    Professional staff development series established
A new training program for professional staff begins this fall with a series of courses that will provide additional opportunities for advanced career exploration. Entitled "Understanding the University of Delaware: A Professional Staff Development Series," the workshops are designed for professionals who want to increase their knowledge of the University, enhance skills in their current positions and think strategically about future aspirations. This program is coordinated by Liane Sorenson, women's affairs and Career Development Program for Professional Staff, and the series will be led by Audrey Helfman, College of Human Resources, Education and Public Policy. "For years, professional staff who have used the Career Resource Center or who have attended one of the lunch-time career development workshops have asked for a more advanced career development program," Sorenson said. "Audrey Helfman and I worked with a group of professional staff from across campus to develop and implement a pilot for such a career development program last spring. As a result of the enthusiastic response to the pilot program, we are pleased to offer the new series for the first time this semester." According to Sorenson, feedback from the first group of participants was very positive. Many learned more about the operation of the University and their own personal interests.

Ocoee, FL, August 12, 2002 - E-learning solutions provider and distance learning leader, Compass Knowledge Holdings, Inc. (OTCBB: CKNO) announces that its education subsidiary, the Educators' Learning Network (eLNet), has been selected by Delaware's Department of Education (DOE) to deliver its distance learning staff development program to all public school leaders and district administrators throughout the State. DOE has signed a three year agreement with eLNet to receive its Requisites of a Leader program, which is delivered via the Internet and satellite broadcasts. This statewide initiative constitutes the beginning of what state officials believe will be a systemic move toward leveraging technology for the purposes of staff development. "State education departments across the US are under tremendous pressure to improve their student's success rates," commented Rogers W. Kirven, Jr., CEO of the eLNet. "With the diversity in school districts, even within a state, we feel the flexibility and effectiveness of our program made us the best choice for our new Delaware network members."

    Red Clay Consolidated School District
Financial Data To help our District realize all of its educational goals, Red Clay is committed to being fiscally responsible and focused on ensuring that resources reach our classrooms.
The financial overview that follows presents:
    • Tax rate comparison from the last tax year to the current tax year Fiscal year 2001 expenditures by category Fiscal year 2002 revenue sources Fiscal year 2002 budgeted expenditures Six-year expenditure comparison
For a second consecutive year, a tax rebate was authorized by the Board of Education for all residential taxpayers of $0.082/$100 of assessed value as allowed under the Education Expense and Property Tax Relief Fund. The District demonstrated additional fiscal responsibility by granting senior citizens a school tax rebate over and above the general tax rebate of 50 percent of their school taxes or $500, whichever is the lesser. This was made possible under the elderly Property Tax Relief and Education and Tax Expense Fund.
During the past fiscal year, the District's favorable "bottom line" allowed us to relieve some of the overcrowding by acquiring the Brandywine Springs Elementary School for kindergarten through grade five. We were able to use some of the funds in our carryover balance to pay 40 percent of the $10.6 million acquisition and renovation costs. The remainder of the funding was supplied by the state of Delaware through the efforts of local legislators. The District intends to "pay itself back" by selling off unused properties.
