Star Choice to Purchase MDTV's Eastern Canadian Subscriber Base RICHMOND, B.C., April 12, 2001 - MDU Communications International, Inc. (OTCBB: MDTV) today announces that Star Choice Television Network Inc., a subsidiary of Star Choice Communications Inc.®, will purchase MDTV's Eastern Canadian subscriber base, property backlog and related assets for approximately $5.0 million (CDN). Closing is expected to occur on or before April 30, 2001. This transaction follows the Star Choice purchase of MDTV's Western Canadian subscriber base, property backlog and related assets on January 31, 2001 for a sale price of approximately $5.2 million (CDN). Beginning May 1, 2001, Star Choice will assume all obligations under the property access agreements and provide on-going service to these properties, owners and subscribers. About MDU: MDU Communications International, Inc. (OTCBB: MDTV) is a leading provider of premium communication/information services, including digital satellite television, high-speed broadband Internet and in-suite monitored security services, concentrating exclusively on the North American multi-dwelling unit marketplace - estimated to include 30 million residences. Through its wholly owned subsidiaries, MDU Communications (USA) Inc. and MDU Communications Inc., MDTV delivers DIRECTVâ digital satellite programming in the U.S. and Star Choiceâ digital satellite programming in Canada. Both subsidiaries provide 3Comâ Visitor and Community Network (VCN) high-speed (broadband) Internet systems and are committed to delivering the next generation of Internet services such as video-on-demand, voice over IP and in-suite webcam surveillance. MDTV Restructures Canadian Operations and Focuses on U.S. Growth RICHMOND, BC, February 5, 2001 - Having completed the sale of its Western Canadian satellite subscriber base to Star Choice Television Network Inc. for $5.2 million (CAD), MDU Communications International, Inc. (OTCBB: MDTV) today announces a restructuring of its Canadian subsidiary, MDU Communications Inc., and a full scale corporate focus to the 26 million U.S. residents living in multi-dwelling units (MDUs) where overall penetration of digital satellite service is approximately 1%. The infrastructure built by MDTV to accommodate its Western Canadian subscriber base, growth in Eastern Canada, and the addition of its DIRECTV subscriber base in the United States, will in large part be transitioned to the Company’s U.S. head office in Totowa, New Jersey with the remainder to the Company’s Toronto office. Over the next few months, the accounting and finance functions, the customer service functions, as well as the Company’s IT department will be relocated and consolidated in New Jersey. Sales and operations for the Canadian subsidiary will continue in the Toronto and Halifax offices and in Montreal. The Company will divest itself of its Western Canadian offices in Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg and a majority of its Vancouver office. As part of the Canadian restructuring, the Company has concluded laying off 79 employees, approximately 62% of its total work force. The scaled back and restructured operations in Canada will result in an approximate 70% reduction in MDTV’s monthly operating expenses. The Company, however, is committed to controlled growth in Eastern Canada with a focus on large projects providing the highest rates of return and revenue streams. In addition, the Company will focus deployment into those properties that are willing to sign long-term access agreements of seven to ten years with exclusive marketing provisions. The Company has a growing base of subscribers in Eastern Canada in addition to a backlog of properties waiting for services to be installed. With the recent downsizing of a large Eastern Canadian competitor, the regional competitive climate has changed significantly, resulting in many beneficial opportunities on which MDTV intends to capitalize.

Canadian Media Increasingly Choosing Dot-ca Identities
CIRA applauds Bell Globemedia Interactive and CTV for choosing a dot-ca home Ottawa, December 20, 2002 - On the heels of its second anniversary, the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) wishes to recognize and congratulate Bell Globemedia Interactive and CTV for choosing a dot-ca home on the World Wide Web. In June 2002, CTV merged CTVnews.com and CTV.ca to create a new and convenient integrated website. The new CTV website automatically redirects visitors to CTV's new dot-ca home (click on screen shot below to enlarge).
(reproduced with permission from Bell Globemedia Interactive) In early December, CIRA celebrated the second anniversary of its operations by noting an increase of more than 500% in the number of dot-ca domain name registrations since the organization assumed control of the dot-ca registry in December 2000. CIRA also revealed the results of a study indicating that, during the first eight months of 2002, the number of dot-ca domain name registrations grew by 11% (from 278,943 to 309,238 names) while the number of dot-com domain names registered in Canada fell by 17% (from 906,656 to 749,621 names.). Because dot-ca domain names only became widely available to Canadians as of December 2000, these findings mean that Canadians have narrowed dot-com's ten-year market lead by almost 50% in only two years.

February 21, 2002 CANADIAN WOMEN IN COMMUNICATIONS ANNOUNCES 2001 NEW MEDIA CAREER ACCELERATOR PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS TORONTO –
Corus Entertainment Inc., Canadian Women in Communications (CWC) and The Banff Centre proudly announced today the 20 participants of the first Corus / CWC New Media Career Accelerator Program. "We're very proud to be the sponsor of this exciting new Career Accelerator program," said Corus Entertainment President and CEO, John Cassaday. "Corus Entertainment has always had a strong commitment to advancing women in the workplace and supporting our employees in their professional growth. The New Media Career Accelerator Program will open up new doors and opportunities for the participants."
In partnership with:
The Corus / CWC New Media Career Accelerator Program is an intensive six-day executive training program, funded by Corus Entertainment Inc. and offered in conjunction with the prestigious Banff Centre. It’s a challenging, leading edge course that will take participants through the technology, terminology, possibilities and power of new media under the direction of some of North America’s most-respected media experts and provide them with the insights and strategies they need to manage new media aspects of their job. "Despite the leading role that many women play within the communications and broadcast industries in Canada, there are still too few women leading in new media content, technology and corporate development," said Sara Diamond, Executive Producer for Television and New Media and the Artistic Director of Media and Visual Arts, the Banff Centre. "We hope to change this! This program offers a sound grounding in new media content development and producing. For example, we will discuss interactive games, convergence content and business processes, legal strategies and trends. This is an opportunity for these women to network and support each other."

    We're back ... again!
I've missed being in touch with you lately, as can be witnessed by the extremely unpredicable nature of the delivery of the newsletter. Yes, it's supposed to be bi-weekly!
I have been extremely busy with my "day" job. I have been working many weekends on projects, plus we are putting the final touches on our next print publication so I'm afraid the newsletter kind of got put on the proverbial "back burner".
However I realise the importance and viability of a newsletter within our industry so with this issue we will attempt to resume bi-weekly publication. I appreciate your patience.
You will notice that the email you received didn't have the usual format of story intros and then hyperlinks to pages within the website. We are again trying to come up with a format which works for most people. Our HTML version was a disaster, hardly anyone could read it. The straight text version kept getting booted out by "spam filters" as having too many hyperlinks.
What we decided to do was to go to a PDF format, which allows us greater flexibility in layout and design and it also gives you all the information you need in an easy to read format. Plus as an added bonus it is easily printed if you want to share it with your co-workers.
