By Steve Litt The first step in the Universal Troubleshooting Process is "Get the Attitude". The Attitude is much more than a first step it's a tool you use throughout the Troubleshooting Process. It's also the most interesting (at least to my audiences) part of Troubleshooting. And the toughest. And the most unbelievable. And it's the most important factor in predicting Troubleshooting success. What is The Attitude? How do you get it? How do you keep it? This issue of Troubleshooting Professional Magazine explores these issues. Some of the articles use a boxing metaphor. When I was a tech at a radio-tv shop, my boss was an ex boxer. He once told me that most of the guys he fought were his friends. In the ring it was his job to beat the other guy into submission. Nothing personal, it was just his job. Sounds a lot like an Attitude-enabled Troubleshooter battling a problem, doesn't it? So kick back, relax, and read this issue. And remember, if you're a Troubleshooter, this is your magazine. Enjoy!.

Tips of the week

Practice 'smaller'
Fine-tune your targeting during practice by putting to a penny, pitching into an open umbrella, or hitting full shots at a tree trunk or telephone pole at the end of the range. Pick the most specific target. After practicing to tiny targets, shots will seem easier to larger targets on the course.
Buried bunker shots
Address the ball towards your back foot. Close the clubface. Strike down sharply just behind the ball. Finish with the weight on your front foot.
Fairway bunker shots
Make sure your feet are securely planted. Grip down on the club a little bit. Address the ball farther back in your stance. Hit the ball first, not the sand. Keep lower body movement to a minimum. Choose a club with enough loft to get over the lip of the bunker.

As well as knowing the frequent general words and the general academic words, there are two other types of words you need to know. You also need to know some of the less frequent words used in English and it is also necessary to know the specific words for your subject. Using a computer program like Range by Paul Nation, it is quite easy to take any text and make a list of words in the text that are not in GSL or AWL. Stardate 240204.24 Hi guys, Just reminding you all that when you send logs please have the subject title something similar to what I have below. This will makes the jobs of Mac and myself a little easier. When I'm busy I don't always have time to read every log and if its not clearly marked whether the log is on or off duty then I won't know whether or not its my job to put it on the page. Like I said, I don't always have time to read through the logs so I need the subject title to tell me whether the log is on or off duty. Please use the following example as a template: Off Duty Log - Lt. Commander Yuna Brin - Stardate 240204.10
On Duty Log - Lt. Commander Starcher - Stardate 240201.06
If you want to give your log a specific name then either include it as part of the above examples or have it as a heading in the email of your log. Please show us courtesy by using the format above. Thanks.

ZDNet Builder Reviews Jobs ... Firewall tips IT: Boxing gloves or a team sport? By Brett Walker, ZDNet Australia
    20 March 2003
OPINION: With budget cuts and high-profile project failures, rules of engagement between business and internal tech departments are changing. What approach should you take to making the transition? Boxing gloves have been standard issue in many organisations in recent times, with those on both sides having much to say. In one corner, business accuses its IT group about lack of understanding of the business, and failure to deliver business value from expensive investments in technology. In the other corner, IT claims that the business has unrealistic expectations, does not commit the required resources, and is often incapable of clearly defining its needs. If an organisation is to succeed, boxing gloves must give way to an approach that involves a high degree of collaboration and mutual support between the various parts of the business and its supporting technology groups. The reality of today's environment is that the effective application of business technology is crucial to business performance. It's also important that an enterprise's technology strategy is clearly aligned with the broader business direction.

RODDY PIPER built a worldwide reputation as "Rowdy Roddy Piper," a highly colorful professional wrestler.
Born in Glasgow, Scotland and raised in Canada, Piper fought his first professional match at thirteen in Manitoba, then went on to become national amateur wrestling champion in the 167-lb. class. A 17-year career in the ring followed, during which time Piper also hosted the syndicated TV show,
After deciding to retire from the ring to spend more time with is family, Piper acted in Body Slam with Tanya Roberts and Dirk Benedict, with Malcolm McDowell and Robert Carradine and Hell Comes to Frogtown . He also had a part in the television pilot for The Highwayman . After John Carpenter met Piper at Wrestlemania III, they discussed making a film together. They Live is the product of their enthusiasm for the idea.

    They Live
these similarities made Roddy piper an excellent choice for the part of Nada, but more importantly, it is not an accidental resemblance. Says Piper, "In many ways this part was written for me. John and I spent a lot of time talking when we first met; I told him things about my life that I don’t usually tell people, and he incorporated a lot of that material into this part, even down to certain specific incidents. I trust John completely, though – I could never do a picture where I had to be so revealed if I didn’t trust him."
"I can still remember what street life was like, though. For 25 cents you could spend the night in a youth hostel; when you came in they told you to ‘check your drugs and weapons’, and people actually did it – they could pick them up again as they left the next morning. They fed us supper and breakfast, but you couldn’t go in before 6 p.m. and you had to be out by 6 a.m. It was a hard life. A young kid on the street who didn’t make it into a hostel had to have a partner to watch out for him; otherwise anything could happen."

Often referred to as America's national pastime, baseball made its debut as an official Olympic sport on July 26, 1992, in Barcelona, Spain. Before 1992, baseball had often been seen in various exhibition and demonstration games throughout modern Olympic history. In time, baseball became so popular that it was scheduled to become an official sport at the 1940 Olympic Games in Japan. However, due to World War II, the Games were canceled and baseball was overlooked as an official Olympic sport for the next 52 years. The Olympic Committee formally decided baseball would be an official sport in 1992.

    Pulling no punches
While many physicians would like to see boxing banned, others say the medical profession should help ensure boxers are not unduly injured.
By Deborah L. Shelton AMNews staff. Sept. 20, 1999. - Additional information. The Hippocratic Oath implores doctors to "do no harm." Yet some physicians are involved in a sport in which the intent is to inflict as much bodily harm as possible. That sport is boxing. For years, doctors, including members of the AMA, have debated whether boxing should be banned. At least 650 deaths between 1918 and 1997 have been attributed to the sport. On the other hand, most physicians may be surprised to learn how deeply involved their colleagues are in the violent sport. At least two often four or more physicians are present at ringside for every fight. In fact, many physicians, like internist Michael Schwartz, MD, believe that boxing can be made safer if doctors play a more active role in the sport. He is president of the American Assn. of Professional Ringside Physicians, a Connecticut-based group with about 180 members in 35 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Almost every specialty is represented, including dermatology, neurology, ophthalmology emergency medicine, family practice and plastic surgery.
