USA
The USA has the most developed set of on-line museum information of all the countries in the world. So much so that the number of museum links in the USA is of the same order of magnitude as museum links around the rest of the world The following US museums have their own WWW servers (and as such tend to have more comprehensive information and exhibits):
  • American Museum of Natural History , New York City.
  • American Computer Museum , Bozeman, Montana, USA.

The Division of Environmental and Life Sciences has two established museums. The Biological Sciences Museum in E8B and the Earth Sciences Museum in the foyer and adjacent corridors of E8A support a range of teaching programs and showcase the research of Macquarie University academic staff. The collections of the Biological Sciences Museum consist of 10,000 specimens. There are large collections of corals, molluscs, insects, reptiles, birds, marsupials, skeletons and antique microscopes. The museum presents a mix of environmental and systematic exhibitions highlighting the issues of biodiversity and conservation in Australia. It includes live insects, reptiles and fish. Nearby, in the Biological Sciences precinct is the Frank Mercer Teaching Gardens. Plant communities specific to certain habitats are represented. The Department of Biological Sciences also maintains a herbarium with algae, bryophytes, ferns, cycads, conifers and flowering plants. The collections of the Earth Sciences Museum consist of 54,000 specimens. Displays include fossil fish, trace fossils, invertebrate fossils, high quality minerals, gemstones, specimens from Antarctica, specimens illustrating volcanic processes and a selection of rocks illustrating a range of biophysical processes. Nearby the Museum are the Earth Sciences Garden and Science Square. The Garden demonstrates biogeographic principles and contains plants with a long fossil history. Both the Garden and Science Square have a number of large igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic geological specimens that augment teaching programs.

The design of children's museums must then take as a starting point what is known about environmental preference of children. Some researchers assert that environmental designers do not sufficiently weigh the preferences or concerns of children and parents. The reasoning that goes into play space design often involves untested assumptions about the nature of children and adults. This paper presentation outlines five design principles for children's museums based on research in children's environments. Learning Environments in Children's Museums: Aesthetics, Environmental Preference and Creativity Jeffery A. Lackney, Ph.D., A.I.A. Paper presented at "Beauty, Creativity and Sensory Delights". Scientists think that the Earth's surface temperature has risen 1 degree Fahrenheit over the last 100 years. One degree over many years may not seem like much, but global warming can be devastating to our planet. "Carbon dioxide pollution spewing from our cars and power plants is building up in the atmosphere and causing global warming," said Alex Veitch, a conservation organizer for the
