The book is very much like a somewhat long review article that might best have appeared in the Annual Review of Interlinguistics (if there were such a book). It's basically a well-documented quickie review of the language Esperanto and the Esperanto movement. Every page is chock full of references to the contents of a fourteen-page bibliography, most of it of relatively recent vintage. Even Harlow gets a mention.
Other planned languages get barely more than a passing mention, in the introduction; the three that are mentioned by name in the context of giving examples of

Wikipedia:Esperanto language links
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. The Esperanto wikipedia recently was upgraded to the new wiki software, and has the ability to include interlanguage links . Some have already been put in, but by no means all. If you'd like to help with the process, here's a list of all pages on the English wikipedia which include links to their Esperanto counterparts: follow the links, and if the eo page hasn't been updates, put in a en: link to the English page and any other languages which might be linked. While you're there, please check the English articles for typos, grammatical errors, formatting errors, and other problems. When you've confirmed that an article is soundly linked, remove it from the list. If there's a problem (page doesn't exist, it's not the same topic, etc), move it to the "Problem links" section at the bottom of this page.

(Redirected from Esperanto language Esperanto eo and epo in ISO 639 ) is the most widely spoken of the constructed languages L. L. Zamenhof created the foundation of the language in after ten years of working on it. His intention was to create an easy-to-learn language, to serve as an international auxiliary language , a second language for everyone in the world, rather than to replace all existing languages in the world. Some Esperanto speakers still want this, but most just want to meet foreigners and learn about other countries and cultures. Today, thousands of people use it regularly to communicate with people all over the world. Esperanto has proven to be a good deal easier to learn as a second language than any national language (especially highly irregular and/or non-phonetic languages such as English French , and Chinese ). There is also evidence that studying Esperanto before studying any other second language (especially an

The Esperanto Alphabet.
The Esperanto Alphabet is very similar to the English alphabet with a couple of differences. You simply remove four letters (q, w, x, and y), and then add the six letters with the diacritical marks. These six 'special characters' are not easily displayed in 'standard' fonts for electronic information exchanges, such as by email, over the Worldwide Web or in Newsgroups, so they are usually typed as the special letter followed by another 'marking' character. When Esperanto was created, the suggestion was made to use the letter 'H', but many folks also use the letter 'X' or the carat (^) symbol. ( Example: D a c-with-a-hat j o = Dachjo, Dacxjo, or Dac^jo. )
Some Basic Esperanto Grammar
All of the letters have are always pronounced the same, including the vowels. There are no such things as 'hard' and 'soft' vowel sounds. Would you like to see a pronunciation guide
There is only one Definite Article, "LA".
For words of more than one syllable, the emphasis is always on the next to the last syllable.

    Esperanto La Internacia Lingvo
Esperanto is a language that was developed in 1887 by Ludwik Zamenhof with the specific intent of creating an international second language. In 1905, Zamenhof published his Fundamento de Esperanto , which lays down the basic principles of the language's structure and formation. Esperanto is probably the most successful of the artificial international languages. The number of Esperanto speakers is estimated at more than 2 million. The Universala Esperanto-Asocio (founded in 1908) has members in 83 countries, and there are 50 national Esperanto associations that use Esperanto. There is an annual World Esperanto Congress, and over 100 periodicals are published in the language. More than 30,000 books have been published in Esperanto. HOME Which Language? Once one has recognized the many advantages which widespread knowledge of a single language throughout the whole world would have ( for diplomacy, travel, commerce, science, law enforcement, etc. ), the question then naturally arises: which language should be selected for this purpose? Two main answers have been proposed: 1. Select one of the 'natural' languages already being widely spoken - e.g. English, French, Spanish, Russian. Select a language which has been specifically designed to be particularly well-suited for its role as an international language. The main characteristic of these languages is their ease of learning , which makes it possible for a beginner to acquire reasonable proficiency in their use after investing only a fraction of the time and effort that would be required to learn any 'natural' language. Indeed, after having had some exposure to the regularity, elegance, and precision of these planned languages, the ambiguities and irregularities of 'natural' languages begin to seem quite 'unnatural' - or at least unnecessary! Rather than further argue the relative advantages and disadvantages of natural vs. planned languages, I'd like to invite visitors to this page to investigate for themselves two of the proposed planned languages: Esperanto and Ido. A brief history of their development can be found at:
