There are three assignments and three "templates" that they can download and open to do the assignments in. I have them set to add them up so they can check their numbers based on their math. They simply change the top to their name and type the assignment number in the blank. Then, get busy typing.

    PDA Software Reviews

    Title:
    ThoughtManager for Teachers TM
    By: Hands High Software, Inc.
Dowloadable Palm OS planning program adapted for teachers and administrators.
    Requirements:
Any Palm-type device using Palm OS 3.0 or above. - 350K free space. - A PC or Macintosh computer capable of supporting a Palm-type device (not specified for this product; if you're using a PDA with your computer, you have what you need; if you're thinking of purchasing a PDA and aren't sure what's required of your computer, consult PDA manufacturers' guidelines).
    Description:
ThoughtManagerTM is an all-purpose list-building tool that is available in a variety of incarnations, depending on your profession. As with many of the software products available to PDA users, the program itself is relatively simple (so simple that, if you test-drive it without first knowing what it's about, you'll be hopelessly confused). The real value is in the files created for use with the program and which are available for download by those who buy the product. While the tool itself won't wow you, the content should. Users are invited to submit content and ideas to the program website, so those who buy the program benefit from an informal workforce of thousands of amateur developers with similar needs continually expanding the body of available content.
The basic tool lets you create and modify files consisting of sets of bullet points and sub-points. These files can be used quick reference lists (e.g. outlines for a presentation or lecture), or as a means of recording quick notes (such as action items in a meeting; for teachers, it could mean a separate file for each student in a class in which you can record observations over the course of your day-easier and less obvious than chasing students with a notebook). You have the option of appending to any point or subpoint a drawing (there's a built-in sketch pad function) or more detailed notes (a Notepad-style memo pad is included). As with just about any Palm-based program, your files can be quickly and wirelessly 'beamed' to another teacher's (or principal's) PDA, provided it too has the program installed; outlines and records become almost infinitely portable and shareable.

Unit Description The food we eat contributes to our heath and well-being. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has developed the food pyramid to help people choose foods that are healthy and sufficient servings to lead a healthy lifestyle and make healthy choices every day. This unit encourages students to consider the foods that they eat in relation to the food pyramid, to keep track of how much fat they consume in a fat diary, and to compare their intake of fat with that of other students around the country.
    Objectives Students will:
    • Learn about the food pyramid.
    • Learn about how much fat is in our regular diets.
    • Share data collected on fat intake with other students.
    • Learn to use math to calculate group averages and classroom totals.
    Materials and Resources

Teachers' Idea Book : Using Computers with K-8 Students
    by Charles Doe
Teachers' Idea Book is a collection of hundreds of ideas, tips, projects and helpful information, based on the work done by SchoolHouse Mac over the past eight years. TeachersÕ Idea Book is aimed at teachers in one computer classrooms but is helpful to anyone working with children and computers. I began this project to develop as many specific, nuts and bolts ideas for using computers with children as possible. I looked for ideas which don't necessarily require access to the Internet, a computer lab, special software or multiple classroom computers. The final collection can be used on nearly any computer in nearly any situation by experienced and inexperienced users alike. Many of the ideas can be adapted to most subjects or curriculums at most age levels. Teachers' Idea Book is most useful for first through eighth grade teachers, but contains ideas which can be used and/or adapted by pre-school, kindergarten and high school teachers as well.
