The competitive events offered through NDSA have been organized with careful criteria to maximize the true sports nature of the competitions involving individuals with physical disabilities. NDSA holds clinics throughout the US where individuals who wish to serve as competition officials must demonstrate their abilities.
Along with six other national disability sports organizations, NDSA is a Community Based Organization (CBO) member of the United States Olympic Committee, joins such national groups as the YMCA, Jewish Community Centers, the Boys and Girls Club and similar organizations to form the CBO Council. The NDSA board of directors has begun an aggressive national marketing campaign to reach out to any and all individuals who could benefit from participation in sports, recreation and fitness activities and increase athletic membership, especially among youth. The NDSA firmly believes in the importance of youngsters with disabilities capitalizing on their abilities and potential athletic success.

"The Plan"
A Port Lands Park, Recreation Centre and Waterfront Vision for Toronto INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this document is to set out a proposal for developing a multi-sport recreation zone and park in Toronto's Port Lands and vast waterfront. A preliminary overview which summarises the key points of this concept is set out below. It is proposed that this plan for alternate use of the Port Lands and waterfront is appropriate for a complete feasibility study. As this project is currently at the conceptual stage, all suggestions and input are welcomed.
The document addresses the following areas:
  • Summary Background Location Access The Proposed Sports and Facilities Current Land Ownership and Use Input from Interest Groups Buffer Zone Impact on Commercial/Industrial Activity Timing Financing Additional Information
  • 1. SUMMARY
    2. BACKGROUND
Toronto, the largest municipality in Canada, does not have centrally located fields and venues dedicated to popular amateur land sports. In addition, the city's courses for amateur water sports such as rowing, canoeing, kayaking, and dragon-boating are at capacity and in need of improvement and expansion. A cash infusion to develop, update and face-lift these existing facilities will create a generous network of protected green space and water sport sites throughout the Port Lands and the entire Toronto waterfront. This will include the East and West Beaches of Toronto and west to Etobicoke. The 2008 Olympic Bid proposed the development of the Port Lands into such a multi-sport destination. While development to such a large scale is not practical or feasible, development of fields and facilities for grassroots amateur sport is compatible with waterfront planning and as such achievable.
