2001, Here I Come posted by neema on 12/31/00 @ 4:55 PM I´m not sure which is bigger news: that I changed the layout of the page so that it would load quicker, or that I leave for Bangkok tomorrow. So I changed the layout (you´ll notice that the ¨recents¨ are still there, just at the way bottom. I did this because browsers have to render the entire table before displaying it so I did away with the whole table and now you can read the first entry while the rest of the page loads up. I know, I know, I should have it split up, but I don´t have time to do that right now (all links would be broken on ¨Recents¨) but I will do it this summer. So yes, I leave tomorrow at 3PM and I am so damn excited. I am heading north right away, not even really staying in Bangkok at all (at least in the beginning). I´m going north by bus and shared cars, stopping along the way, until I get to Chiang Mai, where then I´ll have a four day or six day trek up in the hills to visit a hill tribe up there. I´m fucking psyched! Then I am going to take a plane to Bangkok, go to volunteer, which ends on the 24th, then go to the far south of Thailand, cross the Malaysian border, come back into Thailand, get my visa extended, and scuba dive and explore the beaches and islands for a couple of weeks. Then it´s off to India. I am having the time of my life!!! Tonight I´m not sure what´s going on but I think I´m going to take it easy (the only person in Madrid). Last night they had a test run of the clock in Sol and people were partying THEN (complete with champagne, mad drinks, dancing, music) just another excuse to party: the night BEFORE New Year´s eve.

"Kitle Iletisim Araclarinin Yuksek Ogretimde Kullanimi Acikogretim Fakultesi Ornegi=Use of The Mass Media In Higher Education: A Case Study of The Open Education Faculty", Presented paper at Kitle Iletisim Araclari ve Egitim Sempozyumu organized by Ankara Universitesi Egitim Bilimleri Fakultesi, Ankara: 2 Kasim 1984, 6p, Ankara, Turkey. This paper explains the results and the expectations of "Open Education" applications which were realized by getting use of mass media by giving information, about Anadolu University Open Education Faculty and takes the subject to a discussion platform. Also, the observible results of Open Education Faculty were included in this paper. For instance, the students have conformity problems for the new surrounding. Besides positive observations such as the remove of the relation between success and continuity; problems such as the restriction of the number of teachers, educators and personnel for distance education and the flu concept of distance education in educational field also take place in the paper. But, it is also emphasized that higher open education is the product of a social need for Turkish society in those years. UNIVERSITELERDE OGRETMENLERIN HIZMET-ICINDE YETISTIRILMESI 2-ACIKALIN, Aytac. Afternoon
Oh, hey, Happy Halloween! Don't think anything really happens here to celebrate , and I'm on the road anyhow... Tomorrow's a holiday for me, All Saints' Day.
Evening
22:00 Home, sweet home. I just, finally, adjusted the band on my watch. It's been driving me nuts, ever y time I go so see what time it is, the face is face-down. It's still pretty lo ose, but I don't think that it'll flip over by itself any more... but if I keep losing weight, I'm gonna need a new watch. Today was my first day trying to use my nifty Rand McNally Streetfinger GPS for the Palm. It's a spiffy device, well-designed for it's application it just clips onto the back of the Palm, doubling it's thickness and adding a really th ick stubby antenna to the top. Unfortunately, it doesn't work on trains. Works splendidly on my balcony tho. Too bad I can't find mapping software for Europe that matches the level of deta il available in the US with the Streetfinder software. To get that, I'd have to buy one of Garmin's mapping GPSes, an ultra-expensive memory card for it (to h old the maps), and spend $130

Hardly worth it, because the theme is outdated and the movie too evangelistic. The death penalty is something of the past and we should not discuss it all the time. In other countries it will take a few years or decades more, but then they will also realise it. But ok, the actors play rather well. Anyhow, look what the distributor is telling about this movie: inspired by true events, DEAD MAN WALKING is the story of a spiritual woman who embarks on a dangerous journey with a convicted killer and the profound changes it makes in her life. Confronted with the anger of the community and the private pain of his victims' parents, Sister Helen Prejean (Susan Sarandon) overcomes her own fears to fight for the life and soul of Matthew Poncelet (Sean Penn).
