Product Reviews: Cobra: King of Snakes The Cobra is by far one of the most mysterious and intriguing snakes. Almost anyone can instantly identify the familiar hood. Even with it's potentially lethal bite this snake is revered by many. Certain cultures live with this incredible creature on a daily basis and interact with it as if it were the typical house pet. Not only is the snake feared and respected, but even worshiped at times. Including excellent photography and a suspenseful music score to go along with it, this is a definite must have for snake lovers out there. By capturing the essence of this creature in people's houses and it's natural habitat, it can be seen that it is infact not a mindless killer but rather a sensitive animal that would sooner be left alone than go in for the kill. With an emphasis on it's ecological niche and the importance of preservation, this video informs and creates an overall understanding of this commonly miscontrued creature. The Cobra truly is the king of snakes.

The Snakes of India Frequently Asked Questions
Page Last Updated : July 07,2002 Q Are there snake charmers in India? A Yes. There are snake charmers all over India, who provide street side entertainment. The snakes are typically king cobras (those with a hood and S mark; they are deadly poisonous). The charmer blows a horn (called Pungi) to which the snake seems to dance. The snake charmers also exhibit other types of snakes like pythons, and sometimes arrange Snake Vs. Mongoose fights for the audience. Q Why are snakes worshipped in India A Snakes have a very important role in Indian mythologies and beliefs (you can see their depiction in this section at Kamat's Potpourri). Snakes are both feared and revered in India. There is a festival called Naga Panchami that is dedicated for the purpose. Q Are the Indian snakes poisonous A There are both poisonous as well as non-poisonous snakes in India; the viper, the krait, the cobra, and the king cobra have venom and are deadly. The Indian children are taught to identify these snakes in the schools and also to provide first aid in the case of bites. Q How does the snake charmer make the cobra dance?

Using it now for about three weeks. I'm "SHOCKED", at what this thing did for my Musical Fidelity Nu Vista cdp. This is the most natural, transparent, detailed and dynamic power cord that I've ever heard (and I've heard a few). There just seems to be more musical information coming from this thing. Oh, and the air....It brought "Magic" to my system. The King Cobra v2 was a much better match for my cdp than the Python which works great on my Audio Magic Stealth Power Conditioner. This pc was the missing link in my system. I now have that special, refined sound that I've been searching for. Wounder what the Anaconda sounds like. The King Cobra v2 has my highest recommendation.

Biology: King Cobra Related Links:
Biology: Eastern Coral Snake Physical and Physiological Characteristics
The King Cobra averages 3.7 m in length but is known to grow to 5.5 m. It is olive and brown or black in color. Usually, there are yellowish or white cross bars on its body. Throat is light yellow or cream-colored. The King Cobra is regarded as a fierce and aggressive snake, and its length and size give it an awesome appearance.
Behavior and Food Habits
King Cobras eat primarily other snakes, such as rat snakes, kraits, other cobras and pythons. Some specimens develop specification for a single species as food resource. This snake is active by day. Prey are located by odor with the forked tongue and shortly before final attack, the snake relies on its eyesight. Prey is swallowed still living and process may take hours. The anatomy of King Cobra’s head, allows the capture and swallowing of prey thicker than the head. Male and female cobras are thought to pair for life. They cooperate to find and defense of a nest site. Females protecting a clutch are very aggressive and attack may occur without prior warning. Usually, King Cobras prefer to escape in case of human approaching.
Reproduction and Hatchlings
Breeding usually occurs from January through April. King Cobras are oviparous and lay 21-40 eggs. The female pushes leaves and branches into a nest pile where the eggs are incubated by the elevated temperatures of decomposition. Incubation takes place during spring and summer, hatching in the fall. The babies are black with yellow or white cross bars on the body and tail. Juveniles are able to hunt immediately after hatching.

Well, according to the herpetologists, like other snakes, cobras are defensive, not aggressive so it takes a lot to get a cobra to bite.

Who's charming who? Snakes actually sway to and fro at the sight - not sound - of a charmer's flute. For video footage on snake sight, click the image above. You know it's a hoax - but how? The "snake charmer" on the New Delhi street sits cross-legged in front of the basket and begins to play his flute. Then, as if by magic, the cobra rises up, its hood spread, ready to bite. But instead, it seems hypnotized by the music, swaying with the sound of the flute, standing - but not striking. There's got to be a trick - but what is it? Well, the answer to that question reveals some surprising facts about the cobra. Belonging to the Elapid family, there are about 16 species in the cobra genus Naja , some approaching three metres in length. They are venomous, able to inject powerful neurotoxins through the fangs - or in some species, spit the poison into their enemies' eyes. They all have expandable hoods, produced by spreading the ribs in their neck under elastic skin. Some live in water, others live in trees. They feed on amphibians or, in some cases, other cobras But they're all extremely dangerous - right? Well a look at the elements of snake charming shows that the answer to that question is both yes - and no.

In economically booming China, the rising demand for cobra meat and traditional medicines made from cobras has had a devastating impact on the deadly snakes' population in neighboring Vietnam. But a northern Vietnamese village is attempting to reverse the trend, both to earn money from the lucrative cross-border trade and to preserve the threatened snake in its natural habitat. Vinh Son Commune in the northern province of Vinh Phuc, near Hanoi, has been breeding and raising cobras in recent years. Last year the commune produced about 50 tons of cobras, mostly exported to China. The commune's success at captive breeding is being viewed in some quarters as a boost for environment conservation, especially as the breeders hope to release some of the cobras into the wild. Vietnam's biologists say the declining population of cobras in the wild threatens to upset the ecological balance. As more and more wild cobras are captured illegally, paddies in many parts of the country are being invaded by rapidly growing armies of rats. Vietnamese Cobra Wine

To see pictures of animals click the blue dot.. Facts and Knowledge: The King Cobra is one of biggest venomous snakes in the world. It can grow up to eighteen feet long and can weigh up to twenty pounds. The King Cobra is vicious. When the King Cobra is scared or excited it will spread it's neck into a "hood" creating long ribs that extend the loose skin of the neck behind the cobras' heads. This is how cobras usually attack readies for the attack. and a fine warning.. Habitats: The One of the king cobra’s natural habitats is the cool undergrowth of rain forests. It often stays near streams, where the temperature and humidity are relatively constant. It spends almost a fourth of its time up in trees or bushes, but also likes plains and mangrove swamps. As deforestation causes the kings habitat to shrink, it can find itself in enemy territory the human realm of tea estates and villages. Breeding: Potential mates find each other by sending “scent messages.” Both males and females give off a musk is the mating season. When a male picks up the scent of a nearby female he pursues her and rubs her with his head. If she's not interested, he persists by using his head to butt and push her around. Once she's aroused, the male inserts the nearest of his pair of hemipenes, genitals stored inside the tail, just behind hisvent. The pair can stay joined like this for hours. Scientists think that some king cobras mate for life. King cobras are the only snakes to make nests. These consist of mounds of leaves (preferably bamboo) that the queen whips together with her body coils. Its a two-story affair: The eggs are laid in a bottom chamber and the queen lies coiled in the upper layer.
