Career Development and Recruitment Health Care Career Clubs are sponsored by Arkansas Farm Bureau, Arkansas Academy of Family Physicians, AHEC , Arkansas Blue Cross, Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas, Southwestern Bell and DHEC. These career clubs are located in four Delta Hospitals (Helena, Dumas, Forrest City and Lake Village). Ninth through twelfth grade students attended monthly sessions where they learned about different health careers and good health practices. Health Careers in Arkansas, a book listing health careers available in the state, was distributed to all health club members and to counselors and teachers in area schools. M*A*S*H, a two-week program for 9-12 graders, provided high school students in Helena, Forrest City Dumas, and Lake Village with an intense, hands-on experience in a variety of health care fields and topics. M*A*S*H Alum camps were held in Helena and Forrest City. Field trips were taken to UAMS, Arkansas Children's Hospital, the AHECs in Pine Bluff and Jonesboro and a forensic laboratory in Memphis. A total of 60 students attended these programs. Seven medical students participated in the summer rural preceptorship program , gaining valuable clinical experience. | |
