general information.
http://www.maes-y-gwernen.co.uk/nature/
The five hundred square kilometres of mountains, rolling hills and wooded river valleys designated as the Brecon Beacons National Park are home to a wide variety of wildlife, some of which is rarely found elsewhere in Britain. The park is located in South Wales, 200 miles West of London (served by the M4 motorway) and 160 miles South of Birmingham ( served by the M5 and M50 motorways). The numerous small mammals, fish, wild flowers, and ancient hedgerows make this area an ideal habitat for many wild life species as well as providing ample food resources for the larger birds of prey which are in evidence throughout the year. The Park offers excellent walking and this is the best way to see the wildlife without creating undue disturbance of the environment. The Brecon Beacons themselves are a range of mountains and uplands which are drained by fast flowing rivers. These rivers have cut deep into the landscape and as they fall towards the South the valleys become wooded and feature numerous waterfalls, which add to the natural appeal of the area for both humans and wildlife. Hawks, Buzzards, Merlins, Kestrels, and Owls of various sizes now compete with the formerly rare Red Kites who's numbers have increased in the area in recent years.

A1-Raptor nutritional supplements for birds of prey are manufactured in the UK and distributed to falconers and other bird of prey keepers, breeders, and rehabbers within the UK and overseas by Falconiform Research, an organisation with over 37 years experience of keeping, training, breeding and researching captive birds of prey. A1-Raptor nutritional supplements have been carefully developed to meet the specific unique nutritional requirements of captive birds of prey.
History
Falconiform Research first began marketing A1-Raptor nutritional supplements in 1983, although research and development of the products had started as early as 1976. The original intention was to only produce nutritional supplements for Falconiform Research's own breeding, training and research project, but demand from falconers, breeders and other bird of prey keepers who had observed the success of the supplements resulted in a decision to make the supplements available to the falconry and bird of prey keeping communities at large in April, 1983.
Research and development of A1-Raptor nutritional supplements for birds of prey is a continuous on-going process. All products are subject to continual assessment and improvement and are fully tested before general release in Falconiform Research's extensive breeding, training and research project.Research and development is self financing. Control of Various Problem Wildlife Using Birds of Prey. This is a general document written to send to the countless people who phone us re advice over the control of 'pest species' it is not written as a definitive statement, is subject to change and because of the wide nature of the enquiries we have it is broadly written. Over the years we have been contacted by countless individuals, businesses, councils, farmers, vineyards, fruit growers and the Forces, to discuss the problems and merits of using raptors (birds of prey), to scare away wild birds and occasionally mammals. Several things have to be understood before even contemplating this method of wildlife control. Raptors and their quarry live naturally side by side in the wild. Contrary to popular belief, if a pair of wild raptors moves into an area, the wildlife does not move out. If they did, then wherever raptors live and hunt there would be no quarry. Wild birds and mammals treat raptors in the same way humans treat traffic - they don't stand in the way. You only have to see a wildlife programme with lions in hunting mode, to notice how herds of prey victims (zebra and the like) watch lions kill members of their own herds and then return to feeding in minutes. Here at The National Birds of Prey Centre we fly between twenty to forty raptors per day throughout the year, many of which will hunt given the option. The species vary to include eagles, hawks, buzzards, falcons, owls and many others. Yet we have more wildlife on our land than other local land owners. Pigeons, Magpies, Starlings, Sparrows, Rabbits and numerous other species breed on our twelve acres every year. Gulls fly over daily, and will often mob our birds, as will crows if they nest on our land, the only reason crows don't nest here is that we shoot them. We also have two fruit farms over which our birds fly and hunt regularly and this has no effect on the small birds eating the fruit or the rabbits barking the trees.

An introduction to Birds of Prey
Raptors are one of the most successful and widely distributed bird groups in the world. Raptors are found on every continent (except Antarctica) and in virtually every habitat type on the planet.
There are two main groups or orders: Falconiformes (diurnal or daytime raptors) and Strigiformes (owls). Their variety is stunning, with nearly 300 species of diurnal raptors and more than 200 species of owls. Before going into the various groups, what is a 'raptor'? What does it mean? The word raptor comes from a Latin word, rapere, meaning to seize and carry off or plunder. It is a general term used to cover all birds of prey. Given the highly predatory nature of many birds in this group, it is a very appropriate word to use. There are five main groups of Falconiformes:
    1) New World Vultures
    2) Falcons and relations
    3) Hawks and relations
    4) Secretary Birds
    5) Ospreys These are very broad groupings. Strigiformes, the owls, are less complex. There are two main groups:
