Background
[top of page] Having been a part of the Ottoman Empire, the Austrian-Hungarian Empire, and -since after WW 1-Yugoslavia, Bosnia and Herzegovina declared sovereignty in October of 1991. The wars that followed included a civil war started by the Serb minority in Bosnia, a war with Croatia, and an invasion of NATO-led forces, which still remain in place. As too many diverging interests still influence most of the news available, and other regional problems are involved to the history of these wars, it is impossible to tell the truth about what actually happened during the last ten years in bosnia and Herzegowina.

Bosnia and Herzegovina
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. The Bosnia and Herzegovina declaration of sovereingnty in October of , was followed by a referendum for independence from the former Yugoslavia in February of . Three years of bloody civil war On November 21 , in Dayton, Ohio , the warring parties signed a peace agreement that brought to a halt the inter-ethnic civil strife (the final agreement was signed in Paris on December 14 ). The Dayton Agreement divides Bosnia and Herzegovina roughly equally between the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Bosnian Serb Republika Srpska . In , a NATO -led international peacekeeping force ( IFOR ) of 60,000 troops served in Bosnia to implement and monitor the military aspects of the agreement. IFOR was succeeded by a smaller, NATO-led Stabilization Force (
