Respect. Responsibility. (3Rs). Since then, teams that participated in study tours have been working energetically in California and Oregon. In fact, Planned Parenthood of Southwestern Oregon and the California team are Advocates' first state-based partners in the 3Rs Campaign California Adapting the 3Rs to a state environment was a major goal of Advocates' 2000 European study tour. The Commission has noted that two factors threaten to seriously challenge the State’s investment in this important natural resource as we approach the twenty-first century: Some 455,000 more Californians than are currently enrolled in the State’s colleges and universities will seek access to postsecondary education over the first half of the next century; and During the recent recession from which California is now recovering the State annually appropriated fewer dollars than California’s public colleges universities needed to maintain their historic levels of access, quality, and affordability. The combined impact of these factors prompted some observers to declare that California’s historic Master Plan for Higher Education is dead. However, the Commission believes that the major tenets of the Master Plan (1) differentiation of mission, (2) ready access to all who can benefit from education beyond high school, (3) affordability, and (4) high quality continue to be sound. Prevention of further erosion in California’s ability to comply with these tenets will require a departure from business as usual, both from California’s educational institutions and from its policy makers. The Commission offered recommendations in a 1995 planning document entitled “The Challenge of the Century,” to respond to this challenge. Among other things, the Commission recommends the following:

STATE BOARDS OF NURSING (BONs) - CALIFORNIA California COMPLEMENTARY AND ALTERNATIVE THERAPIES IN REGISTERED NURSING PRACTICE History: Complementary and alternative therapies are based on the medical systems of ancient peoples, including Egyptians, Chinese, Asian Indians, Greeks, and Native Americans. Some therapies such as osteopathy and naturopathy have evolved in the United States over the past two centuries. Still other approaches, such as bioelectro-magnetic applications, are on the frontier of current scientific knowledge and understanding. Nursing Practice: The more complex complementary and alternative therapies become part of advanced education and nursing practice, frequently in the context of continuing education workshops or seminars; examples include acupressure, aromatherapy, massage, yoga, and reflexology. Acupuncture and chiropractic requires a license to practice in California. Applied kinesiology, herbal, homeopathy, and ayurveda, usually require formal education preparation and practice, and in some instances these therapies have private certification. News Release March 26, 2002 Computers for Families wins award Computers for Families, a project of Santa Barbara Partners in Education and the Santa Barbara County Education Office, was one of four programs statewide to be awarded an Exemplary Program Award from the California County Boards of Education. The award was accepted by Santa Barbara County Board of Education Vice-President William K. Macdonald and Project Administrator John Padfield at the annual conference held jointly by the California County Boards of Education, the California County Superintendents Educational Services Association, and the California State Parent-Teachers Association in March. As an important corollary, dozens of teens have also learned computer repair skills involved with upgrading the donated computers. Computers for Families works in partnership with several local school districts: Carpinteria, Goleta, Hope, Santa Barbara elementary, Santa Barbara High, and Solvang. Families are enrolled in the program on a class-by-class basis, supported by teacher commitment to integrating technology into curricula and providing data for project evaluation.
