Related Resources: Parent Link When Parents and Child Care Providers Disagree Listen to the article Parents often have to make some compromises between "ideal" child care, and the actual choices that are available. You may simply have to live with some compromises, such as a far-away location. But if you have other concerns, you may be able to work them out with the provider. Every family raises children a little differently. If you want your provider to do things differently with your child, talk with him or her about it. A good provider will welcome this, knowing that you are partners who need to cooperate. Be careful not to say something like: You shouldn't do that with the children." This may offend the provider or start an argument. Instead, start out by saying: "In our family, we prefer to do it this way." This shows you know that other parents may choose to do things differently than you. A good provider can then listen, even if they don't agree with you. Remember, as a parent, you have a role in the success of your relationship. Here are three things providers want parents to understand:

    North Carolina's
    Subsidized Child Care Program:
    Helping Families Afford Child Care
    W HAT IS THE SUBSIDIZED CHILD CARE PROGRAM? Using state and federal funds, North Carolina provides financial assistance for child care to many families through a locally administered state-supervised voucher system. You are free to choose your own type of child care arrangement. The amount the state pays for each child depends on:
    • your family situation;
    • your income;
    • the cost of the child care provided; and
    • the type of public funds from which the payment is made.
    Each county receives an annual amount of state and federal funding from the Division of Child Development for subsidized child care services. The amount of funding allocated to each county is determined by a formula described in state legislation. If the county department of social services or local purchasing agency does not have enough funding to serve all families who apply for subsidized child care, the agency may establish priorities for services. For example, an agency may choose to give priority to families who are employed or need child care to support child protective services. W HO IS ELIGIBLE?

Send an E-Card Child Offered Mixed Religious Messages My four-year-old, along with her best friend, is in a home-based day care that she's attended since infancy. Recently her best friend's grandma died. My daughter had many questions, and the day-care provider answered them from her Christian perspective. We, however, are not Christian. Am I being overly sensitive in wanting to ask my provider to stop talking about religion with my daughter? I want her to talk to me and to her provider about questions like this, but my major concern is whether exposure to this belief at her age will be a problem for her later, when I wish her to have an open mind, and evaluate all religions to find the one best for her. Ask yourself this question: Is the day-care provider simply trying to answer your daughter's questions about the grandmother's death in the only way she knows? Or is she trying to indoctrinate your daughter into her religious views? If you feel she's overstepping her bounds, then you must decide what you're going to do about it.

    Hi, I'm Andrea! Thanks for stopping by my little corner of the web. Kick off your shoes, relax, and I hope you enjoy your stay!
    I'm a licensed childcare provider in the state of Kansas. I've been in childcare since 1996. I started off as a registered provider until our 3rd child was born, and when I came back from maternity leave, I opened my doors as a licensed facility.
    I've been married to my best friend, my love, my soul mate from God, since January of 1992. We are the lucky (and PROUD!!!) parents of 4 beautiful children who light up our lives! I have the best of two worlds..... being able to be at home with our children AND being involved in the nurturing and growing of the children in my care.
    If you ever have questions, concerns, or suggestions, please just click on the side menu at the left and email me. I'll get back to you as quickly as I possibly can. Thanks again for visiting!!!
