Mr. Alderman's
Classes
Welcome to Mr. Alderman's Ancient Civilization's Site. This site was developed with the expert guidance of Mrs. Hawrylchak and Mrs. Norton who walked me through the process. This will serve as a vehicle for parents and students to observe past and present assignments. It will also give guests an opportunity to explore ancient civilizations links. It is hoped that language arts links will be added in the future and ancient civilizations links enhanced. Parent and Student Checklist
When you talk with your child about their progress, you may want to use this checklist as a springboard for conversation. We continually strive to encourage students to accept responsibilities and consequences. We have found that when a student addresses the items on the checklist, school performance is improved. _ Set aside an hour and a half for work at night in quiet setting.
Parents share in the development of the core values of our school: respect, responsibility and results. The success of the results coincide directly with students ability to handle their responsibilities. Students must realize that they determine and are responsible for their own successes. During your conversation with your child, you may want to work with him/her about setting goals to improve study habits and to help them assume their responsibilities.

The Life of an Egyptian Woman
by Emily Tarasenko
This is a sample piece of historical fiction written by a student in Dr. Vess's History 110 honors course during the Spring of 1995 at DeKalb College.
The life of an Egyptian woman
My name is Nitocris. I am the first queen ever known to have held a throne. I lived and reigned in ancient Egypt during what is now considered to be the final years of the Old Kingdom. My place is in this society is extremely important. Pharaohs are considered to be the link between the people and heaven, so naturally such an important religious figure as myself owns all of the land. In addition to my great power, my character is good and right. In the future, far in time from my present existence, a gallant historian will even refer to me as "the noblest and loveliest women of my time." My life is one of splendor and luxury. I rise at dawn and dress in a long, sleeveless linen sheath. I live in a beautiful palace with vast amounts of furniture. Many of my possessions are adorned with the figures of Taweret and Bes, deities upon whom I rely for help and protection. My servants take care of all the trivial and insignificant aspects of my life as I do not have time for such things. You see, I must devote the majority of my time to religious ceremony. These ceremonies are of utmost importance and come before everything else, including governmental affairs. I am surrounded by trustworthy people who help me take care of the daily business of government.

3dfx Interactive announces Voodoo3 1.0b5 drivers
Although new 1.0b5 drivers have been available for Mac Voodoo3 card users for a few days now, 3dfx Interactive yesterday formally announced their availability in a press release. According to the press release, the new version of the beta drivers feature two selectable ROM images for 143 MHz and 166 MHz clock speeds. The new version of the drivers have been released primarily to support new Voodoo3 3000 PCI cards, a faster implementation of Voodoo3 for users of PCI-based computers, including most Power Macs. The new Voodoo3 beta drivers are available for download from 3dfxGamers.com , 3dfx's official Web site for end users of products based on their technology. Bryan Speece, 3dfx's director of Mac business development, heralded the introduction of the new drivers in the recent press release. "This version of the Mac beta drivers incorporates the different clock speed of the new Voodoo3 3000 PCI, as well as other new features for selecting Mac-specific resolutions," said Speece. "The release of these drivers is a milestone in our efforts to extend the reach of our Voodoo3 graphics boards to Macintosh systems worldwide. They signify a concerted effort by 3dfx to give developers the tools to deliver the most immersive 3D experience available, to gamers of all platforms."
