (with sugar) or `amargo` (no sugar at all) I like the second one as it is so pungent! Well, first you place the `bombisha` (metal straw ) in the mate (bowl made of a gourd, silver-plated metal specially designed to hold the yerba), then you have to fill the mate with yerba and finally you add hot water (never boiled!) A result is a delicious beverage full of sensations you will never forget!
