    85. Rainbow Academy Child Care Center - Before And After School Programs
Our Before and after school Programs have been developed to meet those Because weprovide transportation between your child's school and the Center, parents
    http://www.rainbowacademy.net/before.html
We have tried to anticipate the problems encountered by working parents. We realize that your older children need to have supervision so that you can have peace of mind at work. Our Before and After School Programs have been developed to meet those needs of working parents with children ages 5 to 12. Because we provide transportation between your child's school and the Center, parents are relieved of the worry as to the safety of their child. Rainbow is one of the few Centers that has THREE separate classrooms for school-age children ONLY . Your school-agers will not have to share space with preschoolers, consequently, your school-ager will not have to try to adapt to an environment that was designed for children younger than themselves. We feel that since your child has spent approximately 6 hours of his/her day working, a recreational based program is in order. After snack, the children are free to choose their activities from a variety of selections: outdoor play, sports, dramatics, arts and crafts, dancing, individually selected "fun" learning activities, stories or quiet time. If you wish for your child to do homework at the Center, our staff will be happy to help your child if assistance is needed. A special area is designated for such activities. The classrooms are equipped with:
    • Computers
    • Super Nintendo
    • Playstation
    • Air Hockey
    • Basketball
    • Atari Pole Position and Ms. Pac-Man

    Child Care/ After School Programs
    By Richard Melendez
Candidate for State Senator; District 29
This information is provided by the candidate
Infants and toddlers who get high-quality child care are more apt to graduate from high school, attend college and delay having children.High-quality, early childhood education can be an important ingredient in supporting young families. Between the hours of 3 and 6 PM is when most juvenile crimes occur. We need programs to keep our kids off the streets. Our children need to be challenged after school. After school programs are vital to working parents. Regarding Child Care, I propose tax deductions for families with day care expenses. In addition, I propose tax credits for business who provide Child Care for their employees. Child Care is vital to a well functioning society. We must ensure that quality child care is available to the hard working men and women of this state. After School programs are virtually non-existent. I work with children every day. I go into hundreds of classrooms every year to instruct kids about the dangers of alcohol, violence, drugs and gangs. We must make after school programs more prevalent. Significant Points
    • About 2 out of 5 childcare workers are self-employed; most of these are family childcare providers. A high school diploma and little or no experience are adequate for many jobs, but training requirements vary from a high school diploma to a college degree. High turnover should create good job opportunities.

Nature of the Work About this section Back to Top Childcare workers nurture and teach children of all ages in childcare centers, nursery schools, preschools, public schools, private households, family childcare homes, and before- and after-school programs. These workers play an important role in a child's development by caring for the child when parents are at work or away for other reasons. Some parents enroll their children in nursery schools or childcare centers primarily to provide them with the opportunity to interact with other children. In addition to attending to children's basic needs, these workers organize activities that stimulate the children's physical, emotional, intellectual, and social growth. They help children explore their interests, develop their talents and independence, build self-esteem, and learn how to behave with others.

After School Answers for Working Moms How-and where-to find the best 3:00 care for your child By Grace Bennett
My second grader, Anna, begs me to wait when I arrive a half-hour early to pick her up. She's in the middle of a hide-and-seek game, and at that moment, her teacher is the one hiding. Anna and her pals are giddy with ideas of where he could be, and they're busy strategizing how to find him. "Sure," I tell her. "You've got 10 minutes to finish up, sweetie." As has so often been the case, a sense of contentment floods over me-that feeling you get when you realize you've done something right for your kid. Three years ago, I enrolled Anna in the stimulating, high-quality after-school program she attends while I work. "It's a great opportunity for learning and social development," says Mary Larner, editor of "When School Is Out," (www.futureofchildren.org) a recent report on the status of after-school care published by the David and Lucile Packard Foundation. But not everyone has, or takes advantage of this option. In Chicago, for example, the report notes that after-school programs accommodate only 9 percent of kids. And a recent national survey found that only 13 percent of children in kindergarten through third grade participate in center-based after-school care on a regular basis. Still, these programs can be well worth the cost for those who use them.
