RWCMD has one of the smallest Students' Unions in the country with just 550 or so students and a union financial grant of around £22,500. Our size makes us unique, though, and we pride ourselves on quick and personal responses which are both reactive and proactive. We also pride ourselves on working tirelessly to development welfare, social and relaxiation provisions for all students at the College. Clubs and socieities organised in conjunction with the Students' Union include an LGB Society and a Christian Union. The current objectives of the Students' Union include:
  • to promote the general welfare of the students to represent students in academic disciplinary or other matters relating to the government of RWCMD to act as the recognised channel of communication between the students and RWCMD to provide educational, social, cultural and recreational activities of members and encourage student societies, sports and activities to establish and maintain relations with other students' unions and external organisations to operate in a fair and democratic manner and to be accountable for its finances
Entertainment plays a key role of the function of the SU and a social event of some description is normally held at least once a week.

Cardiff is both friendly and lively. Students enjoy the unrivalled standard of living which marks the city out as Europe's youngest and brightest capital. Cardiff has a well-established student community of over 30,000 students, including 3,000 international students, spread over four separate Higher Education establishments, including the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Only 2 hours from London, Cardiff is a culturally rich city making it the perfect location for a music and drama university. It has much to offer everyone, but, students in particular find Cardiff the perfect place to study. Some of the main reasons why students study at RWCMD:
  • Culture - a variety of concert halls and theatres, large and small, means that you never need to go beyond Cardiff to seek quality entertainment. This also means that there are many places and opportunities for you to perform publically as the College has excellent relationships with St. David's Concert Hall, New Theatre and the Sherman Theatre. Parks - there are many beautiful parks in and around Cardiff and the College itself is situated next to the second biggest inner-city park in the world, in the grounds of Cardiff Castle. The abundance of natural park lands make it a most attractive city where students can relax under the shade of trees, go boating or just walk and enjoy the contrast to city life.

An ounce of prevention P athways Youth Ministry is our preventive focus, that encourages children and youth to avoid the many wrong paths that can damage or destroy their lives and instead lead Christ-centered lives so that they can enter adulthood ready to contribute to society. Creative evangelism, relevant Bible instruction, adult and youth mentoring, music, drama, leadership training, and fun, wholesome recreational activities together help youth successfully live out Biblical principles and reach their God-given potential. In our computer learning center, committed volunteer tutors help children succeed and excel in school. Our goal is to see increasing numbers of our youth take advantage of the Mission's college scholarship program. Pathways has begun its second year of its After-School program for elementary students. The kids have fun, learn a lot, and come away with the knowledge and assurance that there is a reason to hope for the future. This year we want to provide more one-on-one time and also expand enrollment, so we need additional volunteers, some part-time paid teachers and additional funding. (The part-time positions are available for people who can commit to daily involvement during the school year. For more information, contact John Dixson at (216) 431-3520 or e-mail him at

Drama Queen:
Throwbacks To The Stone Age

Article From The Nuvo Magazine Sept.
Vol. 11 Issue 30

You don't see - or hear - bands like Drama Queen anymore. In a world filled with kiddie pop singers and prefab indie rock bands, it's a rarity to come across an all-female hard-rock band that really rocks.
And in an industry increasingly dominated by little girls, it's refreshing to see real women playing music.
Drama Queen plays good old rock and roll the way the good Lord intended it. Think Girlschool without the pop. AC/DC without the macho crap. Warrant with more talent.
Drama Queen represents the re-emergence and triumph of big-haired, hard-drinking rock music, performed by actual veterans of the '80s music scene. In the late 1980s and early '90s, the group, then known simply as the Girls, were playing clubs all over the country. They were a favorite in Vegas rock clubs and also toured extensively on the East Coast.

John Waddington Feather was born in 1933 at Keighley, Yorkshire, a mill-town in the Aire Valley. His verse-plays "Garlic Lane" and the longer "Easy Street" were first performed at Leeds Civic Theatre in 1973. This edition of "Garlic Lane" is a new version of the original. USING Yorkshire dialect as his model, Mr. Waddington- Feather shows how his dialect and other early Englishdialects developed and how Standard English has evolved from them. The history of dialect not only reflects the changing social history of Yorkshire, but also of England.
The author has written books on local history and education His plays have been produced both in his native county and througout Britain, and reveal a life-long interest in regional speech. He is a Life Member of the Yorkshire Dialect Society in which he was secretary and editor for many years. He is also a Life Member of the Bronte Society which awarded him its annual prize in 1966 for his paper on the dialect of Wuthering Heights.
Mr. Waddington-Feather grew up in a dialect-speaking community in Keighley and Silsden, later graduating at Leeds University, where he studied under the late Professor Harold Orton, who pioneered so much dialect study in Britain and the United States.

The F.T.A. club is a local organization that provides an opportunity for its members to explore the field of teaching as a potential career. Throughout the year the members cadet teach at a grade school or at the middle school. The experiences they have will give them a better idea of what teaching is about. F.T.A. usually has one fund-raiser. The money raised is donated to a cause which will help students in our corporation. Many times we will have guest speakers at our meetings; in the past the speakers have been foreign exchange students, student teachers, college representatives, or administrators.
