News Press releases FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Bracknell, UK, 4 October 2001
Brian Eno's Email Composition Makes History
"Wander" is First Forwardable "Freesense" Sonified Email Eno's composition is in the increasingly popular text-based Koan Vector Audio (KVA) format. It is actually embedded in the html email itself, and will play as soon as the email is opened, whether or not the user is online when reading the email. The listener requires the soundcard independent SSEYO Koan Plugin 8.20 to hear the composition. This is available in both Windows and Mac versions for free download from the SSEYO website. About the release Eno said "The Freesense sonified email is a clever idea - and it works. The fact that the audio content is actually embedded in the Freesense as a text-based Koan Audio Vector makes it completely portable and easily forwardable. Email is known to be the most successful application for the Internet, and this development will facilitate any number of email audio applications." The Koan Vector Audio (KVA) format generates quality non-voice audio from as little as 10 characters of text. Koan Vector Audio is an open text format that includes note information, musical rules and complete sound descriptions - no audio samples are required. A typical rich, unique sound is only 1 SMS in size, which is around 160 characters. A complete music track including sound descriptions typically ranges from 500 bytes to 5 Kb.

We use 123 Domain Names UK net2 UK Domain Name Registration for .co.uk registrations Composition Summary : Emails are often written in an informal style, and are generally brief. You enter the text of your email in the body of the message. The most important tip for writing an email message is brevity (see netiquette be brief ). People typically get so many emails in a day that a long email often doesn't get read until later sometimes much, much later. Remember that you can copy text from another document or email and paste it into a new email, so you don't have to retype text. Many email programs will also let you paste pictures and documents into your message. Email is more informal than paper mail because it is used with more frequency and immediacy. Unless it is a personal letter, email usually gets right to the point without a lengthy introduction. Many people don't include a "Dear Sir" clause, and often do not include a signoff, letting the "To:" and "From:" fields speak for themselves. Signatures can also include a standard signoff.

Email Composition An email account is composed of two parts: username and server name. If you send mail through the post office, you have to have an address identifying the person and where to find this person. The same is true with email. The username identifies a particular user and the server name identifies the machine (post office) that the email will be stored on until the user retrieves the email. Thus, when you give someone your email address it will be in the form: username@servername

Geeklog Email Composition CRLF Injection Vulnerability A vulnerability has been reported for Geeklog that may allow an attacker to include extra email headers when composing email to other Geeklog users.
Geeklog prevents the disclosure of a user's real email address for privacy reasons. However an attacker is able to obtain a user's real email address by including extra headers when composing an email using Geeklog's 'Send Email' facility.

6.3.1 Sending messages
Note that you can send email without having set up a MailBox but a copy of the messages you send will only be stored once you have specified your Sent Mail Folder - see Sent mail folder. To send an email, click on the   button at the top of most pages. A page appears allowing you to compose a message. Figure 6.3-1 shows what this page will look like: Figure 6.3-1: Email composition page The three boxes at the top are for specifying the destination addresses. Email addresses typed in the "To" box denote the message's primary recipients - see email address book. Often, this is the only one of the three fields which you will use. Those in the "Cc" box will receive "carbon copies" of the message - the addresses will be visible to all who receive the email. Finally, the "Bcc" box is for nominating those who will have the message sent to them, but whose address will not be displayed in the message when it is received. The three buttons to the left of these boxes are linked to your address book - more on this later.

It kind of seems out of place in a real addressbook/contact manager... I vote for that. It also makes a clearer ui if we add actions to a search result/address list, like 'move to another addressbook', 'delete', etc. We need checkboxes for these tasks like in IMP's mailbox view but four checkboxes in a row always seemed odd to me. Math Notation via Email
Contents of this page
If web page options leave something to be desired with regard to rendering math expressions, email can be a nightmare. But on various math discussion usenet groups, some standard notations seem to have evolved. Basic Guidelines: First, before you compose any math expressions for sending over the email, you should set the font of your email composition window to an equal-space font like Courier . This will assure that columns will line up the same way for both sender and receiver. Also it is very important to remember to press the enter key before you reach the 80th column of each line. Do not count on the auto-wrap to insert the end-of-lines please explicitly press the enter key at the end of each line. Many mail readers render email very poorly if it contains no hard end-of-lines, and your colums will not line up for me the same way as they did for you if you fail to follow this guidline. And please, do NOT ever use tabs anywhere . If you do you will very nearly assure that columns will not line up for the recipient as they did for you. So always use spaces instead of tabs.
Raising Something to a Power
The notation x^n is almost universally taken to mean x n . It is much easier to do exponentiation using the symbol than to try to line up the exponent in the correct column of the preceding line. If the exponent is an expression, be sure to use parentheses

Related questions: How do I send an image with email? There are various SEND or EMAIL buttons or menus in some scanners, but if these give trouble with the email program you use, it is extremely easy to simply do it the standard conventional way instead, which I describe here. You can send any file you created previously. Or scan a new image, normally like always, to create the size of image you want to send. Save that image file on your hard disk, like always. Remember the file name and the disk folder where you save it. Then use your email program's ATTACH menu to find that image, to send it with your email message. The way you send any file with email is to "Attach" the file to the email text message. All email programs have a menu item ATTACH or ATTACHMENTS, and their toolbars often have this as an icon with a paperclip symbol to denote "Attach" a file. Attach means "Send a copy of the file with the message". The Attach button or menu allows you to find and specify the file(s) to send with the email message. A copy is sent of course, the file still remains on your disk. See your email program's Help menu about "Attaching files to messages".
