Home (203) 234-9811 (fax) Visit the School Web Sites On the first day of the 2001-2002 school year, 3,754 students were greeted by administrators, faculty and support staff at our 6 schools. Among those greeting our students were 29 new teachers. Many of the new teachers replaced staff who had retired or resigned; other positions were added to accommodate the increased student enrollment at various grade levels or in certain subjects. Construction continued on 8 new classrooms at the elementary schools and was completed in the spring of 2002. An after-school program operated by the YMCA was initiated at Clintonville School. At the opening day for teachers, Superintendent Mary Jane Sheehy announced that Melissa Hudson, instrumental music teacher at Ridge Road, had been selected as North Haven's 2002 Teacher of the Year. In the aftermath of the September 11th tragedy, students at all levels showed their patriotism by collecting supplies to send to workers at the World Trade Center grounds; by writing to New York firefighters; and by raising money to help with relief efforts.

Neel Published in the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE) The Journal , June 2001 – Volume 6 No. 6 The requirements of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) Statement No. 34, Basic Financial Statements and Management’s Discussion and Analysis for State and Local Governments , have been described as "the most sweeping changes in the history of government accounting" (Alioto and Dickson, 1999). In practice, the new standards are designed to promote understanding of our fiscal health and activity. How will it happen? Financial statements will be sufficiently comprehensive for the financial community, but formatted in a way which will make them comprehensible to anyone. Statement No. 34 represents a tremendous opportunity for boards of education to engage the community by providing an operational and strategic context for fiscal results. By promoting greater understanding and comprehensive examination of school finances, boards of education can anticipate increased public empathy for their missions. Tirozzi was appointed Executive Director of the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) on March 1, 1999. NASSP is the preeminent organization and the national voice for middle level and high school principals, assistant principals, and aspiring school leaders. Dr. Tirozzi recognizes that there are many complex issues facing the nation's middle level and high schools. Krom was recognized for his dedication and many contributions to the students of John F. Kennedy Middle School, while attending the NHS and NJHS national conference in Atlanta, GA. The Rynearson Award was established in honor of Edward Rynearson, founder of NHS.
