    Media Ownership The Buyers Perspective
"The CMDC Ownership and Share report is an invaluable tool, that helps define the complex status of cross media holdings and cross equity positions among Canada's Media companies. The utility of this information has proven invaluable in this new era of negotiation where the majority of multi-media portfolios have increasingly migrated to owner-groups who can provide tangible benefits in their single offerings."
    Sunni Boot, President, Optimedia Canada
"The CMDC Ownership and Share Report is invaluable to us on two fronts. Firstly, helping us track spend to ownership groups and secondly, determining integrated multi-media options. The benefits of improved perspective on negotiations and better tie ins for added value promotions are terrific."
"The task of finding out who owns what in Canadian media is daunting. The Council's member companies initially recognized the need to create a comprehensive source for ownership information and quantify the share of audience each Canadian media owner controls. Since the release of the first edition, the report's value and relevance have increased three-fold. It is a 'must have' component of a media organizations' strategic and tactical arsenals." Hugh Dow, President, M² Universal.

Chair investigates media convergence and global competition by Jamie Harrison Sept. 5, 2002 A $2-million gift from Canadian media and entertainment company Corus Entertainment will fund a chair in communications strategy at the University of Toronto's Joseph L. Rotman School of Management. The company will also fund a scholarship at the Rotman School in memory of late Toronto businesswoman Judy Elder, who died in March. The chair, known as the Corus Entertainment Chair in Communications Strategy, will investigate the recent trends towards convergence in the Canadian media and how, in the emerging knowledge economy, there is a critical need for Canadian media companies to look beyond their own borders and compete globally. Helping Canada understand these changes and position itself in the global new world order will be at the heart of the chair's work. Toronto, with the fourth-largest media concentration in North America, is among the fastest growing regions in terms of software development. The region's information technology and telecommunications cluster - a mixture of software, communications, advertising, media and entertainment industries - ranks ahead of both New York and Los Angeles.
